Sandiway Blue Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 When we got Ooijer, it said he signed a 2yr deal with an optition of a 3rd if he plays a certain amount of games, so i think hell be staying, it would be a shame to let him go with henchoz being too old and Zurab being only half decent. Ooijer is a class player when given a run in the team. I think he is ok at right back but he is limited with his lack of pace, and he does seem to be one of those players who needs to play half a dozen games or so to get up to speed. As a squad player i am not sure he is what Hughesy needs. Hughes has said for a while that he wants players who will push for a first team place all the time rather than players who are `part of the squad`,as he sees ooijer as a squad player,it would make sense to let him go at the end of the season.Especially if he gets a younger and better replacement.

Blueboy Downunder Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 players don't just come into a team and hit the ground running BB, or least most players don't. it is exactly the same as aaron mokoena...he proved, that given a a run of games in the side, he proved that he is an important part of our 1st team squad. i too think ooijer is a quality player and one we can't afford to simply can't afford to allow him to walk free (at least), given taht to replace him is gonna mean a young lad from the youth/reserve teams which is ok i guess cause it gives a lad a chance, or the next best thing is to spend a decent sum of money on a quality replacement - quality being the operative word and money that we are not gonna have because this takeover seems no closer to being formalised.
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 If you could see the silly grin on my face right now you would know who the next manager of Burnley is going to be. Fair play to derek guyler's spoon for the early stab - scared me half to death. Announcement imminent. I look forward to Premier League derbies between the clubs during the new man's reign...
Ricky Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Shame, I was really hoping for Peter Reid, I chucked a couple of quid on Owen Coyle to cover my bet anyway.
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Owen coyle Owen, Owen Coyle. Has a Burnley manager ever been serenaded on these boards before... Brilliant choice, but I'm biased. A real football man who will get them going big-time. I realise it will wind up a few, but I think they just made their best signing for years. As I said before it's a real rivalry when you play a team and not just taunt them. And I think he will get them up while he is there.
EwoodGlory Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Bring the Derby's on then, we have nothing to fear. I hope your not moving to the dark side Nicko, your an adopted Rover now
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Bring the Derby's on then, we have nothing to fear. I hope your not moving to the dark side Nicko, your an adopted Rover now I don't see any reason why you both can't be successful. As chuffed with this as anything I can remember... When was the last time Rovers and Burnley were both in the top flight?
philipl Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 The last time England won the World Cup... now there's a thought!
EwoodGlory Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 It would of been before my time. I think if they joined us in the Premiership, it would good for football in the area and hopefully create more interest. Maybe the rivalry will bring a few more fans back through the turnstiles.
Head Rover Heels Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Long time listener, first time caller. Completely agree - I'd love to see them back up here with us - I've not got a problem with them doing well, as long as they aren't doing as well as us. I've never really understood the "hope they fold" viewpoint - I'd much sooner they finish one place behind us, and lose to us in every cup final until the end of time.
modes98 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 That was all a bit disappointing. Any news on Brum manager? Jol has ruled himself out this morning. Is Eric Black still their choice?
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 That was all a bit disappointing. Any news on Brum manager? Jol has ruled himself out this morning. Is Eric Black still their choice? Eric Black has never been their choice. They tried for Redknapp and Jewell and apparently Jol, so Blackie has been overlooked. I don't know where they go now. But I think Eric will end up at Wigan.
thenodrog Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I look forward to Premier League derbies between the clubs during the new man's reign... Many a slip twixt cup and lip........ Rem Jack Hayward, George Reynolds, Lionel Pickering etc?
nicko Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Many a slip twixt cup and lip........ Rem Jack Hayward, George Reynolds, Lionel Pickering etc? I seem to recall Wolves being promoted in Jack Hayward's time.
DudeAbides Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Theres no way Coyle is gonna somehow transform the dingles into a prem outfit!!! isnt he at a scottish pub team ?
thenodrog Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Theres no way Coyle is gonna somehow transform the dingles into a prem outfit!!! isnt he at a scottish pub team ? Well he'll be the perfect choice for an English one then.
Dingle Basher Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Happy with this as at least Owen Coyles name fits in better than Peter Reids to no nay never.
LDRover Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Congrats to Nicko for picking out this live one well before the event, hope a few on here benefitted. Sadly I did not. There's a few who like to stick the boot in when a scoop goes haywire so it's only right that credit should be given where it's due. Funny how, amongst all the names quoted in the telewag even up to yesterday, that Coyle's name was absent.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 A song for matchdays about Burnely could be adopted using the "...go marching in" song... As in... "O-wen Coyle's team gets beat O-wen Coyle's team gets beat we will laugh at the Burnely O-wen Coyle's team gets beat!" Or something similar
USABlue Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I don't see any reason why you both can't be successful. As chuffed with this as anything I can remember... When was the last time Rovers and Burnley were both in the top flight? Sod off nicko, mods close this thread and ban him. He's a closet clarrot. I remember Levein WAS the new managerial whiz from Scotland, I wish this fella the same level of success. Only joking nicko but tread very very carefully I'll have my eye on you from here on out.

It's getting to where there are few of us left that actually DO understand. Bloody hell a few more years and we'll be asking if we can hold hands and sing cumbaya.
they_think_its_all_rover Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Apparently he's dismissed the reports he's going to Burnley... http://sport.scotsman.com/football.cfm?id=1827262007
