Especially at a young age, gallivanting around the country away from family may not be what they want. Yeah, watching him play at right back tells me he’s more suited to the short passing, harrying game of a central midfield player. When he got into good crossing positions he didn’t trust himself to put a good ball in. He’d only be a stop gap/emergency right back for me. As you say - like Travis is/was.
