So, what is going on with Pickering? I felt he was held in reasonably decent regard heading into this season, and although he has competition in his natural position with Ribeiro (who himself has only played 10 minutes in the last 6 matches) and De Neve and now Hedges in this formation, he has shown in the past that he can do a decent job as a LCB in a back three in particular. Yet for some reason Hedges was preferred there.

He hasn't played at all for 8 games since playing the full 90 mins in the Charlton embarassment. I wasn't able to watch that, and tbh I've missed loads of games this calendar year as my Saturdays have been very busy, but I feel like by the end of the season we were in broad agreement that he and Ribeiro meant we were covered at LB really. Pickering seems massively out of favour though, and Ribeiro is struggling to get in too, whilst De Neve is hardly Owen Beck.

I was most stunned he didn't even get a look in as an emergency LCB when he has shown before that he can do it and we are so short we are recalling inadequate CBs from Chorley we had only just extended the loan of. What am I missing?

Believed to be on a basic of £15k per week so being positioned towards the exit door. It's gone on for years where players are not selected to encourage them to move.

Doesn't encourage anyone to buy them though, especially if their wage is quite high. It would make infinitely more sense to play them, have them do well, then sell to the first semi-reasonable bid, if that was the strategy. Like has happened with a bunch of our other players we weren't willing to sign to new deals (Hyam, Travis, Brittain etc). Not sure I buy that it's this.

This does assume competency and common sense though, which may not be in especially high supply at Ewood these days.

Ordinarily this would be a very valid response, as we sure are a shambles, but we have already demonstrated what our approach to these players is. It would be weird even for us if we were to do that with all the others, then just with Pickering for some reason we choose to devalue the product instead.

I'm pretty sure he is out of favour with the manager, whether it's for his playing style/ability or something sort of falling out.

I also feel as though they've reverted to that model, just a division below. Will no doubt have the same outcome as before.

Crowbarred out the previous first team management to replace them with cheap nobodies who will just do as they're told. 

Offload all the previous squad to replace them with cheap nobodies from overseas. 

Any players on a half decent wage still remaining are frozen out.

Signed from Crewe on a relative low wage I'm guessing and only had one new contract since.

Yep, he was one of Brougtons last flurry of re-signings along with Adam Wharton & Szmodics, which whilst I agree he wouldn't be on £15K/week, this was before the taps where turned off fully so he may well be around the top of the current pay scale (similar story to Pears in that he is probably on about what he is worth by Championship standards, but by Rovers standards, is probably towards the top of our earners)

On line search of Harry Pickering wage produced that figure whether it is correct or not is open to debate.

Ismael cited the size and pace of Derby as the issue and he felt Hedges would be better at coping than either Riberio or Pickering.

And tbh, while we were well beaten on Saturday in other areas,  Hedges seemed to handle BBD and his general defensive role well enough. I dont think Pickering or Riberio playing instead would have made much difference.

Agree it must be very depressing for Pickering and Riberio. Ismael is a very physicality focussed managed, and I think he is not a fan of those two.

Those sites are pure guesswork and can be edited as easily as wikipedia.  You would genuinely be better off looking at the Football manager games for estimates

True . However with Hickman rumoured to be on £20k per week it's not beyond the realms of possibilities bearing in mind the quality of the other two mentioned previously when Broughton upgraded contracts.

I can report that an old school friend knows the family. I asked what was happening with Pixie as he is known . Had it confirmed that their is substance in the opinion that he is being moved towards the exit due to his wage being above the new ceiling.

I wouldnt actually be that bothered if Pickering left, I don't rate him at all defensively.  Do we need him AND Ribeiro?

That said I would never underestimate Gestede's ability to bring in someone even worse
