He would slot in perfectly alongside Mulgrew. Bring the Heed home.

Sheffield United vs Blackburn Rovers: 29th December 2018
Butty replied to SBlue's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
A top striker is not going to solve the fact we have one defender who is consistently good enough for this division and even he had a stinker today. There’s a lot of quality that needs too be added across the pitch before we can compete in this division. Two wingers, a centre back, a striker and a left back are all needed. If we can’t get Reed on a perm we’ll need to replace him too. Never mind if Dack goes.. Next summer is going to be very interesting. -

Massive rebuild needed in the summer. Other than Raya,Mulgrew, Nyambe, Reed Dack Graham and Bennett I wouldn’t be upset to see any of the rest leave. That’s the reality of it unfortunately. We haven’t got the quality to expect anything more than a 15th or 16th place finish this season. If the chicken farmers are serious about righting the wrongs they need to back the manager next summer. -

Fuck sake rovers. -
The point I was trying to make was as well as Bennett giving his all for the shirt, which like you say giving 100% should be expected from everyone of course, he is a leader in a team where there are a lot of young players and I was suggesting that those qualities may give the rest of the players a lift when he’s back fit.. I also don’t think he should be exempt from criticism just because he gives his all every week, It was more aimed at Rev who has constantly singled Bennett out for criticism for what seems like forever. There are games when you can single him out as not contributing enough in an attacking sense, he should get more assists and more goals but having a player like Bennett who is more often than not a 7/10 every week is someone you need at this level. He has his limitations but I dont like seeing him singled out in the way Rev has always done when a lot of the time he hasn’t deserved that level of criticism.
-
Hahaha you went quiet about Bennett for a while when all you used to do was slag him off, how you can have such a gripe with a player who without being the most talented gives absolutely everything for the shirt whenever he plays is beyond me. Maybe Bennett coming back into the side is exactly what we need, not for the fact he’s going to pick the ball up from 40 yards out beat 4 players and smash it in too the top bins, but more for his work rate and desire, and his leadership qualities on the pitch. Benno coming back in to the mix will hopefully give the boys a lift.

If you look at Farke Wagner and Warnock in recent years, all three of those at Norwich Huddersfield and Cardiff had mediocre first seasons at this level before seeing a big improvement, neither of those three spent big money and we’ve just got to hope that given the chance, we can push on ourselves next season. I’m not saying that Mowbray should be given a free ride this season, I’ve said myself that some of his team selections and tactical decisions piss me off but I honestly think we lack the quality to expect anymore from this season than where we are currently at, next season is hopefully a different story and I’ll back TM until the day he fails.

With every episode things like this stood out more and more, I quite enjoyed the series as a whole but Jesus some of the production was so amateurish. -
It baffles me that some people hold our relegation against Mowbray when the amount of points we picked up under him, over the season would have kept us more than safe, he got us back up first time of asking and with our current squad still featuring the majority of that promotion side, the league table would suggest we are possibly overachieving! Don’t get me wrong Mowbray pisses me off sometimes with the way he sets us up and some of his decisions are more than questionable at times, but he’s made us very hard to beat and the reality is we don’t have enough quality in this team to play any other way. Next season is the one where if we strengthen in the summer, we should raise expectations of both Mowbray and the team, but for now I honestly think we are where we should be in the league, you cant say our lads dont give maximum effort every week, I just think with the quality in our squad, sometimes maximum effort still isn’t enough... I pray to god Mowbray gets his recruitment right in the summer but until then, calm down boys..... EDIT: Yes, suggesting to replace Mowbray with Aidy Boothroyd has to be one of the most mental things I’ve ever read on here. Absolute insult too TM that f**k me

I won’t say Mowbray has taken us as far as he can until there comes a point where we are actually underachieving as a squad and as a team, we are where we should be on paper and if we could hold on to a lead we’d be in the top six, you could obviously lay the blame at Mowbray for the way in which we’ve been seeing out games but for us to be mid table at this point in the season is not bad at all. Until we have a squad which on paper should be challenging towards the top end of the league but isn’t, you can’t say Mowbray has taken us as far as he can. Bowyer’s 2013-2015 Rovers should definitely have finished in the top six in one of those two seasons, we had two strikers with 20 goals each in the 14/15 season.. I can’t help but feel our good start to the season has raised expectations too much, survival was the main aim for this season and we will do that. All of us can see we need two wingers, a new left back another striker and a centre half partner for Mulgrew. Spending what we have on Brereton is indefensible and if Mowbray doesn’t address these issues in the summer I will soon change my tune, but if we can add those positions before the start of next season we should be right to expect more but until that time comes we should accept the fact we won’t be pulling many trees up this year, just throwing leads instead

