The 12 year old south African kid

Seems odd we can get a decentish fee for a 12 year old kid but only minimal compensation for a 17 year old who's been through the Academy.

Our net spend is in the green by my calculations, or at least breaking even. Obviously we don't know the undisclosed fee's but you can make a guesstimation.Β

Sales:

JRC: 750-1m

Kid to Chelsea- 1m

Dolan- 270k

Sales = 2.27m

Β

Buys:

De Neve: 300k (maybe less)

Mcgloughlin 500k

Alebiousu 500k (maybe less)

Tavares Probably 750k (2 million is absolute bullshit)

Β

Between 2 & 2.25m

Β

Give or take the sales and buys tally and correlate to a spend what you bring in plan.Β

Β

So in my opinion, we've spent absolutely fuck all so far, depends on how gullible you are about the Tavares fee.Β

Β

And let's not forget, there are still players likely or who could possibly leave, Buckley, Brittain, Trav, Tronstad.Β

Β

I guarantee, we'll be in the green by the end of the transfer window.Β

Not sure if it’s been payed up yet but could add Finneran compo and Talalovic sell on clause to funds brought inΒ

Wherever that is due, it will be at most Β£100K up front, the vast majority will be future fees, add ons, sell ons etc

Seen a picture in another group of what looks like Brittain heading home early from Spain. Rumours of Rudy left similar time as well. Is he on the move or is he extending his contract. I know some players travel back separately after games but after a tour I’m not so sure

Amended my initial post, I was referring purely to Finnerans coimpo

You are right on Telalovic, about Β£300K apparently

You've said this before but the MB is open for all to comment on any post. I've made a single mild comment essentially hoping you won't continue to drag it down as you have been.Β

If dragging it down is challenging another posters views then I think everybody is doing it one way or another so again please just scroll on past.Β

It's nothing to a club like Chelsea. Sure I heard the other day they've spent something like 2 billion in the last few years!. If they signed 20 kids like this it would still be a drop in the ocean, and if one turns into a superstar it's an absolute bargain.

aye and the rest that don`t meet the grade are discarded like an empty pizza box, thereΒ  should have some after care for those that don`t make it,get them learning a trade or get them a coaching badge,i know a lot of the young players establish themselves in the lower leagues but there are always a lot that just drift out of the game and don`t have anything they can turn to

How can he be "clearly better" than he showed last season?

He's probably exactly as good as he showed last season.

I.e. not very.

I suppose we'll find out.Β

I think if Montgomery is going to make it as far as the first team is concerned it’ll be in midfield.

He is actually a CM tbf. As in that’s his natural position.

But equally, you dont want to be too reliant on them to the point where a couple of injuries in certain positions and they are all needed together.

We dont know how ready they are in terms of a footballing perspective of being able to play Championship football but moreso how they could cope physically if needed to play consecutive games.

Also, if we bank on more than a couple coming through at once, its unrealistic. They wont all be ready at the same time.

You don’t want to be reliant, but you can’t fill your squad with loanees and old players just in case.Β

its a risk and you never know if they really are up to it unless given a chance. How many times hasnt players really found there place and stood out because of injuries on the first XI.Β

I'll counter that and ask what Cantwell brings? What's he good at?Β

Doesn't score, doesn't assist, slow, struggles to cross, can't hit a dead ball.

All whilst being out alleged top earner.

I don’t see Cantwell as a #10. He doesn’t assist regularly enough, or have the composure in front of goal to score regularly.

I think Cantwell β€˜assists the assist’ more often than not. He’s very good technically and I think he would play best deeper as part of a midfield three, alongside Trav with Sonny sat slightly behind.

Its a long season though, it feels different in pre season when basically everyone is fit.

You need more bodies (and quality) to get through the whole slog of a season. And it doesnt have to "block pathways." A great example is Travis. We had a number of senior midfielders and he was on the fringes initially. He got his chance, took it and stayed in the team, never mind the squad.

He got 7 assists last season which was the highest in the squad. And that was in a poor personal season where he never really got over not having a full pre season, and in a squad that had no pace running in behind.

He has always played either as a number 10 or from the left in his career.

I dont usually like the mentality of signing 1 player to play 2 positions. It doesnt solve the issue of not having enough players, that player cant play 2 positions at the same time.

But considering we are signing at most 3 players. I wonder if someone like Triantis at Sunderland who we were linked with would be ideal. Not necessarily endorsing him as I havent seen very much of him, but someone similar. Hibs fans absolutely love him.

Hes a midfielder who really impressed but I think he signed for Sunderland as a centre back, although I may be wrong. At centre back, Hyam is rightfully an automatic pick, obviously we have 2 on the left, so someone like Triantis could provide a 5th option if needed whilst also predominantly pushing/eventually replacing Travis or Tronstad.

Might be out of range financially but more an example of that type of player to ensure that we can bring in at least 2 attackers. Rather than chasing someone with an injury.

I think he definitely will become surplus to requirements. Theyve signed 2 midfielders, are intent on Xhaka and already have Neil, Rigg, Le Fee, even Alan Browne.

But he will have had a pay increase upon promotion and also seems to have a lot of interest.Β
