mark Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 It is July 9 and NOT a signing made. True, but 12 / 20 have made 0 or 1 signing so we're not alone in having a slow window. 0: Villa, Brum, B'pool, Rovers. 1: Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, L'pool, Newcastle, Stoke, Wham, Wigan. http://www.skysports.com/football/transfers/0,20367,11660,00.html It's not time to panic just yet...

Iceman Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 People need to remember it is not just 2 strikers we have. As well as Roberts and Kalinic we also have Rigters! We do need at least 1 new striker though, preferably 2 but I can't see that happening unless the takeover goes through some time soon.
modes98 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 People need to remember it is not just 2 strikers we have. As well as Roberts and Kalinic we also have Rigters! Yep that's exactly what people are saying we only have 2 strikers! Then some poor excuse for a footballer who we have been paying for the last few years.

That must be one crap table...Birmingham have signed Zigic...Wigan have signed two...Everton have signed two at least...so many inaccuracies. The point is Rovers had a chance to plan for signings since getting safe [late February?] and because of the off-field situation no-one has arrived. A chance missed.
Bobby G Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Whether we want to admit it or not, nicko is right. We had at least two months at the end of the season (and at worst 1 month) to begin summer transfer plans. Our "funds" situation was always clear too. We are close to entering "desperation transfer" period.

Picking up the Half past 4 girl on the way home after a night out and finding yourself regretting when you wake up to see what's sleeping next to you. And thats when you realize you should have bought the hot one a drink, even though she wanted an expensive one
Hughesy Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Forget who has made 1, 2 or 3 signings - how many have actually signed players that would realistically improve our starting 11, and that we could have possibly made a bid for?!?
Bobby G Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Its a moot point Hughesy. Its foolish to say that not a single player would have been available till now, on a free, or otherwise that couldnt have improved our team (from anywhere around the world).

Yes but we have no space on the wage budget....until we shift people (except Reids space) then we have no room to be signing the freebies who usually want 40k+. Id rather we wait patiently, rather than act like fools & then in 12 months need to sell Samba to balance the books!
T4E Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Yes but we have no space on the wage budget....until we shift people (except Reids space) then we have no room to be signing the freebies who usually want 40k+. Did you go to the toilet at work and leave your computer unlocked??
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Yes but we have no space on the wage budget....until we shift people (except Reids space) then we have no room to be signing And yet we gave that donkey Pedersen a brand spanking new 4 year deal... Its pretty obvious what will happen. The takeover interest will ultimately end leaving us virtually no time or money to bring anyone in. Leaving us once again with a heavy reliance on the likes of Brum, Sunderland, Newcastle, Wolves and the rest spending their superior budgets on dross and at the same time praying that we don't have an injury plagued season.
Silencio Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 That actually makes a lot of sense. Did you go to the toilet at work and leave your computer unlocked?? HA HA HA!!!
Fife Rover Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Yes but the barcodes are the best fans in the world and should be close to winning the league next season. Like the geordies, dont let facts get in the way. Gosling hasnt come through the ranks as many expected a couple of years ago, is now on massive wages, so not a lot lost for me. Someone in an earlier post stated that he had agreed verbally on £16k a week with Everton; hardly massive wages by the obscene standards of the EPL these days. If it IS correct then surely it should not have been beyond our means to compete with the likes of the barcodes.

Id rather we wait patiently, rather than act like fools & then in 12 months need to sell Samba to balance the books! and in 12 months time, we could be out of the PL and facing Burnley again There is no way, we can go into the season with only Jason "who's goal is it anyway" Roberts, and Niko Kalinic. However, if that is what Sam is forced to do, then i can see Hoilett and Rigters playing a bit more as 3rd and 4th choice strikers.

Almost correct Fife, Everton allegedly offered 16k a week, which again allegedly he turned down.
Iceman Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Iceman2England[/b]' date='12 July 2010 - 12:00 PM' timestamp='1278936042' post='925315'] , you are starting the campaign early this season mate?
47er Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Almost correct Fife, Everton allegedly offered 16k a week, which again allegedly he turned down. Gone to Newc according to today's Daily Mirror ------5.5M over 4 years is the deal.
budha Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Gone to Newc according to today's Daily Mirror ------5.5M over 4 years is the deal. So that's about £26k/w. Free agency gives you 50% extra
Bobby G Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 A huge pay off for someone who hasnt played regular professional football yet. And you wonder why there is a problem with football with English players...
Hughesy Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 That actually makes a lot of sense. Did you go to the toilet at work and leave your computer unlocked?? Cheap shot.... and in 12 months time, we could be out of the PL and facing Burnley again There is no way, we can go into the season with only Jason "who's goal is it anyway" Roberts, and Niko Kalinic. Icers we finished 10th with those players - why cant we do it again?
67splitscreen Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So that's about £26k/w. Free agency gives you 50% extra Bloody hell!, our Keef won't be on that.
Mr. E Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 And yet we gave that donkey Pedersen a brand spanking new 4 year deal... Yep. And I refuse to believe this couldn't have been avoided. Why not start the talks after we completed our summer signings? At least spend the amount of money JW said we have, which is a bit more than previous seasons.
Guest roverspogges Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 We should treat this window like any other and ignore the takeover stuff. It seems a better idea to work within our existing budget for next season rather than put everything off. And if it does end up going through with enough time left then we can get some targets we may have been unable to get through lack of funds. What we can't do is faff about and end up with benjani etc.
