Josh Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I must have had too many pints before the game because I thought he did ok when he came on, kept chasing balls and running into space, definetly didn't look lazy

Eddie Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I thought he did ok and his one real attempt on goal had the look of someone who knows how to finish. It was by no means easy and he did well to get off a decent effort.
JAL Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Goodwillie on first viewing looked every bit of a lower league player. Time will tell though.
chris Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 so is that why Kean compared him to Rooney because he is fat. At the moment I hope he turns out to be as good as Miller and maybe an impact sub, anything else is a bonus at 2 million thats a very low fee, I am really not expecting him to be the next Rooney.
John Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Charlie Nicholas on Sky said from what he had seen of Goodwillie this season in Scotland, he would have to spend a couple of weeks working on his fitness,
Tooogs Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I thought he looked really good. Strange isn't it how peoples views differ. He worked really hard for the ball on the right and won us a corner. He made the right runs. The last thing I want is another donkey like Roberts chasing thin air. A top quality striker saves their energy for those instinctive bursts of pace to take advantage of mistakes and ...... i can't even be arsed finishing this post off. You know what I mean.

That was the bit where he defied gravity as he managed to keep his feet despite being in a slow motion fall for the most of the run. Definitely got the bounce of the ball - something we haven't had for a long time. Don't get me wrong, I think he's got that quality that a good goal scorer needs - the eye for goal. Let's hope I haven't just put the kiss of death on him. But he does need to work on his fitness. EDIT: important edit!
Backroom Tom Posted August 13, 2011 Backroom Posted August 13, 2011 Goodwillie on first viewing looked every bit of a lower league player. Time will tell though. Not quite sure how you can say that on his showing today, rarely lost the ball and had one great effort just wide, worked his socks off and put in 3 or so tackles chasing down the line to win us a corner. Decent showing from him I thought.
ABBEY Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 Fat? Really? We all commented on him today, dunny looks anorexic next to him! Bet I'm fitter than him.
roverandout Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 i thought goodwillie was ok today, some good touches, ran past a couple of players, did more than roberts did, when he came on, than roberts for the whole 90 minutes (bar the goal) all roberts does is argue with the ref. Is that really me complimenting a rovers player?
sparkspakespoke Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 We all commented on him today, dunny looks anorexic next to him! Bet I'm fitter than him. Lets not go over the top! Any chance of you growing that gotee back mate? I think we're going to need it!

Is that really me complimenting a rovers player? You feeling OK mate? When I saw you'd posted here I expected the worst. The lad did Ok for his debut, Hoilett was off form so not much service came into the strikers bar a few brilliant Pedersen crosses early on.

roverandout Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 strangley tom, after today's perfromance, no, but i will always give credit where credits due and goodwillie was alright today, one of few players i can say that about.
Exiled_Rover Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 I find it ironic that fans are saying a professional athlete is fat.
Backroom Tom Posted August 13, 2011 Backroom Posted August 13, 2011 I wouldn't say he's fat but he is on the chunkier side one way or another http://lockerz.com/s/126862130
Stuart Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 He reminded me yesterday of a stocky Paul Gallagher.

I think the reference to Rooney is because of how he goes looking for the ball all across the front line and a bit deeper into the pitch. A case of looking for the ball all th time and not just waiting for it to come to him, a fair point in my eyes based on the 25 mins we saw of him
philipl Posted August 14, 2011 Author Posted August 14, 2011 I got a lot of flak when I posted what I had heard of his fitness assessment.
Silencio Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 I thought he did ok yesterday, the shot with his back to goal was well done and he made decent runs, could do with some fitness work I think. What we really need is a striker who the ball will stick to like it used to do with Sutton. If we are going to have Formica, Hoillet and Rochina playing then it's essential they have someone to play off. Roberts started ok yesterday but as usual his touch went to ######...
Stuart Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 True that Bish. I thought Roberts looked a different player first half, lively and trying tom win the ball. Second half he went back to bending over trying to win free kicks, and moaning at the ref.
Speedie Dived Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Goodwillie is clearly not fit, needs to take the chance he missed
Amo Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Goodwillie is clearly not fit, needs to take the chance he missed Think it's a bit late now.
