It’s pretty obvious he wants away from Rovers. It seems to be just a question of when, where to and how much. -

We did, they saw us coming there. Rogers was infinitely better. -
I wonder if we’ll see yesterday’s tactic of playing a very high line and therefore forcing you to play most of the game in your own half will come into the men’s game ? There were long periods of play were Spain had all 10 outfield players in our half.

Henchoz was the one really good signing RoyBoy made amongst a lot of very average players.

You mean after leaving us ? Eamon Rogers was great, a David Dunn who could tackle as well. He was an attacking midfield player but he could play in most position. I saw him play as an emergency right back once and he looked like he’d played there all his life. -
If you’re going to side foot it - it’s got to be all along the the ground and in the corner. Going high down the middle works also.

I felt sorry for that Bommatti. Best player out there for me. I would have put my house on her scoring the pen but that was a tame effort. Too many side footed at a very saveable height. They’ll need to learn to put the laces through it.

The Spaniards I know aren’t particularly nationalistic. The pueblo or village comes first, then the regions. With our neighbours it’s Ugijar, Granada, Andalusia, then Spain last in thar order. Insult their village and you’re in big trouble ! Spain you can criticise. Living between Almeria and Granada they have no team of their own but they all either support Real or Barca. There are both club house’s in the village that have the games on but I haven’t been invited yet. Only one or two support Almeria, Granada or Malaga.

I think the captain had a good tournament. I also thought Lucy Bronze was a bit off the pace, then she tells the interviewer she was playing with a fractured Tibia !

We don’t seem to develop wrist spinners these days Chaddy. To be honest we didn’t develop many in the past. Off the top of my head I can only think of a few. One who played for Lancashire and England learnt his early cricket on the common I live facing - Tommy Greenhough. The old guys on here will remember him. It’s a difficult art to master. I tried as I kid and managed to get the leg break going sort of ok. Just for fun, I’d stick to what I knew in real games. Funny thing - when I leant to bowl the googly I lost the ability to bowl the leg break. Shane Warne was a freak. Probably the best spin bowler of all time. His level of accuracy was amazing for a wrist spinner.

Gilliver had a disc problem. He ended up seeing Frank Plumb, the chiropractor that I saw about my back years later. He advised him to have a disc fusion, which I think he did. He couldn’t bend his back very well after that but he could play. It’s no fun turning out with a disc problem. Martin Britt had been a star striker at West Ham, he scored 4 goals in the FA youth Cup final whilst being marked by no other than Liverpools Tommy Smith. However he’d got a bad knee injury before we signed him. Allegedly we’d tried to sign Colin Bell from Bury but he decided to go to City. So we went for Britt. He retired from the game after his time with us. He must have been about 21. Very sad. I saw an old photo of him looking really lonely on his own walking with a stick in Blackburn town centre. -

We made a good profit on him and he hardly played for Palace and drifted out of the game. -
They specialise in making bad decisions.

What do I know ?

Best footballing team lost but our women found a way again.
-
Very one sided. Two of the Spanish players should have had a card.
-
Spain must be spewing.
-
All Spain in extra time. The ref gave us nothing.
-
I’d have kept Russo on with Angymang.
-
When it comes to beating players nobody comes near Dougie.
-
Amoroso in and no Nelsen ?
-
Really hard one to call. I might change my mind now you’ve said that but Fred was another really top player. More skilful than Shearer but not as tough and hard to play against.

If it was a boxing match they’d stop it. They’re playing the game with all ten out field players in our half. When we win the ball we’ve 75 yards to run. When they win it they’re in the last third. They fitter, faster, winning most of the 50/50 balls. We look tired. Playing James was a bollock, she was obviously not fit. The coach will have to earn her corn now.

The player that caused the introduction of medicals was Alan Gilliver. A big centre forward who came from Huddersfield to Rovers with an on going back injury. We actually got £18,000 of the £32,000 fee back. We’d already had our fingers burnt when we signed another centre forward in Martin Britt from West Ham who came with a bad knee injury. He retired from the game after playing about a dozen games for us. Both looked really good signings before the injuries emerged. We should have paid Fred Pickering the money, We spent twice as much as we got for his fee trying to replace him. Jimmy Kerr was top class. I saw him play quite a few times for Bury at the time and he was a good ‘un. In the style of David Dunn. He also played about a dozen games before having to call it a day. Steve Agnew was another big signing that got injured immediately he signed for us. A classy midfielder, I think he played 1 game ! Another very good player who’s career was over right away. All of them were very promising young players who had to retire early. Such a shame
