47er Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 It's just a reasonable assumption that if Rhodes was sold and the money reinvested into the team then we would be a better team. Always presumed that's what it was all about. I love how the ex manager was given a 40 goal strike force and gets zero credit for creating it. Goals aside, which football is not all about, do you think Rhodes is a good footballer? Rhodes was signed when Kean was manager (though Kean was adamantly against the signing apparently LOL) and Bowyer added Gestede. Gestede was a very good signing and Bowyer deserved credit for that but to go on and say he "created" a 40 goal strike force is a bit rich for me.

Mani Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Play the ball into Rhodes feet and he lays it off perfectly well. I think he's a very good footballer. Why is it a reasonable assumption that if Rhodes was sold the team would improve? GB came up with Brown, Varney and DJ Campbell prior to us going into embargo. "Play the ball into Rhodes feet and he lays it off perfectly well. I think he's a very good footballer" Amazing how polar opposite opinions can be. IMO Rhodes is arguably the worst footballer in the Championship (bar none) but oppositely the best natural finisher (bar none) He's no pace, no strength, an embarrassing first touch for a professional even in league 1. I genuinely think he has to concentrate like hell to complete a 5-10yrd pass BUT if I had to put my mortgage on how many times a player would score in 10 chances, aside from Lewandowski, I'd prob choose Rhodes. Any more transfer news from 11!o'clockers? Rhodes was signed when Kean was manager (though Kean was adamantly against the signing apparently LOL) and Bowyer added Gestede. Gestede was a very good signing and Bowyer deserved credit for that but to go on and say he "created" a 40 goal strike force is a bit rich for me. Gaz 100% put that strike force together and subsequently indulged them at times to the detriment of the team. If he didn't then who did? We can't on one hand blame him for his failures and then deprive of the FACT that he put those two players together!
Ribble Rover Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Rhodes was signed when Kean was manager (though Kean was adamantly against the signing apparently LOL) . Maybe he thought he'd spend the money on a couple of quality midfielders. Unless we knew Keans alternative then you can't LOL. Although JR has scored goals, we're worse off as a team. Away from home he's just not a 1 up front chaser/worker, and we need to be able to play that way in some games. Undroppable too which doesn't help.
Iceman Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Guess you didn't see Aaron Lennon's goal today Iceman? Anyway, as for the potential incomings above- Pilkington would be absolutely fine, the other two, absolutely not. I have not seen it, but that's not what I meant. I was referring to Lennon being accused of being quick, but with no end product, as we were/are discussing that potential player from Stoke.

Shebby Singh negotiated Rhodes. If I told you who advised him to buy Rhodes you may be very surprised!

Probably the most accurate description and assessment of Rhodes I've seen on this MB.

Mani Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Go for it Mani..... I know he won't be bothered, it's been discussed before. The person who advised SS to buy Rhodes post Bests injury was Glen Mullan. There was no scouting infrastructure and Singh didn't even know who Rhodes was if I remember correctly.
neophox Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 PL, do your best to get Patrick Bamford and Lewis Grabban in to partner Rhodes. Goals will come. Or why not Connor Wickham? As a midfelder and playing over 500 games in scottish league PL must know what attributes Rovers need in midfeld surely?

I agree but today's 'Warrior' comments appear to lean away from the likes of Bamford, Grabban and my personal choice which would be Gayle. I'm positive that he'll know what he needs. Whether he has the funds and / or whether that player is available is another thing entirely.
Pedro Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Shebby Singh negotiated Rhodes. If I told you who advised him to buy Rhodes you may be very surprised! Was it JAL? Lambert's comments http://m.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/14179292.Paul_Lambert__Blackburn_Rovers_need_a__street_fighter__up_front/ What's that odd looking Brazilian up to these days - Blanca, was it?

Looking at Lambert's comments about the type of striker we are looking to bring in none of Bamford, Gayle and Grabban fit that type of player
Pedro Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Firstly, Wickham and Gayle are both injured atm. Looking at Lambert's comments about the type of striker we are looking to bring in none of Bamford, Gayle and Grabban fit that type of player I've said it before, they need a modern day Jason Roberts. I thought Koita might be a stop gap for that role but he just isn't. We are a soft touch up top and don't ask any questions in or around the box. We need a battering ram who can shield a ball because our midfielders are pegged back 10-15yards because we have nobody to hold the ball for 5 seconds and opposition's defences are having a holiday.
G Somerset Rover Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Wickham is playing regularly for Palace when not injured. Some people live in dreamland.
Speedie Dived Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Lambert's comments http://m.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/14179292.Paul_Lambert__Blackburn_Rovers_need_a__street_fighter__up_front/ His comments about getting up the pitch are telling. Basically what a few have been saying on here for a while.
Pedro Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 An interesting statistic (that is probably wrong!) Sprung into my mind this morning. Rhodes and Gestede apart, in the league, who is our highest scoring centre forward of the last few years?

Athlete Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 The interesting bit in the article in the LT is about money and falling straight back into FFP.. The owners did the minimum share option required to get us out of FFP wonder if PL knew that after a promise of the club being out of FFP that we'd still be unable to spend
Pedro Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 YakubuIt would be but after he left sorry.2013 onwards.

There was no scouting infrastructure and Singh didn't even know who Rhodes was if I remember correctly. I recall reading that previously and feeling disgusted that somehow our club had stooped so low that a supporter advised the club to spend £8m on a player. It is almost unbelievable.