Talk of relegation is madness we aren’t going to go down, at the start of the season I thought we’d stay up and finish around 15th/16th which would be a solid season for us as a newly promoted team, I think the fact we started so well has amplified the fact we’ve been so poor over the last month or so, if we’d have spent all season hanging around 12th-15th I don’t think there would be the uproar there is now. We have too many league one standard players to be even thinking about the top six. The fact we throw so many leads away pisses me off and some of Mowbrays tactical decisions are baffling but you can’t say where we are in the league now is an underachievement with our squad, if anything we are over achieving. When I saw we went 2-1 up today I was buzzing and to throw it away like that yet again is madness, there is clearly something wrong or something missing in this squad whether it’s from TM or the players mentality, I don’t know. There’s so much work too be done with this squad, and I’ve still got faith in TM to be at the helm for the push but I might think differently come the end of the season... Bit of a half drunk ramble that...
-
I don’t mind being too loyal to the lads who took us up, but once we stay up this season I would expect a lot of improvements to the squad in the summer if we really are serious about kicking on, and I’d certainly be disappointed if the likes of Bell and Smallwood are still starting games next season..

If TM was ever to leave our best option would just be to appoint whoever is managing Dortmund’s reserves there last 3 managers have all gone on to have success. Wolf Wagner and Farke... Gold mine for managers. -
If there was a way we could back out of the BB deal and use that money to buy Reed permenantly it would be the dream scenario, if only. This lad is a class act.

Rovers V Norwich 22/12/18

We’ll be dogged and keep them at bay, they’ll bring Rhodes on and he’ll bag the winner... On a serious note, we seem to perform better against the sides towards the top end of the division and we’ll definitely give them a game. Score draw 1-1. -
Nuttall has always scored goals for the U23s since we signed him, this season and last season. However, from what I’ve seen of him he wasn’t good enough for league one last season and unless he’s dramatically improved which I don’t think he has then i’d much rather us loan him out in Jan to get some first team football. On playing BB in the u23s though, I wouldn’t object too that. He badly needs minutes, as well as some confidence.

Grayson a one off hit? He’s got 4 separate clubs promoted from league one. Maybe that’s his level ultimately but you can’t call him a one off hit. Do agree in the documentary though that he looked really uninspiring, maybe that spark has gone for him. Comparing him to Coyle is an insult though, the ultimate one trick pony. -
Braithwaite would be a class signing, he’s a real player. Boro fans want him playing but he’s fell out with Pulis by all accounts... Villa were wanting 30/40 million for Grealish so that’s probably why he’s still there. Nobody would pay that for him, the reality is he’ll probably go for 10-20 million and the same goes for Dack. It’s very unlikely we’d get much more than 20 for him Chaddy.

He may or may not be the man to take us further but we can’t say that till we’ve got a squad that’s expected to be getting promotion or a squad that is underachieving. Despite our shortcomings, we’re over achieving this season in terms of league position and if we were too finish the season where we are now on the edge of the top half it would be a fantastic platform to build on and we can’t judge Mowbray until that time comes... For me, Mowbray is getting the most out of this current squad if not more. We are hard to beat, we just lack that bit of quality. We have for me, Raya (despite his balls up today) Mulgrew, Nyambe, Reed, Dack and Graham who are all comfortably good enough for this level. The rest can be improved upon and that will take time, I hope that TM isn’t overly loyal to those players who should be gradually taking a backseat... This is going to be a long process but for now, we are doing okay. And for now, Mowbray is getting the best out of this squad of players. -

Big difference between the u23s and Championship football. Nuttall banged them in last season for the u23s but when he played in the first team he was nowhere near good enough. He’s still not up too Championship standard, we should have loaned him out to a league one or two side for regular senior first team football... We definitely need a striker in, in January. New striker and New left back has to be top of our list, wouldn’t mind a winger either. If only we had say, 7 million to spend on those 3 positions -

Can’t blame Brereton for the result today at all, a lot of people have made this point but only a select few could be argued to have singled him out for criticism. Think this point has been made into a bigger issue than it is... I stick by the fact he cannot be blamed for today but I’ll also stick by my opinion that for a club with questionable finances, for us to have spent 7 million pounds on an unproven 19 year old is f**king crazy. -

Lost for words after that today. If we could hold a lead we’d be in the top two that’s the reality of it!!! Mental.. -
Did Bentley and Duff not go for 17 million too? Too be fair, if he doesn’t go in January it will be in the summer. If we were to get around 20m for him that would be hard to turn down, and I’m sure Dack himself would find it hard to turn down a move like that too. We’ll cross this bridge when it comes too it

Fair enough, I agree he should be given the season absolutely. Suppose we’ll see how serious there new owners are soon enough... Paul Warne has done a great job with Rotherham so far this season, on paper they should be where Ipswich are. I know it’s early days but If he can keep them up he’s my manager of the season, unless TM pulls a miracle off and we finish in the playoffs
