The January 2026 Transfer Window
bluebruce replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Exactly. There has been plenty of time before the window opened for us to get in touch with clubs of prospective players and see if there is a realistic chance of signing them. Whether it's the scouts or other personnel, the point remains the same - we have wasted time on this one. Honestly, it just reeks of the usual 'we tried' policy of bidding for players we know we can't afford so that we look like we have ambition. Then spending a paltry amount. We see this every January and most summers, it's hardly our first rodeo. -

The likes of transfermarkt etc are not a remotely reliable show of value, if that's what you mean. A look through our own squad will show that. -

I dont understand how a price tag can be unrealistic. Teams arent obliged to put price tags on their player at a certain level. It depends on so many factors, Barnsley clearly dont need or want to sell, he has a long contract, hs is young so his value will go up and West Brom have a huge sell on clause. Obviously its subjective but if you had 2 of the exact same player at 2 different clubs, yet they were valued at different amounts. The one wanting more isnt setting it at an unrealistic amount. If Barnsley wanted 5x what we were prepared to pay, then he clearly wasnt a realistic target. I still am unconvinced as to why we wanted a winger when we dont use them anyway, but its irrelevant anyway as he wont be coming. -
I haven’t posted a whole lot over the years on here but coming across this thread has really hit something inside me. Hope, that’s all you need as a Football fan isn’t it? I was born in 1990, just too young to remember the title winning team properly but my word had some of the best times of my life watching Souness/Hughes era. We also had some times under Jack Walker/Graeme Souness where things didn’t go to plan, but you knew there was a plan behind the scenes, a direction, something to get behind, hope… Nobody is guaranteed Premier League football, no matter how much you spend or how well the club is ran, it’s Football…I don’t think we as a fan base feel entitled to it? I think that is what Rudy Gestede feels with his ‘it isn’t 1995 anymore’ type comments, we just want hope, and the club, its supporters, staff and players to be treated with some common decency. It’s exhausting but so hard to stay away/out of touch when it’s been a part of your life since you could remember. Some of the worst and most embarrassing days I’ve witnessed at Rovers in the last 15 years but somehow a week removed from a game, something inside me wants to watch and support MY team. I’d go so far as to saying their reign has affected my passion for Football. I gave up my season ticket after we had just scraped staying up the season they took over, you could see it all coming a mile off, it took them a matter of months to poison the club, and sadly we have lost a GENERATION of fans or potential fans because of this seemingly never ending nightmare. The neglect of Ewood Park and the infrastructure of the club for 15 years is symbolic of their tenure at the club. Please, just leave.

Probably an even sadder post than the OP. This chap bleeds blue and white, like we all do, but he's battled hard over many years to break the Venky's regime, at great personal and emotional cost according to his postings - and now even he's given up. There is cause for optimism here - however slim it might be. It's often said that it is darkest before the dawn and these grimmest of grim times might be the nadir. Something, somewhere, maybe soon, will cause Venky's to sell up and leave. We have to cling to that hope.

A really poor performance from the Under-21's tonight. Totally outplayed, outfought and overwhelmed by a Forest side that was very impressive on the night. Our back four were simply awful. So many errors in their own area, failing to pick up players, failing the clear the ball and then repeating those errors over and over again. Khan was at fault for the first but badly let down by his defence for the others. However, the midfield was ineffective despite the efforts of Garrett in the first half and Dunn in the second half. Up front, young Higgins tried hard but suffered with the physical side of the game and was taken off, presumably with injury, at half-time. Forest defenders give him a rough time after he made a very bright start. He's certainly not ready to go into the first team and I suspect needs to play more Under-18 football for the rest of this season. In truth, not one player came out of this game with any credit. So many elementary errors all over the pitch that Forest were quick to exploit. I suspect the Under-18's will be drafted in to play in tomorrows Under-21 fixture with Blackpool.

