laughatthedingles Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Just to mention that we are in the Carling Cup draw tonight which I assume will be live on sky sports (anyone confirm?) after the final first round games. Might not be the greatest thing if we end up with a championship side who are four games into their season and much sharper and were struggling after our first two. On the other hand, a nice drubbing of Burnley would do everyone the world of good! For the record here are the teams in the draw so far: Blackburn Rovers Bolton Wanderers Brighton and Hove Albion Burnley Cardiff City Carlisle United Cheltenham Town Colchester United Crystal Palace Darlington Fulham Grimsby Town Huddersfield Town Hull City Ipswich Town Leeds United Leicester City Luton Town Manchester City Middlesborough Milton Keynes Dons Newcastle United Notts County Preston North End Southampton Stoke City Sunderland Swansea CIty Watford West Bromich Albion West Ham United Wigan Athletic Then four of the following: Coventry City v Aldershot Nottingham Forest v Morecombe Sheffield United v Port Vale Wycombe Wanderes v Birmingham City

Cocker Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I didnt realise Man City would be in it? I thought with them being in europe they would get a pass?
Head Rover Heels Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 They lucked out - It had to be a decision between Spurs and City as to who got the bye, as the number was odd thanks to the fair play place - I think it was decided on league position.

roverthemoon Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 The draw for the 2nd round of the Carling Cup will take place on Wednesday. You can watch the draw live on Sky Sports 2 after the conclusion of the Wycombe vs Birmingham game. The 2nd round matches will take place on the week commencing 25th August 2008.
MarkBRFC Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Didnt City finish above Spurs last season though?
T4E Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 The likelihood is Spurs got the nod on the basis that they actually did something worthy of qualifying for Europe. Citeh are a joke all over.
MarkBRFC Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 The likelihood is Spurs got the nod on the basis that they actually did something worthy of qualifying for Europe. I thought that to be honest.

RibbleValleyRover Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Haven't they also changed the format this year, no replays so the game has to be settled there and then? We have a pretty good record in this competition in recent years, hope we get a decent draw.
joey_big_nose Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 The likelihood is Spurs got the nod on the basis that they actually did something worthy of qualifying for Europe. Citeh are a joke all over. Well they are the Carling Cup champions so most deserving of a bye.

The league cup has always been decided on the night, until the semi final (eg Shef Wed, Man Utd).

The league cup has always been decided on the night, until the semi final (eg Shef Wed, Man Utd). Ah my mistake. I was sure on the radio the other night they said something has changed this year, must of been talking about something else. A run to the quarter finals, semis or final would be nice.
philipl Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 The seedings are: Manchester City Blackburn Rovers West Ham United Newcastle United Middlesbrough Wigan Athletic Sunderland Bolton Wanderers Fulham Reading Birmingham City (yet to play Wycombe Wanderers) Derby County West Brom Stoke City Hull City Bristol City Crystal Palace Watford Wolves Ipswich Town Sheffield United (yet to play Port Vale) Cardiff City Burnley QPR If one of Brum or Sheff u lose then PNE get seeded and Southampton get seeded if they both lose. So no dingles encounter this round.
Hughesy Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Why have the added seedings? Thats rubbish, I was hoping for Burnely at Home

Majiball Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I didnt realise Man City would be in it? I thought with them being in europe they would get a pass? City got in via the back door, Spurs by winning the cup, Villa also finished above them, so City miss out. http://www.mcfc.co.uk/default.sps?pagegid=...;newsid=6615182
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I'd rather not play Burnley as it stands, we are only just starting to gel and they are not playing Ince's style yet (which will take time). So they could end up fluking a win over us and we'd never hear the end of it.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Bumley are a seeded side so it wont be them.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I know, but we might get them next round (or whenever it's possible). Until we are sorted, I don't wanna risk our good record.
