gbax Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 "Allardyce and Ten Cate deffo, Ince, McClaren and Martinez probably, Boothroyd maybe" If this remains the shortlist, then it's very uninspiring. With a couple of names potentially a cock-up waiting to happen. Although, to be honest, I don't see BFS as one of those. Ten Cate, yes. On the old 'something to prove' line, maybe we should start rethinking McClaren? Won a trophy for Middlesbrough (a club I think we have close parellels to) & got to the UEFA Cup Final (a decent run in Europe wouldn't be bad!). He'll be desperate to put the England thing behind him, too. I can't wait for the bad press and publicity that would come with Mclown!!! Can you imagine the Darwen End full of umbrellas. We'd be the laughing stock of the prem. Maybe the team could come out to Rihana (cue the Viz jokes). Ten Cate, yes.

nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Ince out of Leicester running - according to all parties. He is still a Rovers runner obviously, but still no mention of an approach.
robborover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Foxes thwarted in bid for Ince - Is he waiting for a call?
BuckyRover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I am not annoyed by Chelsea. I think it's hilarious. The Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal fans are going crazy on the Football365 letters page. They love to accuse people of buying the title. Lot's of them making comparisons to cheating on football manager. When they dominated it's because they are great but when Chelsea do it, it's unfair. Times change. Money talks, and Chelsea have money. Anything that put's Liverpool/ManUtd out is good for me!
Mozzer Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 eidur gudjohnson to portsmouth??? if they get him they would have one hell of a squad..
alexanders Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Actually United spent the most money before last season. Excuse the article. Its in norwegian, but you get my point: The biggest buying clubs United 2nd place, Chelsea 28th.
dellinsert Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 "On the 13th of June 2008 Ten Cate signed a two-year deal with Greek giants Panathinaikos FC" From Wikipedia Tell me it isn't true...
Exiled_Rover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Chelsea do it differently to United and Arsenal. How's that?

Martin Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Foxes thwarted in bid for Ince - Is he waiting for a call? That must indicate he has some idea that he is in the running. Not my favourite; I don't think he can kick enough ass as a manager. On BFS, having originally backed Fat Sam I then read the mountains of posts on here in opposition and lost enthusiasm. However, in my own mind he or Mcclaren is fit the bill. The bottom line is I want someone who, above all else, wants to manage Blackburn Rovers. I don't want somebody with underlying motives. Shearer had them and was discarded.
Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 How's that? With United and Arsenal I always feel like they are building a team. They spend a lot of money to fill gaps, but there is still more of a plan there. With Chelsea I feel like they might go out tomorrow and buy 11 new players. I can't see that happening anywhere else.
Brownie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 "On the 13th of June 2008 Ten Cate signed a two-year deal with Greek giants Panathinaikos FC" From Wikipedia Tell me it isn't true... Calling Nicko !!
Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 It's not been reported by any news source, so I would be amazed if it were true.

Eddie Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Wow. I could really start to get angry with our board.
nicko Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Henk Ten Cate has NOT signed with Panathinaikos. He is in Barbados and returns this weekend. There may be an agent trying to push him to Greece, but the man himself wants to talk to Rovers.
BuckyRover Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Chelsea do it differently to United and Arsenal. Because they have to. I think Man Utd's excessive marketing machine is unfair. Not a level playing field for us. Just because Chelsea have a rich owner doesn't make it more or less fair.
broadsword Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 You can't just out and appoint a manager without a due process of selection. You have to go about it the right way. If he's gone to Panathaniakos, maybe he wasn't that up for managing us. Having said that, I'm incredibly disappointed.
