  1. The manager hasn’t been born that could make a success story out of Rovers as long we have these owners. I just hope JDT doesn’t get the Lambert treatment off them.
  2. No I wasn’t a massive fan. Saw Rod Stewart, Long John Baldry, Clapton with John Mayall, Alexis Korner, Elton John with Bluesology, John Lee Hooker, Screaming Jay Hawkins Etc etc there. All the bands of the time. I missed the Little Richard gig because I couldn’t afford a ticket ! One of my fellow paper lads at the time was a big Pretty Things fan. He was busy tearing out a full page colour spread of The Pretty Things in of one of those pop magazines on the door step when the owner of the house opened the door !
  3. We’re crying out for a Gazza who can run with the ball instead of running after it.
  4. They played at the same venue a bit later on but I didn’t go to that show.
  5. It’s too early to say. Let’s see who we sign first. JDT will have his hands full trying to better last seasons position in my opinion. I’m hoping for better, more consistent over the whole season, performances though.
  6. Sell, while the going is good.
  7. I’m lost for words with England at the moment. Watching them play is like having teeth pulled. We’ll need a genius manager to get a tune out of those players in the World Cup and Southgate is about as far from a genius as you can get. “ Private Eye “ will be printing that old cartoon again. The players are filing down the steps from the plane at the airport, the pilot opens the cockpit window and says - “ Shall I leave the engines running lads ? “
  8. Yeah Bairstow and Stokes were in their element today. Hit out or get out. That’s their game. We need a batsman or two in the line up that can hang around in those games were you’re in a losing position and you need to grind out a draw.
  9. Our players weren’t bothered, Hungary’s certainly were. It was like watching Rovers play a team like Luton. A team versus eleven individuals.
  10. When you start the game with three yard dogs in midfield you’re not going to create that much. It’s like Rovers playing with three Lewis Travis’s in midfield.
  11. It’s like when they changed the kick off so now everybody just passes the ball backwards. Why did they change that ?
  12. We’ll win nothing with Southgate in charge. Just a younger version of Mowbray.
  13. That is without doubt the worst England performance I’ve seen in my lifetime and that’s 62 years of football. Beyond embarrassing. Worse than when we lost to bloody Iceland and Roy Boy resigned the next day, Southgate should do the same. As I said in another thread. - if they put the goals at the sides of the pitch instead of at the end when England play we might do better.
  14. Just been watching England. My idea, put the goals at the sides of the pitch instead of at the ends. We might score then.
  15. Let’s see if they can take them from the right place then. Normally it’s about 20 yards further up the pitch from where the ball went out. I would have thought that this rule will lead to more heading of the ball at a time when the authorities are trying to cut down. Any “ kick in “ within 30 yards of the corner flag will just be like another corner or free kick.
  16. I read somewhere that he’s bringing in Craig Bellamy as his assistant. Of all the guys he’s played with in his career he chooses Bellamy ? A really great player who was a total winner, but reading his autobiography, unless he’s changed with age he’d cause trouble in an empty house.
  17. Well we’ll see this time next year.
  18. He didn’t touch the ball that I can remember when we battered them not long ago.
  19. He’s a decent stand in right side centre back in a back 5 also. As long as we have somebody in there to win the headers.
  20. He could buy my magic beans instead.
  21. Ian Lawther, a Northern Ireland international centre forward we got from Sunderland. He was another good header of the ball, he had the happy knack of being able to hang in the air when the defenders were on their way back down. Scored a terrific opening goal in a 2-1 win at Ewood against the dingles. It’s over 60 years ago but I can still see it now. He latched onto a square pass about 25 yards out in the old inside right position at the Blackburn End. Out of nothing he hit a perfect shot right into the bottom corner. The old ball went like a bullet and it never went more than an inch or two off the ground. He seemed to get out of favour with Jack Marshall and with Fred Pickering and Andy McEvoy scoring for fun and John Byrom in the wings Ian was transferred to 2 nd Div Scunthorpe.
  22. I agree, that’ll be great business for the club shop putting that name on the replica shirts. How much is it per letter ?
  23. Yes we all live in hope that one day the Chokers will get something right. Maybe this is the time.
