jrabrfc Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Cheers Nicko, You've made this summer go a lot quicker, and you've certainly livened this board up over the past few months. To echo ad0102, thanks from the less prolific people on the board.

dave birch Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Nicko, It's been an interesting few weeks, even if I am sceptical about what was being put forward. If you ever make it down under, look me up, I'll buy you a beer or two. take it easy.
Mike Graham Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 good read bud, saved me buying a paper!! but honestly Nicko, thanks.
Manchester Blue Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Nicko I haven't posted much in this thread, merely enjoyed reading the snippets you have shared Rovers related and others. I foud it most amusing the adulation you received as i'm sure you did and I also found it funny you seemed to atract so much criticism. Sadly what you have to appreciate is there is some kind of unnofficial hierarchy on this board of certain people who posted for ever and a day and a feel it is their right to be the cntre of attention on the board, poster of the year awards to uphold don't you know. Clearly with the amount of interest you have generated that has put a few noses out of joint and this is the enod result. All very sad really as posters like Revidge, Theno and many others have shown it is perfectly possible to quiestion/criticise without getting personal or accusing of all manner of nonsense. What I find most bizarre of all is that two of the posters most critical of you are two of the most fervent supporters of John Williams and the current board. Surely rather than quizzing you about Dan Williams(no relation i'm sure ;-)) you would expect them to have 100% probably even 110% confidence in the current board not to be taken in by any two-bit conman. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever for Alan Nixon to be a pr plant for this takeover, the outcome of which will not be influenced in any way by a handful of people opinions from an internet forum. Instead the only outcome we as fans on here see is we no longer have a steady source of useful and interesting transfer news. Fair enough it was bound to stop at some point and im amazed he lasted as long as he did with some of the sniping. It just seems a shame that 99% of postser who clearly enjoyed this thread have to suffer because a couple of posters couldn't handle the attention he was getting and had to continue to try to knock him off his perch. Finally, as an aside has anyone noticed that Jim Mk2 has barely posted, if at all, since Mr Nixon started posting? I would have thought he would have been delighted to see a fellow hack posting on here or maybe like some he couldn't stand the thought that this man wrote mainly in red tops not the sacred 'quality' press. What I always find bizarre about that attitude is that many of these journos write across both, like Martin Samuel who writes for the Times and News of the World. The fact is the info is the same just given a different slant dependant on the paper so why some people view anything Henry Winter says as sacred but anything from the red tops os bile i'll never know. Oh well whatever, nevermind. We'll just have to go back to watching the usual stuff on the board instead, thanks for the posts Nicko and shame, but understandable, you have decided to bother posting again.
frosty Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Thanks for the info Nicko, it was good to have a person on here that knew what was going on.

MB, I've got to take issue with you on this point. It's plainly wrong, nothing less, and I've been posting here for "ever and a day". You take what people post as that, be it true or otherwise. My take on it is, when it happens, what they posted becomes truth, if it doesn't, well...

Dave that is your opinion and the way you take people posts but surely you must see you don't speak for , or represent everyone. You said Nicko should have been big enough to take the flak, when it was standard flak that he expected he did accept it. When it went beyond that to comments insinuating he was pushed from the Independent it is too far and quite frankly it is libellous.
bob fleming Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Thanks nicko. You're posts brightened up the rainy season. Perhaps you could reconsider? Have a few days off, you'll probably (hopefully) be drawn back in? Welcome to BRFCS.com. You'll Never Leave. If not - all the best - remember it's all about onions.

Indeed, what about those monthly reviews then
Alan75 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 thanks nicko, your information saved me a lot of searching for front page news section. Its good to get some insight on how the pros work. I think I'll stick to my day job and continue the site writing as a hobby. Feel free to pm me with any gossip thanks again.

Indeed I noticed that oddity too. I can only assume that Jim mk2 felt somewhat intimidated. A bit like me turning out for Real Madrid a couple of years ago and playing next to Zidane.

USABlue Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I was afraid this day would come. Thanks nicko, I hope you find your way back. Made this board really interesting again and surely a "grooby" should come your way.
thenodrog Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 btw 'nicko' I must say your snippets on this thread have been very entertaining and informative. It takes a certain quality to shut down the usual 'transfer topic'. However your sudden appearence at the time of the breaking 'Rovers for sale' story and your departure now that you appear to have been somewhat rumbled will leave most people wondering about your actual intentions in the first place, and especially when you as a scot are so enamoured with foreign 'moneymen' chucking funnymoney at our national sport in England. The last scot that we had in charge here seemed to have an unhealthy interest in filthy lucre too. For your own good I suggest that in future you stick to the Sports pages at the back of the popular press as the complex murky world and intrigue of the Business Section does not appear to suit your abilities. So ta ra 'nicko' this bit at least has been fun but dont let the door slap your arse on the way out.
EwoodGlory Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Nicko, dont leave just because of some moron on the Takeover thread, unfortunately these things happen on an internet forum. Most people on here are grateful of your work, and it has even made me buy a few copies of the people to read the full articles. If you still decide not to post in the future, then thanks for the information you have posted, and thanks for making the summer a bit more bearable without live football. All the best
Backroom trueblue Posted August 4, 2007 Backroom Posted August 4, 2007 Thanks Nicko Best wishes for the future
G Somerset Rover Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Cheers Nicko, this thread has made for an extremely entertaining read every day. Other friends were jealous that our forum had a guy who could break transfer news early and unfortunately some people didn't realise how lucky we were. All the best.
