Which in Gueyes case, equates to him earning a lot more than £5K/week

Only if we said yes, or another club came in. Otherwise my scenario stands true.

Classic Venkys January so far, don't see it getting much better.

Given quality of summer signings vs academy lads we may as well just play the latter (tongue in cheek), but we desperately need some quality in, which we just aren't going to get.

Two strikers, two wing backs and maybe a centre mid should be the aim, and to permanently sign Baradji who has looked good. I doubt we get more than two new guys even if we shift 3 or 4, and they'll be Woodrow type loans knowing Gestede.

So let me get this straight we can bring in forwards for "a good fee" but that forward must accept wages between £5,000 - £10,000?? Good luck with a few things in this model:

  1. Getting those imaginary players in before Ipswich.
  2. Having players on that structure come in and have the immediate impact that's required.

(They will either have to lack quality or be unproven)

The bizarre setup is counterproductive and will only end in relegation from the Championship.

The owners need to get gone. Just a few more pennies to drop yet in the fanbase, must be the slow learners......

It's all just complete BS isn't it?

Seemingly a lot (not on here particularly) still seem to swallow it.

He is probably a better backup for Tronstad than anyone they can afford to buy are wiling to pay for

And he would be another who has gone straight from National League North into our first team, without loans elsewhere in-between

Quite a collection now, Montgomery, Atcheson, Litherland, Powell and Pratt all been in tier 6 over the past 12 months

You'd think clubs would learn we actually have good youth players, worth loaning and playing.

Such a policy allows Ismael, the Regime, Nixon and local media to tell everyone who can be bothered to read/listen that there is a decent kitty available for players

It will never get used, because none of our targets will entertain our derisory wage structure, but for minimal effort and zero cost they can pretend that there's a good Venky budget sat there

Heard and seen this before. All very convenient.

Now they are hoping to get one in (maybe) by the next game, from our B, C or D list

What happened to 3 or 4 in the first week of January?

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/25756631.blackburn-rovers-transfer-latest-pursuit-strikers/

Valerien Ismael admits it has become 'urgent' for Blackburn Rovers to sign more firepower in the January transfer window.

The head coach watched his side fail to score for the fourth time in five matches after a goalless FA Cup tie at Hull City. Axel Henriksson and youngster Nathan Dlamini were thrown up front with Yuki Ohashi desperate for a breather.

Ismael wants Rovers to sign two strikers this month, with work going on behind the scenes to bring players in. However, as the games pass, the need for more options becomes even greater.

"We are working behind the scenes very intensively to make it happen, for sure for me it's as quick as possible," Ismael said on striking targets.

"Until the end of January, there are four games and it's very important to have the player as quickly as possible.

"We see why now, we actually just have Yuki (Ohashi) as a real number nine, and yes, it's become urgent now to make it happen, so hopefully we can get someone in the building next week."

Bailey Cadamarteri has been linked with Rovers after previous interest in the summer transfer window. Scottish side Hibernian have, reportedly, had a bid rejected.

Ismael admitted he's a player that Rovers have looked at but wouldn't comment on interest in specific players.

He explained that irons were in the fire with multiple targets to ensure they get deals over the line.

"We know the player, but I don't want to comment any name for the market," Ismael said.

"I think we are working on some, not only in one direction. I would say something like that, when you want to get two strikers you have to make sure you are prepared for more (than one target).

"If someone says no then you have to make sure you have your plan B, C, D, but as I say we are prepared, we are working hard behind the scenes, and as I say if you can get one at least next week it will help us, but I think today we see clearly why we have to do something.

"We know it's about the profile of the player we need, the way we want to play, the intensity we want to put into the game, so it reduces the choice you get, but A, B, C, D, at least yes."

Not convinced by this. Some useful defenders, it seems, and players like Edmondson and Dunn are hopes, but the overall performances and results of the U21s suggests that we can't be overly reliant on the reserves. Quite often they have struggled against non-league teams. However, it increasingly looks like we will be turning to them.

id prefer instead of spending £750K (or more) each on De Neve, Henriksson, Kargbo, Gueye, Tavares they instead spent £2M + each on two players and then promoted 3 or 4 academy kids, and then used the money saved on those wages for renewing some contracts

I wonder sometimes do Mowbray, JDT, Eustace ever read or hear these sort of comments and chuckle to themselves that the current manager is experiencing exactly the same nonsense, and coming out with exactly the same problems and excuses, as they were forced to put up with in their time in charge.

It seems Ismael isn't yet fully versed in the way of things here. He will be by month end.

For what it’s worth I don’t think Mowbray ever really came across the same problems budget wise. Didn’t he actively discourage spending in the January of the season where we beat Bournemouth away to go 2nd??

The new brains trust inside Ewood thinks it's being clever operating a two for the price and wages of one policy all across the squad.

We are seeing the benefits of that this season but it's ok it's working, they might make 800k on Gueye !

Well that was the party line yes....though I'm of the view he was prepared to say that or not bothered about correcting it as it served to 'protect' the Indians from criticism.

I find it all too convenient that for owners who have shown zero appetite to invest that they managed to find what must have been the only manager int the world who 'actively discouraged' them from doing so.

More likely Mowbray knew he wasn't getting anything/wasn't worth asking but he and Waggott weren't going to upset the apple cart by telling fans that it was Venkys' fault.

He knew better than that. It's the only way of getting sacked around that place.

They clearly haven't been prepared to back managers in the last 2-3 years when sat in the top 6 in January, so much so that both managers have forced their way out within a fortnight of the window closing, so I find it unbelievable that they were prepared to back Mowbray but for inexplicable reasons never seen before in football he chose to turn it down. Far too convenient.

No. Every single manager has encountered these problems. Mowbray took a bit longer to experience them but he did, every manager has and will.

In the season you mention. In the summer we sold Armstrong and reinvested nothing. Mowbray spent all summer moaning about it. In January, he was willing to sacrifice Rothwell to sign players. He wasnt allowed and again publically complained about it.

But knowing that he will not land another job in the Championship, he will probably put up with just about anything.

My prediction: the day he leaves Rovers is the day he has decided to move back to his family in France.

Agree to a point. They were fairly happy to spend for Mowbray for a while then held back a bit, I’m sure partly due to how awful BBD was before he got the D…
By no means a Venkys apologist, hate the tossers, but I do think Mowbray had a very different experience to more recent managers

Somewhere between Henriksson and Telalovic ability wise? Or closer to Ennis type potential?
