Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?
JBiz replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I asked myself, “what have I missed?” for this to be the mood. Then I read a page or two back that suggest we’ve lost out on a player due to a team with parachute payments paying more wages, I shrugged my shoulders and logged out. -

Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

What do you think agents are saying to players when top championship defenders are on 50k? The system we have is restrictive but that’s down to the 12 year malaise. -

One of the best centrebacks we’ve had since league one is Tosin. He is now on 50kpw and was promoted this year with Fulham. Thats the equivalent of our 3 top earners combined. If you understand wage discrepancy and the advantage of parachute payments, you understand the issue. Throw in city teams with higher turnover, more hands on owners - they’d gladly give someone an extra 10k a week over 3 years if they aren’t paying a transfer fee. It’s almost as if many discussing these issues think BRFC is the only team in the country. -
The Ryan Nyambe Appreciation Thread
JBiz replied to blueboy3333's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Hmmm Which is worse? A. Joining in with an away crowd singing a “tongue in cheek” song about a player leaving the club B. regularly posting about how players “should be sold” because “they’re obviously not good enough” Answers on a post card. -
The Ryan Nyambe Appreciation Thread

Gutted but also slightly peeved at his reluctance to commit to the club. Its hard not to see these things without “Lancashire Rose tinted glasses” but still the only person who makes the decision to stay and play is Ryan. Good luck but I hope you play shit against the blues. -

Surely in 2022 “letting these 3 leave” isn’t a sentence that’s compatible with reality? -

28 year old Centreback with tonnes of experience and no fee? Much easier conversation with the chairman regarding wages and signing on fee. Oh and remember their chairman actually lives near the fecking club. We’ve had the benefit of seeing him in the flesh though, and can anyone really dispute that the best two centrebacks we’ve seen in the last 5 years for us are Tosin and JPVH? -

I’ll remember to mention to the thousands chanting such things that Matty from BRFCS thinks they’re childish. “Pure dog” btw is an obvious colloquialism by the way, its not like I’m asking for top grade cannabis is it? -

1. Ownership 2. Turnover 3. Debt 4. A free signing moving clubs generally attracts a big signing on fee. -

Hilarious how you’d pure dog the club for trying to raise revenue but then defend someone who will be set for life because of the opportunities we gave them. Who walked away for nothing. -
Transfer Window - COMPLETE. Where’s Gregg?

No but you forgot the constant haemorrhage of money for 12 years, the lack of a decent ownership and the deficit closing the stadium for 12 months created. -

I don’t think we would’ve described selling those three for a cut price last summer as “good business” Especially in the league we are in, the difference between success and failure is the kind of money that would’ve made those three irrelevant to the “journey” so it’s understandable that they kept hold. Equally “allowing their contracts to run down” is the type of sentence that just winds me up. They either sign or they don’t. You cannot force players too, and despite the likes of JHR suggesting our money issues / limitations are imaginary, it’s not a surprise to me that these three would rather take the contracts with the most money. Thats despite being given a chance here. Rothwell perhaps less, but Nyambe and Lenihan both owe their entire careers to our academy. I will be singing “there’s only one greedy bastard” anyway. -
You know JHR - for all the falling out and arguing it’s clear you’re an exceptionally astute mind - we both know that the scenario were in is a knock on effect of our ownership. I genuinely think the only are we’re disagreeing on this is commercial advertising as opposed to price. Whilst i stand by the notion that preston are on the crest of a wave - their expectation is minimal, I agree that there is too much of a disparity between our sales and theirs. That difference comes down to expectation for me. Imagine a supporting a team that hadn’t been top tier for donkeys? Even a moderate step towards progress is easy to sell. 8th position for a team that’s suffered a manufactured decline? How do you convince thousands of people to look past that? Whilst I’m not on for oversimplification; Price isn’t the answer. Results are more important.
-
You’re using a salary of one player but you’re probably in the majority of people who want to see us employ probably another 3 minimum players. Yet you’d advocate us dropping enough turnover to employ one we already have.
-
Typically cynical. Every scenario is individual. You know this but you’d rather ignore it. We’re not fighting for survival or promotion from the third tier. Our collective expectations need turnover. That’s not opinion btw, that’s fact.
-
This is mad - I mean, my personal circumstances are irrelevant. Do I want more fans in the stadium? Absolutely. Just not convinced a £100 or something off the price means you’ll convince 5000 people to turn up.
-
Just like our debt and expectation then?
-
Ah come one, concentrate on the content as opposed to the profile name. Do you understand the different pressures where turnover is concerned? I actually agree that prices being cheaper would obviously be better, in a world where everything seems to be skyrocketing. Im just not convinced that the experts, the accountants agree that this is the best way to increase turnover. Someone suggested we’d sell double at £250 the other day. Pie in the sky nonsense imo,
-
Bolton… you mean those lads in a lower league, sold all their infrastructure (IE lower running costs) under previous ownership, less competitive wages for top players in the division… no debt? Wonder why their turnover might not be as important.
-
I sit JWU and it was £429
-
It doesn’t blow any “apologist” FACTS about how thousands have walked away, not because of PRICE but success. Burnley despite relegation are still in a decent position with squad and expectation, PNE are close to as high as they’ve been for years and Bolton have a new ownership and a “positive” on our way back message. In terms of necessary turnover, Burnley start the season with £35m+ in sponsor compared to our 5m, Preston save around £8m a year compared to us in terms of facilities, and wage outgoings for third and fourth tier clubs is a fraction of the competitive championship. What does all that mean? People with different opinions to your constant moaning aren’t “apologists”. They’re probably far closer to the pulse, at least in my opinion. Those desperate for cheaper prices, but also desperate for investment in the team surely need to read about the FFP rules, parachute payments and also remember that the only times in history where Blackburn Rovers could easily sell half their stadium as ST’s…. Immediately followed a sustained period of SUCCESS. To expect many of those back after the last 12 years, without any results, just prices and a new structure…. Incredibly naive in my book.
-
You’ve just basically assumed a load of reasons and decisions to justify an opinion. You, I and all and sundry have no idea of the structure, the decision making or the rationale behind interview. Just assuming the worst to pander to a developed dislike of someone who works at the club… bizarre in my book. An easy example - you say we “lost our top two candidates”; 1. You have no evidence, only assumption that was the case. 2. You don’t know why they (if even approached) decided to not take it up. Taking “in the know” knowledge from BRFCS as gospel is ridiculous. If there’s anything this summer proves, that is it.
-
The more I think about our new setup, the more encouraged and optimistic I am. Obviously it’s all down to actual success but I feel like this is the first time we can actually appreciate some creativity from our owners and management.
-
I think there’s more deep seated malaise due to Venkys, preston for example are probably as close to the best they’ve been for decades and Bolton are in a different ownership and “on their way back”. I’m certain we’ve had this discussion a few hundred times in the last ten years, but I’m not convinced anything other than success and promotion will retain the figures discussed in the Allardyce era and before. I don’t think price is such a barrier. I think many ex ST holders at rovers have their own reasons, more to do with level and expectations, which ultimately impact experience.
