  1. He was brilliant at giving himself a yard or two and getting a run on the defender. A 5'10" striker gives himself a good chance against a 6'+ defender if he buys himself that space. Jansen and Speedie were also terrific in this regard. Fabulous readers of the game who saw the whole picture. Its what separates the top, top players from the also-rans.
  2. Hello mate - I noticed that these didn’t sell. Would you take £20 for them?
  3. Long story but I got to know Terry Butcher to talk to when he was Motherwell manager as I used to work in the town at that time. He was a smashing bloke and always happy to have a blether. Anyway he told a story about Allan Hunter. Terry said that in his younger days, whenever he played he used to make the sign of the cross for luck before the game kicked off. He had done it all his career and it had become a superstition. Hunter was injured or suspended for this particular game and was watching from the stand and saw Butcher bless himself. Afterwards he grabbed Terry by the throat and asked him if he was a Catholic. He told him he wasn't, and that he was an English Protestant. When Butcher explained that it was for luck Hunter told him to remember he was a Protestant and he warned him never to do it again or else he would really sort him out. He said it was just as well he learned that lesson before he signed for Rangers!!
  4. As I posted on the Blackburn Memories Facebook page when I saw this great photo, I started watching Rovers 2 or so years after this and there were only two of these still in the team by then (The Don and Mecky). There must have been a hell of a clear out over the following 2-3 seasons?
  5. Totally agree. Of course, it does help when you're winning and playing well. Long may it continue for Lanky.
  6. To be fair to him he isn’t the only person who has passed on titbits from trusted sources. I have as well. Whether they come to fruition time will tell but to debunk people because Nixon says otherwise is laughable to be honest.
  7. So suddenly Nixon is the font of all knowledge? He was telling us a completely different story a very short time ago. He really has no idea.
  8. I think your Alex Neil prediction of a few weeks ago will not be far off the mark. There is an unresolved situation that will have a knock-on vacancy that he might be in the running for (surprisingly) that is stopping him from being available right now.
  9. Nah there's a very famous song with Carpenter in the title @windymiller7 so we would have been okay I think 😉 Culture Club - Church Of The Poison Mind
  10. Lancs racking up the runs at Kent. Congratulations to Luke Wood and Danny Lamb, both of whom have just scored their highest first class score.
  11. Since when did Tony Mowbray deal in truth and fact? 😉
  12. @JacknOry you've just reminded me of another pet hate. People talking loudly on their phones while walking along the street - particularly on hands free. Its very discombobulating to say the least!
  13. Paul what you have described is pretty much what I was told would be happening at the end of the season. I was told this about half way through the death spiral by someone who I trust. Then there seemed to be a new urgency (I can't remember which defeat it was after, they are all blending into one now!) and the same person indicated that the termination was being brought forward, which is when I posted that info on here. I have no idea what happened (nor does he) but it sounds to me like they had a replacement in mind that fell through. Based on what I have been told previously, and his demeanour and statements in all recent interviews, I 100% believe that he will walk away at the end of the season.
  14. Yep, I know exactly what you mea AAARRRGGHHH what was that? Fuck, I didn't see that lamppost there!
