Athletic vs Betis One of the best games I've seen in a long time. How it finished 1-1 I don't know, Athletic should have been 5-0 up in the 1st half. Good to see two teams playing fast attacking football using proper wingers that take players on and get crosses into the box. Proper football.

They did that with the last lot. It got sent to one company and moved about before going to the club.

In 99 we spent more than anyone else in the division. Unfortunately there was a lot of ego problems that Hodgson couldn't, and has always struggled to deal with. We also spent huge amounts on players that were absolutely gash. Those two seasons are well worth forgetting. Simply awful.

This is what I have thought about him. He does seem to be good at playing knockdown balls to other players, see the Weimann goal against the unwashed. He's not getting anything to go off though, why he isn't playing with another up top that can feed off him I don't know. We're suffering from years of being completely gutted by the owners and it's all coming to fruition. Much the same way as successive governments have deliberately defunded the NHS for over 40 years and now it's reaching breaking point, many of us saw this coming from the outset, others swallow the bullshit year after year after year and end up shocked at the current state of affairs and start pointing the finger in every direction except the the actual cause of the problem.

Sorry but this is completely wrong. The funding from the walker trust was stopped in 2003 and we maintained a very successful period for nearly ten years after that simply through excellent management from top to bottom. We were never in a position where we were going to be fighting relegation, most of the time we were challenging for European places or cup finals. The ONLY reason we are in this division is because of venkys.

Fair do's. The truly meaningless games are the shit early round European games and the international friendlies or whatever they're calling them now. Make the Euro competitions two leg straight knock outs from the beginning and you'll get rid of the fixture congestion.

The league cup is not meaningless. Unless you're a super rich 'elite club' of course. Both these teams should be going full noise to win this game and get through to the next round. I see villa gave away a goal by 'playing the right way'.

As I've said many times before, if the goal is to just stay in business and plod along in this division then they may as well just shut the place down. Absolutely no point in existing if they're not at least trying to get BACK into the premier league.

So what's it going to be this year then? 'Forgot' to hit send? 'Accidentaly' submit the paperwork late? 'Misplace' some of the necessary parts of the contract? Don't get excited, we won't be signing anyone of note. It's not like we've brought in about £40 million over the last 12 months.
