modes98 Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 9. Ashley Young Watford somehow got nearly £10m out of Aston Villa for a winger who'd had one decent season in the Championship. You can count the goals he scored for Villa last season on one hand. Indeed! I'd place Bramble higher on that list. Good to see we have a decent showing on there.
Eddie Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 There wasn't much effort put into the making of that list.
Cocker Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 There wasn't much effort put into the making of that list. Nope, I have already seen about 5 of these so far this month.
Rovers_4_life Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 A bit harsh putting Darren Bent in that list before he's even kicked a ball for Spurs! I agree they have paid way over the odds for him but surely they have to be judged on performance in relation to price tag in order to be classed as a waste of money, if Bent helps spurs into the champs league this season im sure they would get a good return on their investment!
Lathund Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 There wasn't much effort put into the making of that list. Indeed. It's also a bit harsh to deem Ashley Young a flop of that magnitude already. I think they paid too much, but he's young and may still turn out to be a good signing for them.
Rovermatt Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 What a crap list. There have been far more dubious transfers than those listed (all of which are extremely recent, Kevin Davies aside).
b12_simon Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 What about Albert Luque? What a crap list. There have been far more dubious transfers than those listed (all of which are extremely recent, Kevin Davies aside). It's British players only (e.g. no Veron). I'm not saying the list's any good BTW
b12_simon Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Where's our 'Ciccio' in that list! Were he British he'd definitely make the top 10!
OJRovers Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Not the best list, there's a few missed off there I think: - Shaun W-P £21m - Hesky £5m There are a noticable lack of Spurs players too such as: - Chris Armstrong - £5m (?) - Dean Richards - £7m
brfc fan Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 What a crap list. Agree. Darren Bent is worth what he was bought for.
Mafioso Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Sutton for 10 million then 6 million. Cole for 8 million at his age was also not the best bit of buisness Bazza was quite a waste of money although the transfer free was right IMO Dailly at 5mill was brilliant buisness for Derby
Eddie Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 Cole was the main reason that we stayed up, he also played a rather large part in us winning the league cup. He won't go down as the greatest signing ever, but he was the right man at the right time and we probably could have done with hanging onto him for longer.

Mafioso Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 the last two post basically prove me right about cole, as i said ''at his age'' he was overpriced. had a player of his age and quality been playing for a different team the price could have easily been 3 million less. Hence Cole being over priced.

Hence Cole being over priced. Had we not just lost 3-0 at home to Sunderland before we signed Cole. I think Cole kept us up that season - and played a big part in the worthington cup success. Therefore - I reckon he probably repaid his transfer fee - making him a good deal.

Mafioso Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 didnt we finish 10th ?? Is that so close to being relegated? As i recall it was Jansen's performance that deserves credit, league and league cup top scorer for us. 8mill for a player of his age for one good season is over priced, i dont see there much discussion over it. Jon Stead is a player who kept us up
Neil Weaver Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 you're right about sunderland, didnt we get thrashed at home by derby around the same time ? Thrashed is a bit OTT old boy. 1-0 to a rather fortunate goal by Christie I seem to remember. But it was just a few days after, aye.

But it was just a few days after, aye. think that was the day we confirmed cole was signing, also. not a thrashing, but i remember the frustration. didnt we finish 10th ?? Is that so close to being relegated? we finished 10th, but only after going on a great run. back-to-back performances and losses (away to west ham 2-0) and fulham 3-0) had me worried.
Eddie Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 He was also a key part in the side that finished 6th the following season and it was his partnership with Stead that saved us from relegation later on (Stead scored more of the goals, but he couldn't have managed it without Cole).
