Trinidad Rover Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) I find it worrying (and depressing...) when I read Gueye is being moved so we can free up wages for a new striker. Surely he cannot have been on much having come from a crap side in the second tier of the Belgian league? He was simply not good enough for Blackburn Rovers and symbolic of what has happened to the club. Expect another cheap punt to come in...round and round we go Edited 22 hours ago by Trinidad Rover Quote

Expect another cheap punt to come in...round and round we go I think people vastly underestimate just how much money very average Championship players are on Gueye will be very close to our self imposed wage ceiling. as will every player who is not on their first or second pro deal after coming through our academy (or being bought following a release from a youth team (such as Dolan when he initially joined from Preston) The days of players coming from abroad to play for Championship clubs for "only" £5K/week are long gone Edited 22 hours ago by KentExile 2 Quote

Well, as the discussion is based around performance for Rovers vs whether we lost any money on them, I suppose you have to consider their whole Rovers career. What I will do is just provide these stats for each players final season with Rovers, which is obviously the post-horrific injuries version of Dack. Dack: Played 33 | 7 Goals, 3 assists Ennis: Played 13 | 1 goal, 0 assists Telalovic: Played 20 | 0 goals, 0 assists So, which ones would you rather have playing for you? From an old fashioned point of view, I like Rovers players to actually do something when they play for us, rather than pay them for a year, completely waste a squad place and then hope we can break even or make a small profit after they've been a disaster. Whilst we don't know what he was earning at his last club, he was still a pro in a top division, so it wouldn't have been pennies. I'll resist the temptation to have a go at whoever negotiated the salary from the club's perspective. 2 Quote
KentExile Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago (edited) Also, for 2 strikers in their final season in Belgium prior to joining Rovers Gueye - played 35, scored 11 Gudjohnsen - played 46, scored 5 When Rovers were negotiating contracts. they were fishing in very similar ponds, probably on very similar wages * before someone suggests it, I am not saying Gueye is worth as much/more, or is better than Gudjohnsen. I am just comparing the respective negotiating hands for each player when they signed for us, there are also other factors too (age, potential, etc) Edited 21 hours ago by KentExile 1 Quote

We really shouldnt. 5 Quote

Agreed we shouldn’t but using nailed on and more or less aren’t the same it’s one or the other just stating we aren’t sheff wed we have a fighting chance Quote

The aerial capability in that back line is severely lacking, and very unbalanced... just one right footer Hedges is unlikely to play from Rovers again Who is meant to be providing crosses to the front pairing? Gudjohnsen would be almost completely neutralised without Ohashi doing his running for him Edited 21 hours ago by KentExile Quote

Hedges doesn't score or assist? Cantwell see above. Pickering has some of the worst anticipation I've ever seen as a defender also lets the ball bounce ever time. McLaughlin - liability. Cashin? Never seen him play 1 Quote

I'd say c1 grand a week to 4 grand a week and that is about right given the respective standards in leagues even if he isn't up to it. However a penny more than that is an absolute farce. 1 Quote

They can’t adapt to the players at their disposal resulting in them playing the same system/tactics etc ‘come what may’ This ! To be fair a lot of them just operate under the same remit of 'developing' players via stats sheets and find themselves choosing from limited pools of similar type players. Spewed out by British academies and very robotic seriously lacking individuality and off the cuff skills and personalities. Stats run the game and that is now being taken over by AI run stats which to some is the gospel because they know no different. Clubs with rafts of backroom staff never having played the game at any decent level for any length of time but was have been in a pro academy or just a Uni grad. I pads running the game at all levels and not football experience so we end up with head coaches all doing, trying the same thing. Because the blueprint says so. 3 Quote

Rover down South Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) I've never thought Gueye is up to this level of football. A big lump that causes defenders problems, but unlike say Simms or K.Moore, he doesn't return the goals required from a striker. Good luck to him wherever he goes next, but he should have been the one sold in August and Harry Leonard the one retained. For comparison, using TransferMarkt, I've taken the minutes and divided by goals across all competitions in a Rovers shirt to see where he ranks in terms of minutes per goal Sammie Szmodics* - 163.3 minutes Andri Gudjohnsen - 175.7 minutes Harry Leonard - 178.3 Andi Weimann - 185.3 minutes Yuki Ohashi - 275.1 minutes Makthar Gueye - 324.6 minutes Sam Gallagher* - 361.2 minutes (* For Sammie I used his last two full seasons with us and included those two games last season and for SG, his last two full seasons here.) Not to defend SG or MG but it would be fair to give some consideration to minutes as a sub and those of a starter, in addition how many sub appearances were in winning or losing positions at the time of coming on. KentExile Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago (edited) Are we all excited for a busy next 19 hours ahead? Ismael wanted 3 faces in the side for the Hull game, one down, 2 more need to be signed before noon tomorrow to be eligible to play. Or has he, like so many before him, been fed a load of lies (edit - or he is himself "aligned") Edited 18 hours ago by KentExile 3 Quote
