Ep 127 - The One Where BRFCS Meets Tommy Spurr
bazza replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Excellent podcast. Keep 'em coming, Herbie -
Earlier someone quoted Nyambe as having 0 assists. Can we update the statistics to 1 assist. ??☝️

Yep! From a Rovers supporter's point of view, the bottom of the championship is becoming exciting to watch for the rest of the season. I reckon Charlton, Luton and either Barnsley or Hull will go. I would love Barnsley to avoid it but time is running out for them. I expected them to be out of the bottom 3 by now with their new manager.

This was a much more difficult game (on paper) than Stoke. I had a feeling before kick off that we would lose. We have so many injuries and a suspension. We did better than I expected. It was such a great feeling to cheer that Johnson equaliser. Thank goodness Nyambe forgot he was centre back for a few seconds and whipped that low cross in for our first goal.

Whilst checking wiki's football manager list I noted David Dunn as Blackpool manager for 11 days. Of course he's just the caretaker manager. When I checked the managers and caretaker managers that Blackpool have had over the years I was surprised at how many are former players, managers or coaching staff from Rovers. Here's the list starting with Dunny and going back in time. David Dunn, Simon Grayson (2nd spell), Terry McPhillips, Gary Bowyer, Neil McDonald, Barry Ferguson, Paul Ince, Michael Appleton, Tony Parkes, Simon Grayson (1st spell), Colin Hendry, Sam Allardyce, Ron Suart. Allardyce and Appleton were there before coming to Rovers.

I thought it was in, too. I think that's the first time Nyambe has tried a shot. I hope it's TM telling him to do so. I hope he tries it more often. What a shame it didn't fly into the top corner.
-
I don't know. Last time I saw him was several years ago when he was still working for Rovers. Maybe SteB or others may know.
-
I have to tell you this story again because every time I remember it I laugh. It is so true of football supporters in general, but especially Rovers fans. My son who lived in Spain was coming over. He was trying to arrange to meet up with Mr Lee Grooby, formerly of this site. He asked Lee what he normally did after a game at Ewood and Grooby replied,"Walk home despondently". ??

OK. Maybe not pre-war but certainly pre 1950. I think Stuart could be right (for once?). My dad wore double breasted suits and coats and always wore a trilby hat. And I wore short pants up until the age of 12. So if that photo was say 1948 I would have been 5 years old and nowhere near Ewood Park. My dad would have been 46.

Judging by the motor vehicles I'd say it was pre-war. When did trilby hats become fashionable?

Brentford (A) - 12:30pm KO (Sat 22nd Feb 2020)

I am very very pleased with what TM is doing at Rovers. We are a very tough side to play against. We look so solid even when being battered by one of the best teams in the division. A big improvement to Brentford away last season. Good point today. Full of confidence for the rest of the season. -

If we win this one 2-0 will we be on for automatic promotion? Good luck, Rigger. Let us know how you get on. I suppose a taxi from Euston to Griffin Park is too expensive. -
Tugay Kerimoglu goal with Andy Gray commentary..
bazza replied to Letkajenkka's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
It was a right wing corner taken by MGP. Instead of putting it into the penalty area or trying to score direct as he often did, MGP sent it pre-arranged to Tugay outside the box who hit it so sweetly on the volley. Two great goals that day. Nothing Fulham could have done about either goal. -
Any chance of Lottery numbers for this Saturday?
-
Yeah. A lot of games are quite dead at Ewood.

Pity it wasn't our highest finish for 25 years. Looks like it's going to be Brentford's. -

I thought every Fulham player did very well also. -

We were played off the park today by the best team at Ewood so far this season. Referee was good for a change. Bryan, their left back, was excellent and gave as good as he got from Nyambe. He is a product of Bristol City youth and cost 6 million. And he was only one of 11 other excellent players. Rovers were outclassed. Bring on Hull. -
Chapman was another when on loan who went back on the pitch after injuring his hamstring.
-
All these injuries this season makes me wonder about our training methods. Do other teams have as many injuries as we do? I know PNE fans complain about theirs. Should we be looking in depth at the methods used, the training staff and the medical staff? Serious injuries; Cunningham, Dack, Grayson, and Butterworth. Other players affected by injury; Brereton, Magloire, Tosin, Lenihan, Williams, Nyambe, Evans, Rothwell and now Holtby. That's 13 players and the season is only 2/3rds through.
-
They've sold their two main strikers.
-
I just hope Downing doesn't have a stinker, being back at his old club.
-
Yes. I agree. Becoming a real gem of a player.
