Now we can put the Souness v Hughes arguments to bed. The facts speak for themselves; Souness (for all his faults) was a far more successful Rovers manager than Hughes was.

Souness was fortunate to win the league cup with a talented squad that he was lucky enough to inherit and then dismantled before jumping ship with the club heading rapidly for relegation. The club was alot weaker when he left than when he arrived.

Hughes inherited a poor squad full of dispirited players that he slowly transformed into a talented team that has finished in the top 10 for the past 3 seasons. Hughes leaves the club in a much stronger position that he found it.

End of story.

It may be time for us to move on and I can accept that but it's a bit like the end of any relationship; you need time to get over it. Have all the backroom staff gone with him or is there separate deals to be sorted there? Will they regret following him if it all goes wrong in a few months?
