AggyBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I still keep watching what is happening with Huddleston at Spurs- not a regular starter which rather indicates there could be a question mark. All Ramos has said is there will be a big clear out but he hasn't finalised his list. He's still top of my wish list. At 21 he's very young for a central midfielder but if he continues to improve at the rate he has been, he'd be a great asset.

RevidgeBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 He's still top of my wish list. At 21 he's very young for a central midfielder but if he continues to improve at the rate he has been, he'd be a great asset. There was a Spurs fan on the radio recently saying that Huddlestone is too slow to be effective in the sense that he always needs a couple of seconds thinking or reaction time by which time it's too late. He was having a rant at the whole side basically so can't say if there's any truth in it.
RevidgeBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I think we should just take it as it's said - there will be money available for players. Agreed Den. It's absolutely bloomin' essential in any event and very encouraging news should it materialise.
philipl Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I would hope Koumas was only a product of there being no other players remotely available who were worth pursuing in the January window. Would be both surprised and disappointed if he is a target this summer.

Would be both surprised and disappointed if he is a target this summer. Will be surprised if he's not - Hughes has liked him for some time now.
RevidgeBlue Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Big spread in the LT today about nicko's news with Andy Neild's spin on Sparky's comments being that every member of the existing squad is on trial between now and May. Just what the doctor ordered imo.
philipl Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Sparky has had opportunity after opportunity to sign both Earnshaw and Koumas and has never done so- don't see why that should change now he might have the resources to look at better players. The ever reliable and well-informed Tribal Football (cough) reckon Huddleston and overseas players are the targets.
tony gale's mic Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I would definitely welcome Huddlestone at the club. There's no doubting his talent, he just needs a bit of guidance. Perfect signing for us, he's young and English too.
Oklahoma Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 After reading some posts made by some Rovers "supporters", I wonder how many people in Newcastle have changed town, how many spend their days drunk, how many started to support Pompey... They must have a desperate life.
nicko Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 "I think" and " I hope" don't sound that definite nicko, but then again I wasn't there to witness Sparky's body language when he said it. I think roversmum is probably spot on when she says it's probably a calculated attempt to gee up the team for the remainder of the season as well. The manager is only telling the truth. There HAS to be money and he is now confident that there IS. It's no attempt to hike up season ticket sales or get players at it. He's just answering a simple question with a simple answer and one that is different to the ones that went before. There is a terrible danger of reading too much into what people say at times...take the guy on face value. I do.
Oklahoma Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 I trust Hughes 100%. He has proven to be a top manager. With a little more financial support, I think he can take us to UEFA on a regular basis. And I don't think that Koumas is one of the targets now.
1864roverite Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 No, but he's had two lens's cut out and replaced, - without anaesthetic. How's that for hard? D'you lot know I was compared to Stalin this morning, by one of our much respected members? Must be the Leyland connection Den. some members may not realise that your affiliated to the local mafia

den Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 The LT article referred to earlier: Hughes vows to splash the cash.
John Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Without getting too excited or over playing it, I really think this is a fantastic piece of news. I have sensed Hughes has been down over the past couple of months. His comments have been not as positive and his body language has suggested he may not be entirely happy. However, knowing that he can shake things up in the summer has obviously pleased him. I have seen his press conference yesterday, and he even looked to have more of a spring in his step than previous weeks.
T4E Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 It is indeed good news. Now we need to work overtime to find a buyer for Bentley at £15m. With £25m to spend, Sparky could take us to the Champions League, no doubt in my mind at all.
1864roverite Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Being born and bred in Mill Hill and having had the unfortunate chance to live/work in Portsmouth, I thought I would add my two penneth on the comparison between Blackburn and Pompy. Portsmouth is a dirty city, Blackburn does not exactly distinguish itself with the cleanliness factor. Portsmouth has a relatively small cathedral compared to Blackburn, However Blackburn's has the luxury of being surrounded by "gardens". Porthsmouth has a ###### little hovel of a ground holding 19000 we have a spectacular newish stadia where the facilities outdo Pompy's by at least 200-1. Portsmouth has the luxury of being an inlet for immigrants wheras Blackburn already houses plenty. The unemployment numbers in Portsmouth outweigh easily the numbers in Blackburn. Pompy may have purchased high value players such as Diarra and Defoe whereas Rovers bargain hunt for the likes of Vogel, Samba, however, on paper, Pompy's figures will read just as exciting as Chelseas, a major operating deficit as their turnover is markedly below that of Rovers and we dont pay the masive wages that they quit clearly do. Portsmouth may have the Gunwharfe development, Blackburn has Queens Park,Witton Park, Corporation Park and the Ice Rink. The area that is known as North End is a rat infested hovel, similar in vein to Audley Range. Portsmouth has a massive Asian population, again, much of a likeness to Blackburn. Portsmouth has the Royal Navy as its mainstay, Blackburn has a booming College facility, sweatshops and barbara castle way. Pompy have an alleged criminal at the helm whereas Rovers bear the name of Sir Jack Walker as the bearer of the clubs fortunes. There is no comparison to be made with the shopping centres in either place, they are both poor. Pompy's nightlife used to be unique but is now as dead as the nightlife in Blackburn. Portsmouth red light area is much bigger than Blackburns. Portsmouth has more homosexual/gay bars than Blackburn. Now back to football matters..... Portsmouth have won faff all recently Rovers have. Portsmouth have a smaller crowd average than Rovers. Portsmouths bell end ringer makes less noise than Rovers drummer boys, and in any case he is much uglier than our boys. Portsmouths away travel is smaller in number than Rovers travelling fans - FACT. Pompy's pies are crap, Rovers (according to Ozz) are the dogs ######. Pompy's home records is deficient to ours in terms of home wins. Think that about sums it up for now.
philipl Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 It is indeed good news. Now we need to work overtime to find a buyer for Bentley at £15m. With £25m to spend, Sparky could take us to the Champions League, no doubt in my mind at all. Massively disagree with that comment. 1) you need CL-quality players to qualify for the CL. So selling the Rovers' one undoubted star CL-quality player fails on that basis 2) we sold Duff and weakened the remaining squad with the players brought in looking at it in retrospect. 3) wages screw the argument completely anyway. 4) I'd be looking for £20m ish for Bentley in the current market- getting £15m would require no overtime at all.
thenodrog Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 4) I'd be looking for £20m ish for Bentley in the current market- getting £15m would require no overtime at all. A couple of goals from free kicks for England aka the Newcastle one and you are there Philip.
Wing Wizard Windy Miller Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 And how is Spurs selling Lennon a good thing for rovers? Who do you think will be on Spurs’ shortlist as a replacement for Lennon? Sometimes I really wonder what planet you live on, it doesn’t take much to work out that if Spurs sell Lennon for big money they will come bidding big money for Bentley, he is also a Spurs fan and a London boy; he will be off in a shot. So to sum-up, selling Lennon is probably the worst thing that could happen. Bentley would walk into their starting XI, they would pay for a large pay rise and most importantly could afford his transfer fee. Me thinks that Huddlestone + Lennon +£5million in exchange for Senor Bentley would be an acceptable deal all round!
blue phil Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 An acceptable deal !!!??? It would be a stroke of genius to pull that off . Please disregard all this nonsense of £20 m for Bentley ....we've heard stupid figures like that banded about on this forum all too many times before ......usually from those who have only ever seen the players concerned in a highlights feature on the TV . Only the big clubs are going to pay that kind of money . I'm not sure they're ready to take that step at present on his current performances .

1864roverite Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 Nice to know you see these as ways to judge a town or city. Idiot. You complete and utter fool. If you read the previous posts you will see that it is a comparison between the two places. So, TG I am neither an idiot nor a fool, unlike you my friend, who it seems has taken the biscuit when it comes to calling names.