I thought I would add my two pence to this conversation as someone in the coalition and as a fan. I used to love football and get excited about watching Blackburn Rovers. I don't anymore. Every inch of love has been taken away by a club that desperately needs help. Owners who don't care and continue to be absent Senior management running the club, who do not have the capacity or understanding of what this club means to the community, fans, etc. More projects than the Two Ronnies 4 Candles Sketch I've started watching rugby to fill the void. For people who say that we're entitled. People who say we don't ever attend matches. The list could go on I'll make this simple. I don't want PL football. I want my club back. I want to feel something for Blackburn Rovers I want owners who care. Suhail Pasha and RAO Family Your time at this football club has to end. It's nothing but short of a disaster -

Remember the Adam Wharton quote, that nobody could have seen how good of a player he was. My take on that is that we have employees that cannot see how bad some of our players are. -

Can't agree with any of that. If the selling Club dont want to sell a particular player they can put whatever price tag they want on his head. It's not really up to you or me to decide if a price is unreasonable and if the interested Club dont want to pay it they dont get, unless they can reach a compromise. Now our scouts may not know exactly how much a Club wants for a player but I refuse to believe they haven't got a fairly good idea otherwise all the work they do would be completely pointless. And how long does it take us to ring up and find out what the asking price is anyway? Unearthing a player available for £5m when we only have £1m to spend isn't good scouting and having found out the asking price, we shouldn't have pursued it further by putting in a derisory offer, it just makes us look a joke. As for the more recent link - if any Club are willing to meet Barnsley's asking price they'll get him. I highly doubt it will be us so if it's not, that will be another dead end and waste of everyone's time. -

Nothing to see here i'd wager. The one and only chance anyone, billionaire Arab or local pie shop millionaire, have of getting past first base is to make direct contact with the head of the ownership. I'd suggest that is nigh on impossible unless you move in the same circles, due to the amount of buffers in place and people who'll deflect it in their own interests. Or of course maybe offer the middleman a nice fat juicy introduction fee..... -

So where does this leave us? If some sad souls don’t even know about the proposed boycott, we have just over a week to get it out there? None of the mates I used to go with go anymore. Empty stadium and one brave person to smuggle in a banner. 20,000+, to nothing, that’s what you’ve done, be proud, because none of us are? -

It hardly needs to be looked for. Alebiosu is a very good bit of recruitment for example. But we actually signed him because he was a realistic target within budget. No use finding players well out of our budget. -

Scouts will know exactly the ball park figures in regards to the cost of the players they are required to scout. If a club, agent or player makes bigger demands once the ball is rolling that's on them. -

On the market he likely is in reach, Cleary in every single market value I can find is under 1mill. Can scouts possibly have addition contacts with their ears to the ground yes maybe but again back to the main point which was whoever scouted this fella seems on initial viewings of him made a good call but valuations lye with the clubs not the market in which most scouts use -

Scouts aren't only supposed to look at players. They're supposed to have contacts, put out feelers. Have a general understanding of whether a player might be realistically in reach. Like you said 'that could possibly fall within their budget'. They don't really have a great sense of that if they've recommended someone who will cost 5 times what we can offer. I think the 28 year old striker one is fair enough to be surprised by, that's an outrageous fee to demand. But the young, promising Cleary was likely always out of reach. -

Going back to the chance missed by Doherty yesterday, I remember Leonard missing several of those in a fairly short space of time, either got caught or dragged his shot wide. -

How would scouts know a players final valuation that between the clubs in negotiations they identify players strengths weaknesses and profile the club might be looking for that could possibly fall within their budget th selling club slapping in unrealistic price tag on to a player isn’t the scouts issue or fault let’s take the Barnsley striker coming 29 this year never played above league one 18 months left on contract and he’s valued by his club at 5million? Not realistic nor matches what his real valuation on the open market would be -

The scouts are there to identify players we can potentially afford. We are nowhere near affording this one. Like Ricky said, we can all identify good players the club can't afford. That Adam Wharton looks alright. Messi, Haaland, Gyokeres, they should be able to fix our attacking woes. -

If this is the case and, as expected, Venkys don't even respond to the offer, the interested buyers need to get hold of the coalition and go public.
