  1. I’d give a lot to watch that game again. It was like playing the current City or Liverpool team off the pitch. Spurs were that good. Words can’t really do it justice, you had to be there. It was one of those game were you could have given every player a 10. Almost a once in a life time display. I was at the Forest game were we put 7 past them, that game was similar, only Forest weren’t in the same league as Spurs. Congrats on the Wigan win today, sounds like it was close at the end. I’ll be watching it later on catch up. I was watching my lot, they won 44-24.
  2. I’ve heard a manager not a million miles from where I live is going to Hartlepool. I think that might be below Mowbray.
  3. I need to clean my glasses, I thought that said “ Lack of class from the extreme wing of the Tory-out brigade”.
  4. Boo hoo, one thing you need out there is pace.
  5. I’ve possibly been his biggest critic but that is no way to treat anybody. He deserves better from his employers.
  6. Do you mean 1968-71 ? 1963, 64, 65 we were brilliant lots of the time.
  7. It’s a poor show that we’ve come to the last match of the season and not a peep out of the Chicken Chokers.
  8. I hope he does well but I’d be surprised if he gets off their bench next season. He.’s not ready yet. Just my opinion of course.
  9. Working on a players crossing should be a lot easier than working on their sprinting speed.
  10. We haven’t even mentioned the 7-2 banging we gave them.
  11. I was brought up on the likes of Fred Pickering. Watching Barry Endean and Bryan Conlon wearing the same shirt was tough. As was watching Fred himself when he came back at the end of his career. Nearly as sad as seeing the magical Bryan Douglas coming on as a sub at the end of his time.
  12. Yeah, it was real bollock selling Byrom. We spent a fortune on strikers after he left and all the time he was banging in the goals for Bolton. West Ham must have hated him, he always filled his boots against them, and Bobby Moore.
  13. May 20th 1963. Att 22,867. Rovers Else Bray, Newton Clayton, Woods, England Douglas, Ferguson, Pickering, Byrom, Harrison scorers Ferguson 2, Harrison 1 I forgot to mention the other two young up and coming lads who were also brilliant that night. Keith Newton and Mike England. The future was really bright. Today they’d all have been poached away for a pittance after a few games. Back then at least we hung on to them long enough to get some serious money for them. Newton - British transfer record for a full back. England - British transfer record for a defender. Pickering - British transfer record between two British clubs. Only Dennis Law and Jimmy Greaves had been transferred for more when the both returned from Italian clubs. I was at the Bury game. We played like we’d been celebrating all week. Maybe we had.
  14. Last match of season 1962-3, Spurs at home. As I was making my way home from school I passed the local coach companies office and I saw a bill board advertising a coach trip to that nights game. Blackburn Rovers v Spurs. Such was the attraction of Spurs nationally they were running a coach from Rochdale to the match ! Spurs arrived having just won the European Cup Winners Cup the previous week. They really were the team of all the talents. Before the game the Spurs team paraded the cup around Ewood to polite applause. From memory it was a bloody huge trophy. Then the Rovers set about them like men possessed. Rovers won in a canter 3-0, Ferguson 2 and Harrison being the scorers. What was then the forward trio, 8,9,10 - Ferguson, Pickering, Byrom , all really young local players, played brilliantly. I remember thinking as I made my way back to the coach, “ the futures in good hands at Rovers “.
  15. If Everton do go down, as they well might, they’d need someone with previous experience of promotion.
  16. The only drawback there is he was managing Watford before and got fired. I could possibly see him going to Everton if they go down.
  17. We all know that things change in football overnight. If somebody had come on here back in the day and said he’d heard Roy Keane was signing for us he would have been right. Did Roy Keane sign ? We all know the answer to that one. Anybody wants to come on here with stuff they’ve heard - as far as I’m concerned, feel free. On the other hand I feel free to take them seriously or not.
  18. Keane was a truly great player but to say he’s mellowed is stretching things. He’s gone from being a psycho to just a nut job. Would I prefer him to Mowbray - too right. It would be an interesting 3 months.
  19. I’ve got a bit of advice for them “ If you don’t want incompetents to fuck the job up, don’t employ incompetents “, it’s not really that difficult.
  20. Does anybody get to play where they prefer under Mowbray ?
