The January 2026 Transfer Window

But still a pointless spend instead of the money going towards decent investment. 'Punts' have replaced proper investment in a 2 or 3 for the price of one kind of way. -

They brought in 2 last January, both on loan, both crap, one at an extortionate cost (for modern day Rovers) I have no doubt they will bring at least one striker in (we need 2), but I have little faith it will be of the quality required -

I'd be incredibly surprised if we brought in a striker, they command a higher fee than any other position and they've already outlayed on Andri this year. -

As expected, we don't look like we are close to signing anymore players before the Hull game as the manager wanted. We are pretty desperate for a couple of Strikers and wingbacks. Shipping out Gueye is step in the right direction but we really need to get these players in ASAP, even if they don't make the Hull game, they need to be in before Ipswich. -
I don't agree "he's trying to divide the fan base". The fan base is divided---that's a fact. That's why we are so ineffectual and Venkys don't feel any pressure to leave.

Honestly to me it just shows how far we've sunk when people are desperately scrambling to extol the virtues of Makhtar Gueye. He's a very poor footballer who wouldn't have gotten near our team, even under Venky's, before severe cost cutting meant we were reduced to shopping in the bargain bin permanently. I wish him luck and have no ill will towards him, but in terms of standards he's far below what I want for my club. -

Game management: 3/10 Team has struggled for years to 'see games out' from a winning position. Always susceptible to conceding a late goal. Feels like we panic at times and don't know how to slow the tempo down or do proper time wasting during set pieces. Hasn't really improved under Ismael either; late goals conceded vs Birmingham (home) and Wrexham (away) comes to mind. Man management: 4/10 Ismael doesn't exactly come across as a motivator. Throwing Gueye under the bus and publicly bashing him and Carter isn't really helpful for the team's morale. Standards need to bet set, yes, but it could've been handled better and preferably behind closed doors. Tactics: 4/10 Has a clear idea regarding type of player he wants but fails to incorporate that into a winning team. Switched formation early in the season from 4-2-3-1 to 5-3-2 for the Coventry game due to a number of poor results. Defence has stabilised somewhat since then but attacking-wise there's a lack of ideas and purpose. We struggle to defend set-pieces at times as well as scoring from them (throw-ins in final third included). Threat from transitions / counter-attacks is pretty much non-existent due to poor movement and athleticism up front. Our build-up from the back is poor as well as we struggle severely with beating first line of press and end up booting it long to one of the strikers (who can't keep hold of the ball anyway). Only bright side has been our threat on the right hand side when Alebiosu has been playing. End result is we try to keep ourselves in the matches for as long as possible but will need a bit of luck to win them. Summary: fail to see how the team will progress and climb the table under his tenure despite there being a lot of inconsistent sides in the Championship right now. -

And they weren't big financial losses. Dennis was, but that was Waggott trying to be smart, rather than the Director of Football doing his job. -

Is anyone actually sure what Ismael does want? We have the most thrown together group of players I've seen in my many years of supporting Rovers. For all the talk of projects, systems there is absolutely nothing in what we've bought thus far that resembles a semblance of a plan or identity. Unless of course we're just collecting 5'9 number 10's who play out wide. -

The bit that went away was the right role under the right gaffer. I think he could have run his arse off every game under Ismael and it still wouldn't work because he's the wrong size and mobility for what this guy wants. The constant offsides though were a joke and if the penny never dropped with him for that it's also no wonder the head coach gave up on him. -

I would argue that he even put the required effort in. Even before comments about not running in training, numerous times I have seen him (not just this season) not put in the required work rate. As you say, there is a lot of revisionism on here. He hasnt been hard done by, hes just not up to it and thankfully we wont have to see him in a Rovers shirt again. - Today

I have already addressed this and admitted it was a poor choice of words. However my next sentence addresses those who are not happy. This one sentence is being taken out of context It has no hidden meaning and does not call anyone complicit. It means if you are content you will attend obviously, if you are not then you have a decision to make. Join the boycott or not. No hidden digs at anyone.
