  1. One of my favourite players too. I remember watching him, playing for Leicester in that dramatic game at Ewood. I think Newell actually got sent off, but I was really impressed with his touch and work rate...I was actually wishing he played for us....and a few short years later, there he was making his Rovers debut at home to Boro. He scored a really cool finish that day at the Blackburn End. Happy Days!
  2. Le Saux clearly had issues/others had with him...I remember an interview he did with Barry Davies, after his awful injury, when he implied he hadn't had good wishes from everyone.. Then there were rumours of a significant clique/Southport Mafia, which I assumed meant Shearer, Flowers, Warnock ...and Newell? And something was clearly going on beneath that scene with Batty in Moscow....
  3. I was feeling a bit superstitious in being amused by this...then I remembered we are already in Purgatory!
  4. I knew I had forgotten someone. One of my favourite Rovers players of all time. I remember being so proud for him, when George Best was on the commentary team for an international and referred to "Noel Brotherston's magic."
  5. Good luck. For a while, it seemed I used to spend half my working life, mingling in the juvenile court throng!
  6. Dougan was also UKIP and a Bring Back Hanging campaigner! I only remember him playing for Wolves, but the Wembley fitness/ transfer thing certainly takes some forgiving! Football and fairness are funny, though. My Dubliner wife never forgot how hurt we all were about the way Chris Price left Rovers for Villa and found it inconceivable that he returned to the club and was allowed to play at Wembley, while Simon Garner wasn't!
  7. Now I know the mods get sensitive about anything that could be construed, as political, but a Rovers "united Ireland" team would be interesting...Off the top of my head,..Allan Hunter, Derek Dougan, Jimmy Quinn..
  8. Well done to all for this and thanks!
  9. Brilliant! Dirty mag men, both...
  10. You might enjoy this, which I saw on Facebook.. I know it's poor taste, but it made me laugh out loud -especially the last line of 1st verse! The scousers thought they'd won it. The title looked a cert. W***ing themselves silly Ending 30 years of hurt. By far they were the best team. It was proven by the stats. Then China fucked their season By eating fucking bats..... 2nd verse All the way from China To end the league in March No back to back in Europe No sight of Wembley Arch They thought they'd go unbeaten They must have been insane Because thanks to Covid 19 They've won fuck all again
  11. "No matter what you studied..." lol That you, Boris?
  12. To quote Kenny Dalglish's response to Guy Havord of Radio Lancs: "Are you a doctor now, all of a sudden?"
  13. What? The biggest scandal in the town for many years, involving hundreds of jobs and millions of pounds1 Imagine, if it was the MEN or Liverpool Echo!!!
  14. Why? I thought it was just ironic shorthand for its long spell, as an uncritical, party-line ( non) newspaper...
  15. I wouldn't be there!
  16. Agreed. I know I have a bee in my bonnet about "how bad it was in the 80's" and "our natural level etc"..and I am on a mission from God to challenge it.....on line lol You are so right about our constant bereavement, as bigger clubs poached managers and players. I was working in Burnley at the time they lost Coyle and they were gutted.(almost as gutted as I was when we appointed him!) It was the first time they had experienced it! With Furphy, Lee, Smith and Kendall Rovers fans had lost four good managers in a row. And it is a sign of the modern, foreign manager obsessed times that Dyche didn't leave long ago-for the likes of Everton, Leicester or Villa. What's the point of it all indeed. I have come to think of Rovers fans, as characters in a Beckett play. We are all upside down in a barrel of Venky sh**, awaiting the next repeat cycle of pointlessness!
  17. Thanks, but I think you will agree that compares very poorly to the Rovers' performance in the 80's?
  18. Sorry. I know I am in danger of labouring this point, but we made a much better fist of it in the 80's. Twice we missed out only on the last day and we were in the top 2/3 certainly up to Christmas on more than one occasion. Under Venky's, I can't recall Rovers even entering the playoff positions for more than 10 minutes under Bowyer- and that it with shedloads of parachute and transfer fees received! It feels pretty pointless. We are treading water ...and losing money! Apart from all that, I agree with you!
  19. So Chicken George was a Venky's employee after all!
  20. Enjoyed the interview. Always loved Don Mackay and actually felt a bit uncomfortable/ashamed, when he was sacked after all he had done. Not saying it was wrong, but it didn't feel good(for me.) A few years later, the night after the Cantona Kung Fu incident, I was driving up the motorway with the radio on. Don was on a Radio 5 live phone -in. One of the callers-with a distinct, Lancashire accent- was arguing that Cantona should be banned for the season/for life/for ever etc. Don joked- "Isn't that because you want Blackburn Rovers to win the title!" I laughed out loud. However, the best bit came right at the end, when the caller said, "We still love you at Blackburn, Don. God Bless!" And so we do!
  21. Agreed. And I seem to remember Desai spouting that the future was loans, just after the takeaway...
