  1. The cause of my most embarrassing moment in football. My youngest son and I were waiting for autographs outside the main stand. Jeff Kenna had just made his debut and had played well. I thought I saw him coming out so I said “ Well played Jeff, can my son have your autograph ? “ He replied “ You can have my autograph but I’m not Jeff “. When I looked at the autograph it was Tony Gale ! They do look a bit similar in my defence.
  2. It looked like Buckley started thinking “ this game is easy “ after a pretty good season last time out. It’s only easy when your hard work has made it easy. If he doesn’t learn that he’ll find the road downhill can be as rapid as the road leading upward. I like Whiteman and I would have signed him when we had the chance. He’s a very good player. Having said that at this moment in time I don’t think I’d swap him for Buckley. Buckley needs to take a look at the work rate of the two lads running the show in central midfield at the moment. He’s behind both of those and he could end up behind Mola. Maybe he should be polishing up his right back skills.
  3. Yes I agree. We can’t afford go on another journey in this league. Look at Hudds they missed out and they lost their two best players right away. That’s what happens. You’re continually having to replace your better players. You don’t get a chance to build a settled side over several seasons.
  4. They needed Dyke tonight. Great looping cross in from the right that led to the goal.
  5. WBA are going to struggle until they get a goalscorer onto the pitch.
  6. He’s not even nearly a centre forward. Play him out wide if we’re going to play him at all. It’ll be interesting to see if Hirst plays from the start tomorrow.
  7. Never mind the goal against Stoke what about the one at Fulham my mum could have kept out.
  8. You can count I presume. 6 comes after 5 and before 7.
  9. Nobody played well for six months, that’s why we went from second to nowhere.
  10. You don’t expect much do you ? Name me another player that played out of his skin for six months.
  11. I can think of one person who’ll be less than thrilled. Edit - make that two.
  12. Yes I agree with a lot that. Playing twice a week is demanding. Their stamina will have to be built up.
  13. Definitely, good tacklers don’t rely on strength, it’s a skill in it’s own right. It’s the size of what’s beating under the badge that counts most. How big was Nobby Stiles ? A pal of mine played against him as a schoolboy and he said being tackled by Nobby was like having an electric shock up your leg ! Wharton looks like he likes a tackle, that matters most.
  14. Simon played a bit further forward for us. He had less of a defensive role.
  15. He knows where the ball is going next before he even receives it. Not many players have that ability in this league as teenagers. He looks a very confident player. When he carried that ball to the edge of their box he had a simple left foot pass out to a player running on the right hand side. He had the confidence to use his weaker right foot to slip a very nice pass out to the left. Barker was a good penalty taker also.
  16. WBA will have to find a manager first.
  17. I only ever saw Fred have one game that would put him up there with Friedal. Away at the dingledome when we lost 1-0 to a disputed penalty. It would have been about 6-0 but for Fred, another game were the rest of them just didn’t turn up !
  18. You can do that when the opposition only has one real playmaker.
  19. As I said - more or less picks itself.
  20. Seeing him sat on the bench last spring kept the three lads out there playing on their toes.
  21. Nobody came up with the not unreasonable asking price and the lad didn’t make any waves about leaving. Do you like my new font ? My iPad obviously does.
  22. It’s still “ or Not “ for me.
  23. It’s a bit too early to say that. It’s a long and hard season in this league. The pitches towards the end of the season aren’t always conducive to passing football.
  24. I wouldn’t either. It sends out the wrong message. Play well and you get to sit on the bench. You should only get left out if you play poorly. Everybody understands that.
