I’m not Gallagher’s biggest fan but he would be faster than Ward running backwards. -

Sounds like they got knocked about a bit like we did. Speaking of Luton what’s the latest on Edun ? There hasn’t been much about him since he got kicked out of the game down there. -

What did he do at Rovers ? - Not a lot. -

Interesting. There’s obviously going to be a debate as to which system to play on Saturday given the game of two halves on Tuesday. I wonder which way Mowbray will jump. I’m just a bit concerned about the fullbacks, Lenihan isn’t a natural right back and Pickering hasn’t really got going since his return from injury. It’s a shame both of Nyambe and Edun are injured. -

I get the feeling he doesn’t much like physical contact. -

I was saying on another thread Gallagher managed to get himself up against an opponent a foot shorter for the goal. Good play on our part, bad on Derby’s. Gallagher reminds me of Devon Malcolm. Somebody has to get him angry before he really gets stuck in. For those who don’t know cricket Malcolm was an amiable fast bowler who couldn’t bat to save his life. In a game against South Africa they made the mistake of bowling bouncers at him against the unwritten rule at the time that you don’t bounce non batters. He got hit a couple of times. I thought at the time” Mm, I wouldn’t do that if I were you “. When it was South Africa’s turn to bat Malcolm absolutely roared in bowling like a man possessed. He had them all out in no time and he had figures of about 8 for 30 ! I never saw him bowl quite like that again. Somebody had to get him mad first. -

Thanks as always Tony. We’re you tempted to give up at half time ? -

That was a decent header but did you notice how tall the guy he was jumping against was ? Gallagher must have been a foot taller. -

I was reading about Andy McEvoy earlier. He played for Rovers on the Saturday and scored twice then he travelled to Dublin to play for the Republic of Ireland on the Sunday and scored another two ! -

What’ll be really annoying if we don’t go up is that the team that does won’t be any better than we are.- 3043 replies

I thought the opinion at the time on Hedges was a bit underwhelming. Quite a few saying he wouldn’t be good enough, a few others saying he would be. There certainly wasn’t a groundswell of opinion clamouring to sign him. -

Sounds like there was a showdown at halftime. They should have bound and gagged Tony and put him in the kit skip. -

Cook’s been their “ Kevin Moran “ figure though. I thought he was outstanding when they came to Ewood. -

I’m running out of patience with Khadra, what did we bust a gut in signing Hedges for ? -

Yeah, terrific cross. You can’t really coach that into players. It’s knowing just where to put that ball. -

Khadra’s not doing himself any favours at the moment. He’s really lacking in football intelligence. I remember when Matty was here at first, he was another one who held onto the ball too long at times. 6 months with Souey and the penny had dropped and he was on the way to becoming the brilliant all around striker he later turned into. Ton Finney told a story about when he was a young player. He was always trying to beat the extra man and losing the ball. One of the trainers got another player to stand 30 yards away and said to Tom “ You reckon you can beat me in getting the ball over to Jimmy over there, shall we have a small wager ? “ Tom said “ Yes I’m on , I’m pretty sure I can “ . So the trainer said “ On the count of three, one -two-three- go “. Before Tom had gone 4 yards dribbling the ball the trainer had just passed the ball to the other player and said “ I win “. -

Like anybody you have to play to his strengths to get the best out of him. As far as I can see his strength is running on to passes delivered into space. Playing the ball up to his feet is a waste of time.
