S15 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 The best kind of story... One so useless the journo has to make up a complete lie for a half eye catching headline.
mellison24 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Pedersen tops most wanted over-rated list
Kelbo Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Pedersen tops most wanted over-rated list Cant believe Rio Ferdinand isnt on the list!! the most overated of them all
mellison24 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Cant believe Rio Ferdinand isnt on the list!! the most overated of them all Those were my thoughts initially. I mean they give a mention to Carrick underneath and he's awesome imo! If england wanted a DM, I'd opt for Carrick over Barry ANY day.
The Rover of Finland Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Jamie Carragher on Pool fans eyes is the most overrated!
JAL Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Morten Gamst Pedersen has been our most creative player whilst Dunny has been out. Cant believe how anyone can fail to see that, that Morten is the sole creative force to passing the ball forwards into threatening positions. Rovers simply aren't, love him or loathe him, in a position to lose MGP at this present time.

But I do agree we could ill afford to lose him at the moment.

We cannot afford to be duped.

Is he playing better cos he has been moved inside or is his motivation down to him being in the shop window? I guess we aren't close enough to be able to assess the situation with any accuracy but that over rated list must strengthen our hand in negotiations.
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 We cant afford better and on his day Peders is a decent player. Recently he has shown what he is capable of. Cynically you could say that its due to his contract coming to an end, or you could say that its because he's being played in a central position instead of out wide. I think the latter reason is more accurate personally.
JAL Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 ######. MGP is like the naughty kid on his best behaviour in the week before parents evening. We cannot afford to be duped. Cant afford to be duped ? were have your eyes been over the past month or so. We have a talentless footballer in Andrews and a quality left sided player in MGP. The only player who i'd say is duping everyone is PASCAL CHIMBONDA.
T4E Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 No way, no how has MGP even come close in the last 3 years to justifying the sort of wages it would take to keep him here. That's the only consideration. His recent form is too little too late. Unless of course he wants to take a huge paycut.

I guess we aren't close enough to be able to assess the situation with any accuracy but that over rated list must strengthen our hand in negotiations. Think for all the anti Allardyces out there, he, big Sam has recognised a new position for MGP that has allowed him to flourish. Its a bit like having a second wind, though the emergence of young Olsson along with the majority of central midfielders being injured or not good enough has helped massively. Or Morten could have thought he might aswell leave on a high and put some memorable performances in before the season ends.

Do we have anyone who can take free kicks, throw ins, corners, pass the ball accurately forward and head the ball better than MGP - I cant think of anyone better than MGP.
T4E Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 You obviously dont rate MGP importance to the team. Well spotted.
JAL Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Well spotted. Oh well, its a pity you cant spot the skills and vision that MGP brings to Blackburn Rovers.

He has only been doing that recently, for the previous 2 seasons his corners couldn't clear the first man, his crosses were terrible and his free-kicks were well off target. People harp on about this new position transforming him, how would playing in the centre suddenly improve his corner taking and crossing ability? Sorry i just don't buy it and i think its far more down to his contract status. Olsson has shown he can play on the left wing, sell Pedersen and bring in a proper central midfielder rather than using a makeshift one.

I wouldn't add throw ins to that list, his are ######. Really 'grinds my gears' when we try to launch it into the box like Stoke.

True, it does with me too. Your probably right along with everyone else but for me hes been our only creative spark which kind of shows up the others and their respective footballing qualities.

Your probably right along with everyone else but for me hes been our only creative spark which kind of shows up the others and their respective footballing qualities. In fairness to MGP he's rarely injured and when compared to Dunne, Reid and Grella represents real value for money...... ....... mind you we could say that about Julie too!
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Your probably right along with everyone else but for me hes been our only creative spark which kind of shows up the others and their respective footballing qualities. He is playing better than he has done in previous years, I don't think really anyone (including myself) can argue against that. What's debatable is the possible reasons behind this transformation. Some fans will think its just a kick up the arse, some will think its a new position and some will question his contract status as a possible factor. At the end of the day its pretty irrelevant what i think as the club clearly would like to keep him on as they have offered him a new deal. I think its a huge risk and could be a big mistake (especially if it turns out it was his contract status that was motivating him). The ball is in his court, either he signs the new deal or he walks away in the summer.

Some fans will think its just a kick up the arse, some will think its a new position and some will question his contract status as a possible factor. One possible reason Pedersen is looking more like his old self is that McCarthy has left the club. McCarthy used to spend 60 per cent of a match wandering offside and the other 40 per cent berating Pedersen. I watched McCarthy do it so many times that in the end I think Pedersen suffered a huge loss of confidence. A revitalised Pedersen is another reason to celebrate McCarthy leaving Ewood.
philipl Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Interesting point jim. I did notice MGP's throws were being hurled with more venom against Bolton which could be very good news if Samba learns how to direct headers goalwards Having won over Dunn and Hoillet into signing new deals, I hope Sam makes it a hattrick with Morten.

We too noticed on Sunday that there was more pace on Pedersen's throws. I've always been in the camp of, unless we can find better for less why sell him? Still am. If there's someone else lined up to do the same job and cost us less in wages and fees than we would get for him then , yes we should sell but that isn't likely in that anyone else coming in would have to be a total unknown in the premiership with all the risks that brings. The manager obviously rates him enough to want to keep him and many of you keep telling us we should trust his judgment.
