speeeeeeedie Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Mods Is this a record thread for replies and views? I think we are way short of last season's transfer rumour/absolute b*ll**ks I think that is more than reasonable thread we had.

nicko Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Would being the Republic of Ireland's gaffer be a step up over Wigan? It would be another string to his bow. Jewell is still young and if he puts managing a country or even working abroad on his CV he could get the top six job he wants eventually. There's no doubt he wants to manage Liverpool at some stage and you would have a better chance of that if you had a success with the Irish in your background. I'm still not sure he will take it, but he has not dismissed it.
Claytons Left Boot Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 And I still say it is better to play and beat a rival than just talk about them. It kind of settles the argument. The argument was settled long ago - they haven't beaten us since 14 April 1979 Whilst I will always want them to be less successful than us (and they have been over the last 100 years or so, in fact, much less) it would, nevertheless be good to visit the Turf again and sample the atmosphere. I saw my first Derby at Ewood in 1970, a 2-0 Rovers win in a friendly and never missed a game against them up until the FA Cup away game a few years back when I was abroad. I have stood on the Longside at least 25 times whereas most of the folk on here will only have had two visits as an absolute maximum - you don't know what you have missed! If truth were known the atmosphere on the Longside was always better than it could ever be at Ewood largely due to the fact that both sets of fans were alongside. Unfortunately those days are long gone - days that started very early, massing on Blackburn Railway Station, drinking in Burnley, the walk to the ground, the tribal warfare and the inevitable victory. Go on then, bring it on.
RevidgeBlue Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Go on, admit it, it's better when you play them twice a season. Speak for yourself nicko, I would be far happier with us challenging for the top six in the Country and them scrapping for re-election to the League every year!. I think that proves "who's better". Seriously our so called "rivalry" is statistically a thing of the past. Since 1966 when we were originally relegated from the top flight I'd wager we've only been in the same division for about eight of those fourty one years. Originally they were infinitely better than us, now we're infinitely better than them and I hope that never changes. I've always enjoyed competing against and beating the big city clubs like United Liverpool City and Everton more anyway personally. Beating Burnley at the moment is like beating up that frail spotty kid with Joe 90 glasses in the playground.
RevidgeBlue Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Burnley will not appoint a new boss until after the weekend. Draw your own conclusions. Someone with international connections? Someone with mates in the press? Venables? Failing that: Stuart Pearce? Alex McLeish? Warm or cold?
thenodrog Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Someone with international connections? Someone with mates in the press? Venables? Failing that: Stuart Pearce? Alex McLeish? Warm or cold? How about the new Shanks and Paisley or Clough and Taylor.......... Step forward Gazza and Wrighty.
Presty On Tour Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 this could be complete rubbish but i'll say it anyway as imo, he fits the bill. I heard that nicky hoffs is a target in january? midfield player and a decent one at that. though he is luved by the feyernoord mob, he would love a chance to play in the prem. we also have ooijer and rigters who have dutch nationality if thats any help

Go on then, bring it on. A true derby is when both sets of fans equally reciprocate their antipathy for each other in equal measure: e.g. Celtic v Rangers; Arsenal v Spurs; Notts Forest v Derby County. It dosn't necessarily equate to the lowest geographical common denominator (e.g. Man U's rivalry with City is superseded by their antipathy toward Liverpool & vice versa Liverpool toward Everton). Some sad clubs are left floundering in the quest for a true rival (Leicester City; Middlesboro & Bolton). In that respect we should comfort ourselves that once our erstwhile & transient divisional rivalries have run their course (e.g. Sheff Wed (circa 1980-82), Man City (Circa 1986-1989); Man U (1992-1996), we will always have our dark 'alter-ego' lurking in some deep, dark forgotten valley east of the Pennines. 'Ave it...
CAPT KAYOS Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Someone with international connections? Someone with mates in the press? Venables? Failing that: Stuart Pearce? Alex McLeish? Warm or cold? or Steve Mclaren or should that be Malcolm Mclaren as he did walk out of the 'I'm a Celebrity' as he fancied another type of jungle
philipl Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Any substance in Reading bidding for Jason Brown?
Cocker Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Any substance in Reading bidding for Jason Brown? They still haven't offered Hannaman a new contract have they (which I find unbelievable) so they could be. Wouldn't blame Jason if he did go to get first team footy. After all, Brad has a few more years left in him yet.

Wouldn't blame Jason if he did go to get first team footy. After all, Brad has a few more years left in him yet. Maybe a swap deal. I don't think a lot of Hanneman as a keeper (there are worse, mind) but it'd be smart to have a Slayer fan on the bench.
nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Any substance in Reading bidding for Jason Brown? I've not heard it but it could be right. My only query would be whether Reading want him as a number one - because he has little Premier experience. If Hahnemann leaves I think they would go for someone with a better CV - and I don't see any point in Jason Brown swapping one reserve team for another. It's a strange one but I'm not writing it off as possible.
nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Someone with international connections? Someone with mates in the press? Venables? Failing that: Stuart Pearce? Alex McLeish? Warm or cold? No, somebody who has emerged late in the race and is a top young manager....
Cocker Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 No, somebody who has emerged late in the race and is a top young manager.... Ince?
EwoodGlory Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 They still haven't offered Hannaman a new contract have they Nicky Hammond said that he has an automatic 1 year extension built in to his current one, so they were not going to offer a new one because the club thought this was a fair deal. So he will still have a deal there for him next season
nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Nicky Hammond said that he has an automatic 1 year extension built in to his current one, so they were not going to offer a new one because the club thought this was a fair deal. So he will still have a deal there for him next season I think there is a one-year option in Hahnemann's contract, but he obviously wants a rise or a move. So there's every chance there is a get-out of some form. I still reckon Reading would be looking for a more experienced keeper if he moved - and there's no point swapping reserve teams unless Jason Brown wntas back to the London area.
rovers_rob Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 No, somebody who has emerged late in the race and is a top young manager.... Would it be worth putting a few quid on Grayson ?
nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Would it be worth putting a few quid on Grayson ? I would leave that just now. The new face seems to have caught their imagination. And he is not even in the betting...
rossyste Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 No, somebody who has emerged late in the race and is a top young manager.... roberto martinez (swansea )...........north west and international connections ??
nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I really can't name this guy, it is too sensitive right now. But all will hopefully become clear soon. He has never been linked and he won't be until he is confirmed and on his way. I think he is top drawer, but I am biased.

nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Collins? I don't think anyone would get the name...although I suppose I have just issued a challenge. When and if the time is right you will get the shout early. I just hope it comes off for the guy involved. And it's not John Collins. Final clue.
disgruntled Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Seeing as we are playing the guessing game: Chris Coleman, Craig Levein or Owen Coyle?
nicko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 By the way, Robbie Savage is hoping to make it back for the Fulham game. You can't knock his attitude. He is over the cartilage op and training, so it is possible. With Dunny banned and Reidy absent it could be timely to have him back.
