  1. Indeed, a thought provoking look at what is happening within cricket at the moment. I watched The Hundred last night, mainly to see what all the fuss was about. I am an avid fan of the T20 format, especially the IPL and Big Bash competitions and I thought this latest “innovation” would grab my attention in the same way. Sadly, I just see it as just a watered down version of T20 with too many gimmicky changes for the sake of it - 5 bowl overs, two overs bowled from the same end etc. I am also a passionate Lancastrian, but I find it difficult to support a team called Manchester Originals, even if they are based at the home of Lancashire cricket. The ECB assume that throwing a shed load of money at this pantomime, more young people will become interested in cricket. Bollocks. I was involved in Junior Cricket long before these shorter versions came along. All the clubs in the area had very healthy groups of Under 11,13,15 and 18 players. But on top of that there were many youngsters, boys AND girls who turned up on a Friday evening just to have a knock about and a game of Kwik cricket. They didn’t need disco music or fireworks to entice them there, they came because they liked it, whatever their capabilities. So, instead of ploughing millions of pounds into a pointless competition which only benefits players bank accounts, channel that money into the local clubs around the country so they can provide better facilities for the local youngsters, the professional cricketers of the future.

  11. I was referring to what was said about him searching out van Dijk and Wanyama, (perhaps you missed that or chose to ignore it). If he was able to find anyone similar it would be good for the club.
  12. I think it’s fair enough for people to express their concerns regarding the appointment of Park and his connection to Mowbray. However, if the guy is as good at his job as reports say, then surely this is a positive move forward by the club. The main issue will be if he is allowed to carry out his job without interference from “the management”. We can only hope Tony has more important things to think about instead, like where to sit and still be able to have a snooze without being disturbed when supporters are allowed back.
  13. We had already had two songs based on group and love. Not much to work on with just deleter, I’m sure you will agree. Perhaps we all need updating on the “rules” of the thread.

  20. Bloody hell, mate. EastLancs are in enough trouble without wanting the loons to “invest” in them.
  21. Unfortunately, our club is being run by a bunch of charlatans so the usual expectations of fair play don’t exist in their thought process. The next step will be to change our club motto to “Bleed those suckers dry”
  22. Sorry, I didn’t have my glasses on 😳
  23. My sincerest sympathies to you, sir.
  24. Excellent. I have the full set of programmes for the 1974/5 season, including the the two hard to find newspaper ones. It was a cracking season, although I missed a chunk of it as I was working in Cornwall. I went to the Plymouth away game, travelling on a football special train from Penzance. It was a miserable return journey after losing 2-1, but less than two weeks later we had our revenge at Ewood, thumping them 5-2. I was working with an Argyle fan, listening to the scores on the radio. At 2-0 down I was getting some severe stick, but when we pulled a goal back I shouted across the kitchen in a fit of pique, that’s it, we’re going to knock in five now. The Argyle lad just laughed. He wasn’t laughing at a quarter to five.
