WBA VS ROVERS - SAT 27TH
JacknOry replied to Dreams of 1995's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I think he was meaning perm signings mainly - loans can always go either way as they are usually youngsters. I am not going to put BB into any list as of yet as it is still too early to judge, same with Davenport as we are still yet to even see him properly. Good: Dack, Smallwood, Rothwell, Rodwell, Bell, Armstrong, Downing (did the job in L1 but not sure he good enough for Championship) Good Loanees: Reed, Palmer (tho not featuring at the minute), Payne (didnt do much but was a good option off the bench), Antonnsson (split opinions but got some important goals) Bad: Caddis, Whittingham, Gladwin, Samuel (mainly for the fee), Hart Bad Loanees: Harper Close to being about 50/50 overall which I believe most managers will have similar. My issue is the positions that have been targeted rather than the personnel themselves. We have players like Rothwell and Palmer that can barely get time on the pitch while we are very light up top and at the back and have no actual wingers. -
While I agree to an extent that there are similarities, the abuse you lot have got is nowhere near on the level we got. Mainstream media was all over us rather than just other fans and we were portrayed very badly. Agree that Lambert is about the best that you could have hoped for right now but I hope his compensation package is small as he will run out on you at some point if things are not going right or he finds some other excuse. Be prepared to hear lots of stories about how he had been all over Europe taking in advice from the likes of Klopp and Pep on how to manage. His football is not that great either but he does manage to get results sometimes.

Obviously good for us is that Friedal was very underrated. Even now I look back and wonder why no clubs came in for him as he really was a fantastic keeper - the best in my lifetime at Rovers.

WBA VS ROVERS - SAT 27TH

Worried about this one tbh. They score for fun but let them in for fun too while we concede for fun and struggle to score in open play. I have a feeling TM will setup to contain again when I feel we should be more adventurous against them. Sit back too much against this lot and they will just get more confident as the game goes ahead as they will see that we are not going to cause them too much at the back. I would argue that this is a game to have AA upfront at some point - possibly from the start. His pace will cause them problems on the break and will stop them playing with a high line - just wish his finishing improves. -
They are three sentences, not paragraphs.

Ah that old chestnut. Negative and positive. How am I negative for saying that a transfer fee will always be used as a consideration when judging a player? I have not even said anything about BB as a whole and believe he needs more time in his preferred position. Hope he comes good but 30 minutes here and on the wing is not enough to be able to form an opinion just yet.

I agree its more about potential and resale value rather than the here and now. This is slightly concerning though as we are short up top and at the back so we could have done with some signings to cover those areas. -
i would be doing what we can to try and make Reed a permanent in January if possible. The longer we mess about the more he will catch the eyes of others. Granted, Southampton might want to wait and see until the summer before making a decision based on the division they are in.

WBA VS ROVERS - SAT 27TH

It really is baffling tbh. It is like he doesnt even count BB as a striker. He hardly mentions him, preferring to talk about Samuel and Nuttall before him. If he was not bought to be a striker, why didnt we buy a striker? Did he really think going into the season with Graham, Samuel and Nuttall would be enough and would have the quality for the Championship? In terms of numbers its enough but I would have serious doubts of the latter two performing at the required level. Looks like we just bought a hundred midfielders and stringers (striker/wingers). -
Cannot say I am not chuckling away at Hurst getting the sack. Seems extremely arrogant after a bit of a one hit wonder season that ultimately failed anyway. The whole way the move took place left a bad taste in the mouth anyway, it was obviously agreed long before the end of the season and his mind was obviously on that job (to the benefit of us at least) and according to Shrews fans he hardly looked bothered about missing out in the playoff final. Then he rolls up, gets rids of a number of experienced championship players and brings in an influx of lower league players. Bringing one or two up is fine but they will need to complement the more experienced pros at this level. Huge gamble that didn't pay off - wouldn't mind picking up Gwion Edwards if they do go down though.

A paragraph here and there would have made that far easier to read. So its rubbish? Of course the contract comes into play as well - the whole value of the transfer comes into play. A freebie on 5k per week who turns out crap - nobody will care. Any expensive signing or player on large wages will have that taken into consideration if they are crap and it becomes a big deal as it is big money wasted by the club. Chaddy was the one leading the slagging towards Graham at the start of last season so ask your mate about that one. I have not even commented on Brereton and actually agree that he has not had the proper chance to show his true worth yet and will need time in his preferred position. My post was purely about Chaddy saying that transfer fees do not matter when it comes to judging the success of a transfer - which it obviously does. Using Nuttall was an extreme example rather than me saying he was actually better, though in fairness, as of yet I have not seen to much to suggest that this is incorrect as of yet. Once we get to see him upfront playing as a striker like he is meant to be - we can get a better opinion on him.
-
I am open and honest to admit that if I read open and honest again that I am going to top myself. Fees do not matter? Seriously Chaddy, (yes i am stalking you again) but if Madrid go and sign Kane for 200 million and he flops, do you not think that the fee would be part of the equation? If Madrid then signed some promising young Brazilian kid that then took the league by storm for just 200k, do you not think that his low fee would ever be mentioned? Difference is that prior to this season in the last, what is it, five years? we have barely had a net spend of a million and even that was in league 1 when we finally did break it - that we are now not allowed to discuss a transfer that could cost as much as 7 million? Stop telling people what they can and cannot talk about - this is a messageboard. We signed a player for seven million quid and he has looked no better than Nuttal who we signed for peanuts. Do we care if Nuttal turns out crap? N because he cost nothing, do we care if Brereton turns out crap? Yes because we could have spent that 7 million quid far better.

Cokpletely agree on both. They have both been great additions so far and seem to have become a part of the great dressing room spirit we have. -
Have to admit that this was my first thought too. Can understand the move from Barcelona but to then be wanted by Liverpool and United before choosing the former - how has he found his way here?

I thought Brereton played quite well and did his bit to see out the game. Agree with Arma, he gets tons of chances and really should do better with a lot of them. Hoping he bangs a few in and gets a bit of confidence in front of goal. -

Reed in the centre instead of Evans or Smallwood and Rothwell in the three behind and I would agree with that lineup. -
Something tells me you dont really rate Dack that much.

Leeds have finally found a good manager and this is probably their best chance in a very long time to go up as apart from WBA, the relegated teams from the PL are not looking like they will run the show and bounce back up. Stoke and Swansea I cannot see doing much more than perhaps challenging for the playoffs so this is a chance for at least 2 different teams to get up this time around. That said, you had a good start last time around and fell away so it will be interesting to see if you can prevent that happening this time. On the match, I think some of you lot are being a bit too confident. Sure, we have drawn far too many at home for our liking this season but we have lost something like 1 out of the last 50 at our place, so you shouldnt be thinking it will be a walk in the park like some of you lot do. We would take a draw though but obviously hope we can nick a win.
