Weimann would be no great loss imo but failing to secure Batth would be a major blow no matter what some are saying about his age. If we were trying to scrimp about on these two to save money to bring in more expensive signings as well then that would be fine but I think we can pretty much guarantee that won't be the case. Derby came in and took our manager. What hope do we have of stopping a player going there? 2 Quote

He was a rock for us for most of last season, and deserves another year. Making out like he is no great loss, not important or that it is wise to get shut just because he's 35 is in my opinion foolish. When you are working with our pitiful budget going for tried and tested in their 30s is important and sometimes the best way to recruit the experience needed as Eustace recognises. He was arguably our player of the season. 7 Quote

London blue Posted yesterday at 18:23 Posted yesterday at 18:23 It's not on me to prove you right. For what it's worth, I was ambivalent towards both signings but if Batth falls through our fingers it's another failure. 3 Quote

I like Batth but if we can get this French lad across the line then, for me, it's a good start to the window...At least we know our recruitment team are being slightly adventurous. But we need to remember why we were desperate for a Danny Batth in the first place. Ideally we'd keep him AND get this lad in but people thinking it's a good idea to lose one and get the other i don't think are looking at the bigger picture. The 'project' line is being swallowed again a bit too much for my liking. 3 Quote
roversfan99 Posted yesterday at 18:25 Posted yesterday at 18:25 The idea of us discarding Batth for a younger model only works if we hadnt offered Batth a new deal in the first place. He will undoubtedly be a huge loss. I think we will also need (and probably not get) 4 attacking players. Up front we have Ohashi who is a decent Championship player and Gueye who doesnt really fit in and more often than not is more of a liability than an asset. We need a striker. We will need someone to compete with Cantwell and obviously out wide we need at least 2. Kargbo looks very raw, Hedges cant attack and thats all we have. 4 Quote

And yet again it's 2 of last seasons best players going and the back up player most likely to score. So the replacements brought in for little or no money will have big holes to fill. 2 Quote
simongarnerisgod Posted yesterday at 18:37 Posted yesterday at 18:37 when does the transfer window open???? Quote

Technically 1st June, (for 9 days) but seeing as it is effectively a registration window, not a transfer window, and we do not have any games to register players for, does it matter? Its not like teams cannot sign players anyway or announce signings  Edited yesterday at 19:02 by KentExile Quote

Shows the reality of what's happening here. The reality nowadays is that we're probably more likely to sign a better player on a free, if the recruitment department does its job properly. It's the reason why Gestede makes it clear that wages are part of the transfer budget. The power, as we're finding out with Dolan, is with the player. Gallagher could have sat it out for another 12 months and made more money, i'd like to think he was thinking of the club when he went for a fee.   Quote
roversfan99 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I think that account is full of shit but how does anyone know how class or otherwise a Volendam winger is? 1 Quote

We don't need a transfer ombudsman to provide 'facts' on a regular basis. As for your other two points, great. Then stop undermining them by defending the club (whether you intend to or not) over how much has been spent and who has been signed. They have totally failed us when it has come to transfer dealings. Not only in terms of quality of signings, but, more improtantly, in terms of amount invested. Now please, for the love of God, stop defending that in this thread. No one wants it. No one needs to know it. It doesn't need to be mentioned again. The club must IMPROVE.  He can't be bargained with, he can't be reasoned with and he absolutely will not stop. 7 Quote

He gives you a plan B and a player who could hold the ball up and scored decent return in his first season. Plus both will learn from this past season and hopefully be better for it 1 Quote

Saw him play this season for FC Volendam v Helmond Sport whilst on a stag do in Amsterdam. Not sure if he can step up to the championship but has got quite a few assists for Volendam. Big fan of their striker Henk Veermen, 6’7 tap in merchant - only issue is he’s 34 🤣 Quote

Was absolutely horrific for half a season, then had maybe a month where he was good and got most of his very limited goal return, then dropped back off and looked poor again. 10 minutes ago, chaddyrovers said: Is Ohashi only decent championship player? Why doesn't Gueye not fit in anymore? Good value signing, nothing special. Gueye is a big lump who we have to totally change our style to get anything out of. And when he was coming on as a sub which would make him a plan B towards the end of the season, his body language was really poor and he may aswell have not come on. If 6 is a decent return for a striker then my standards must be too high. 3 Quote

It was only 2 years ago he was voted Sunderland's play of the year and they couldn't get rid of him fast enough...only for Norwich to come it and get a whopping 16 appearances. I think we were lucky to get from him what we did this past year. A one year deal, sure but anything longer than that. When he went to Norwich we thought Sunderland was going to buy him out and just let him sign for us for nothing. Point being is was very good for us, deserves an contact but is also replaceable and not a long term solution....but this club doesn't do long term solutions, only stick their finger in the current hole in the damn sort of shite.  1 Quote
