Just thinking about the last few years. I know he was/is still young but I reckon Jan Paul van Hecke has something about him and is a bit of a throw back to the likes of Nelsen, Hendry. I reckon he's the sort that would take out his granny if it meant he got the last Werther's original.

'Killer' Keeley was a dirty so-and-so - saw him stupidly get sent off at Fulham in a match in which Bobby Moore and George Best were playing. But he wasn't hard. Ken Knighton always struck me as "hard" - mess with him and he'd boot you over the touchline

Im quite happy to take fees quoted by the Club at face value. What I can't be doing with is people who try to have it both ways ie. "We're showing ambition" when it's claimed we've spent £3m but when the player flops they say "Well it wouldn't really have been anything like £3m due to add ons".

We might well have gone up but to say we would probably still be a Premier club now is a bit of a stretch. That team was nowhere near the quality of several of the teams that have gone up and come straight back down in the last few years. And we can be fairly certain Venkys wouldn't have invested the funds required to stay up.

Yet again the desperation to buy cheap with cheap wages and pray they get a few goals so that value quickly increases is trumping the common sense approach. Invest in someone more proven and the returns will take car of themselves in the next few years, that's a proven method here. This lad must have good running stats is all i can say.

Agreed - though we have been doing this for a long time. We never got near to paying £5m for Gallagher, or £6m/£7m for BBD, as that would have required promotion / etc. The same way that our outbound transfers are add-on or clause heavy. And, for the record, I think Broughton had a strategy and it was clearly hamstrung by interference within the club. Szmodics, Hyam, Brittain, Tronstad are all significantly better than anything we've signed since. As someone else has already said: O'Brien and Undav arrive in that transfer window and we're probably still a Prem club now.
