Tony Mowbray Discussion
Riverside under the drip replied to Neal's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I have been in favour of replacing the manager since we were promoted but always knew that this was purely a football decision and wished no ill will on the man who seemed decent. This week was when that totally changed. Can anyone honestly argue that the quotes from the last few interviews would look out of place coming from Kean's or Coyle's mouth? "It'll all get better in the *unspecified how long* future and we'll magically start winning consistently when all injuries stop and the players play exactly to my style." BOLLOCKS! -
Tony Mowbray Discussion

The pitch is an irrelevance. It is an issue for a couple of games. Just like an injury is an excuse that soon goes. There is always an excuse; always a reason why the journey isn't over yet and the manager needs another transfer window. There were those who insisted he should be given until January. Not this January. 2 years ago. The same points were made then as now. When will these people admit things have not worked and will not work out if he gets another 2 years? -

May I recommend the roads through mid-Wales rather than the motorways if it's an evening game? Glorious, Top Gear road test-style drive over the tops of the Beacons and the Neath Valley. -

In terms of the pitch, Rothwell injured his groin when the turf gave way. Enough said. As for my second home (8 years knocking around Brynmill and Uplands), I'd personally prefer you not to go up. This is for the purely selfish reason of wanting to go to the away game next year! -

A thought which amused me as I sat through that bilge was the idea of my plastic alter-ego boycotting the rest of the season. I could ask for it to be removed. Imagine the publicity if plenty of people did that (mental villainous mwah ha ha)... -
As I once said to some lads from Southampton, "Why would you pick us? Are you off your rocker?!" As someone whose earliest Rovers memories were whilst sat on my Mum's shoulders, a few words I'd take friendly issue with: 1. Should. We all know *should*. We all know Rovers don't hang with *should*. 2. Cups. Cup*s*. This is not the League Cup. This is the FA Cup. Abide with Me. Stanley Matthews. Matching suits. Dave Whelan breaking his leg. The Crazy Gang. That episode of The Detectives. 1884-6 and all that. It's written into football folklore in a way the league just isn't. Personally, I'd prefer Rovers to win the FA Cup than win another Premier League. Been there. Done that. Neither are going to happen any time soon but the magic of the cup is strong with this one. Side note, if we don't loan a player in time, why on Earth would you loan out your last, fit defender in Carter? We must be close.

Torn on Chapman... Cons: Undeniably, he hasn't progressed for his advancing age and clearly has an attitude problem. I would feel happier seeing Dolan's name in the 11. Pros: He has shown his ability this season in the first team given VERY limited chance. How much progression can you get when you don't play?! A bit of an ego is no bad thing and a refreshing change to the bland shower currently playing. Overall, I can't help but think his failure is 99% down to Mowbray and his pig-headed refusal to play out-and-out wingers. Best of luck to him as he rebuilds his career elsewhere.

Huddersfield Town Away
Riverside under the drip replied to philipl's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I've been watching for Bell leaving his position as he's often done that but the more obvious one is Nyambe! He seems to take up a defensive starting position in our box and leaves Elliott further out. Shortly before half-time he was in central midfield? It does seem like the coaching/tactics has resulted in EVERY player slightly out of position. The full backs are way up the pitch so the midfielders and centre backs are dragged out wide to compensate and leave space in the middle. They know this will happen so don't go all the way out wide and so don't get the winger OR the midfielder. Huddersfield can therefore pick out wingers or attacking midfielders and get to second balls on the edge of our box. -
Overall, an open game with both teams looking dangerous. Brereton really seems to have worked on his strength. Midfield very pedestrian. BJ off for Trybull please. Every opposition team will lick their lips when they see Bell in the team with a forward (a long way) in front of him. An open invitation to cross at will. Downing to come on out of panicked necessity. Nyambe equally leaves his wing but then has the gumption to get back there again when he is needed (the goal aside when the gaping holes were even more shocking than normal).

I'd buy the footballtown stuff any day but they're slim-fit and, well, I'm not... It does seem like the stock response at Rovers is: "We don't currently do that." or "We no longer stock that.". No thought or ingenuity and no-one willing to push themselves. The same attitude shows itself when cleaning up the surrounding area or initiatives to attract fans are suggested. Surely a little market research would tell them that fans want something a little different with a unique, Rovers look as per the unofficial sites mentioned. This site rarely goes a page without a bitter argument starting but each reply here seems to give the same desire. FORGET GROVELLING IN THE TELEGRAPH. GIVE US SOMETHING WORTH BUYING AND WE WILL GIVE YOU OUR MONEY!

Does anyone know when the next Zoom chat or whatever will occur for the Fans Forum? I'd love to know when the current commercial deal ends and if there are plans to change it. Are they aware how generic their offering is and how much more money they could take in if anything looked different to the stuff they sell in Matalan (unfair on Matalan; they do decent shirts)? The last time I had to spend my club cash it took me half an hour to find anything on their site even slightly appealing (in the end, I went for several bags of jelly babies, some cola bottles and a scarf which I got rid of without ever wearing). Every single t shirt was beige or navy dreariness with a crest attached. Why are blue and white halves such a rarity on our merchandise?! The pictures below illustrate the point. I'm partial so obviously picked out stuff to back my view but it is hard to find something genuinely attractive. I know that I could e-mail them myself but I also know that I would get a generic response: "We at Blackburn Rovers remain committed to providing our supporters with an attractive range of items" You can hear the person yawning as they type it...

I think the coverage of this match could easily be, by a long way, the worst viewing experience on my TV screen ever. Constant buffering was nowhere near as jarring as the grossly unprofessional cameraman zooming about the pitch, the replays designed to play whenever a chance occurred or the commentators endlessly banging on about nothing. I've no idea what they said as I tried my best to ignore them. Why are they able to collect an income for such tripe?! -

Is it just me or does anyone else despise 'engage with' or 'interact with' something when what you mean is usually mean is 'watch, listen or do'? -
If I'm honest, the loanee I most wanted straight in was Douglas in place of Bell. Can't understand why we identify a weakness in the team, sign an improvement, then keep playing the original duffer. Same goes for Evans after all these years of nothing in particular. Having said that, our best performances come with the least expectation. 1-2 it is...
