Eddie Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 How come everyone rate Diarra so highly? Haven't seen him play, so it's more a matter of being uninformed than questioning the valuation. I've seen him play quite a bit in France and then for the under 21 and national side and he is a very good player. For a player of his age and talent the valuation is low in my opinion. I was sad that we didn't make a move for him last summer, although we obviously wouldn't have stood a chance against Arsenal, but to let him slip by once more would be a real shame.

Torgeir Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 How come everyone rate Diarra so highly? Haven't seen him play, so it's more a matter of being uninformed than questioning the valuation. Because Diarra is Makelele ten years ago.
Mozzer Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 theres no way we would get diarra-we have no money.. its so important we get a takeover because players like cisse, sidwell and diarra-all realistic targets -we are missing out because we have no cash.. as for the injury to a player..hopefully it isnt bentley or cruz-its only them two who have been brilliant for the past month or so..
JAL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Diarra is far better than anything weve currently got would be a quality addition IF.
LeChuck Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 theres no way we would get diarra-we have no money.. This wouldn't be throwing money at the club though, the board should view it as an investment. I'm positive that £5.5 million paid now will be at least doubled once Diarra has played regular first team football for a few years. I can appreciate that board not wanting to spend that sort of money on a 28/29 year old, but Diarra is almost guaranteed to be a profitable signing for whoever he eventually signs for.
gumboots Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Every club has or could find some money. It's more a case of whether we want to put what we have got to the purchase of one player who costs more but potentially does that extra something for your team or whether you use what you have to finance several purchases who won't do anything special but will be good enough. Unless you're sure that a player will be really special (barring injuries of course which can't be planned for) you probably want several players if you're a team like Rovers.

they_think_its_all_rover Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Shearer ruled out? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ted/7180147.stm EDIT; By the sounds of SSN it's someone British and already at a club.
Mozzer Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 i know mark hughes is building something great here at blackburn, and would have to start all again at newcastle-but if he doesnt get funds at blackburn, and newcastle are willing to back him-he might get annoyed and go there.. nicko, in your opinion, do you expect blackburn to sign a player before the game against bolton??

It's exactly for the reason that this deal makes perfect sense that I don't expect it to happen.
gumboots Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Would have to make sense to the player too wouldn't it, and if, as rumoured elsewhere Villa are interested then he might well prefer that.

Almost is the key word here, I guess. You are probably right, Diarra will be a great midfielder for us if he signs: But if he breaks his leg or damages his cruciates or something the week after we sign him for 5,5 million, our investment suddenly doesn't look as profitable. There's no guarantees in football blah blah.. Would be a brilliant player for us though, he could probably play alongside any of our midfielders too, maybe Mokoena excepted. (which might just be a bonus after all!)
Damage Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Why do i feel like i'm in the school playground?
Guest Kamy100 Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 According to today's Lancashire Telepgraph the injured player is Tuguy. They also say that we are interested in Koumas and a deal could even be done before the game on Sunday.
nicko Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 According to today's Lancashire Telepgraph the injured player is Tuguy. That will teach me for keeping quiet...
EwoodGlory Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I like Koumas, he hasn't had the best of times at Wigan, but I think he needs a strong manager, someone like Sparky to keep on top of him at all times. When he's on form he can turn matches, but its keeping him that way. Nicko, please tell me that Newcaslte will not go for Sparky, it would be my worst nightmare

EwoodGlory Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Newcastle want Harry Redknapp. Phew! He better accept it. Any ideas yet to whether he would take up the job? would be a big upheaval for him, though i'm sure he would for a big payday.
den Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Koumas has been offered to you, I believe the chance was declined. Newcastle want Harry Redknapp. Good. Good.
bubblerrovers Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Koumas is pants, thank god we turned him down. If we start signing championship quality players we'll be there ourselves soon enough
roversmum Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Newcastle want Harry Redknapp. If that happens, I wonder who will go to Portsmouth........
Craigman Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Tony Adams is already there as the assistant, so I would assume he would be offered the job.
philipl Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I am just back from the physio dept at Euxton Hall hospital (private) where a number of wigan RUFC were being treated/put through their paces. I got chatting to them about Wigan and Dave Whelan at which it was suggested that Whelan is looking to offload the football side of business at the JJB ! During my physio session I was asked about my sporting allegiences at which my physio stated that brfc had the best facilities around and that there was a possibility of them opening a business similar to bwfc in that field, which grosses some serious money. Hope the op went well. We hired Botlon's fitness coach when Man U hired our's so that development would fit in. However, I have been surprised and disappointed that our players have not had that fitness edge this season they used to have. Maybe I am imagining things but conceding late braces at home to Villa and Coventry might mean more than we were chasing around at the other end. Back to the rumour stuff, I would agree that Diarra looks very specialand in this crazy market £5.5m is not outrageous. I have seen Sas play this season and he was best player on the park that night by some way. I was surprised to read he was 31 but I saw he lost 6 months to a substance ban early in his career so he must have been older when he first came to attention as he has not been around at the top that long. There was a winge about older players somewhere in this thread. Savage is gone, Roberts is going, Henchoz would be released to Fulham if the story is true- that leaves McCarthy, Tugay and Brad to be got rid of and I think we would have nobody over 30. A case of engage brain before typewriter. Finally, I know 'arry likes his money but I think Newcastle are going to have to open the vaults very wide and do a lot of talking to tempt him away from Pompey a second time. After BFS's experience, I'd stay at Pompey if I were 'arry but would expect Gaydamuck to be appropriately appreciative....
1864roverite Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Thanks Phil op cancelled due to over stretched and disease ridden wards both at Preston and South Ribble Hoping to get it done by the end of next week.
