  1. I would have stayed with 4 at the back. We’re playing Morecambe not West Brom. Kaminski Nyambe Carter Lenihan Pickering Buckley Travis Rothwell Dolan Brererton Butterworth
  2. I think that was a “ tongue in cheek “ remark and not in any way serious.
  3. Yes he was top class.
  4. I see Haseeb Hameed is back in consideration for the Test team along with Moeen Ali.
  5. Full backs are normally quicker than centre halves. That’s why Armstrong likes playing up the middle rather than out wide.
  6. Didn’t Jeff Kenna come from Southampton ? He was a good signing.
  7. He signed at the start of the 1966-67 post relegation season from Preston replacing Fred Else. We spent the Mike England money on Barton, Barry Hole and Alan Gilliver. 1966-67 season he played in all 46 games league and cup. 1967-68 season he played 33 games sharing the job with Adam Blacklaw. 1968-69 season he played 3 games with Adam Blacklaw the No 1 keeper playing the rest. 1969-70 season he played he played 9 games with Adam Blacklaw playing 32. We’d signed Roger Jones later on in that season and Barton was released. I didn’t realise he played so many games. He was short and stocky, and I’m being kind when I say stocky. He looked like he was a test pilot for “ Holland’s “.
  8. Brett Ormerod is a good comparison.
  9. We didn’t have a “ suitable replacement “ when we sold him. Walton was probably the worst keeper we’ve had in my lifetime.
  10. The only question I can see is how much profit will Brentford make when they finally sell him. Of course we’ll have put a good sell on clause in our deal won’t we ?
  11. I think you’re right to be unconvinced about Armstrong at the top level. At our level he needs about 4 good chances per goal scored and I don’t think he’ll get that many chances at top level. He’s not shot shy in any way, in fact he pulls the trigger from distance too often. Heading ability is ordinary. Pretty quick pace wise but not lightening fast. One on one with the keeper, I could be wrong ,but I can’t remember him ever scoring. If I had to put my house on him being a success in the prem I’d say no but I hope he proves me wrong as he always did his best for Rovers.
  12. Why did why buy Davies when we already James Beattie ? Some managers aren’t as smart as they think they are.
  13. The place I was working at got a cast iron inspection table from Foster, Yates and Thom when it closed. I was over there years later when the site was occupied by a company that did export packaging. I was chatting to one of the young lads there and we got on to wages. I said “ How much do they pay you here ? “ The lad replied “ About 80 pints a week “.
  14. He had pace to burn at our level, the Prem is a lot quicker all round.
  15. Welcome to the BRFC convalescent ward.
  16. I agree, Ings is a much better all round forward. I’m not convinced Armstrong has what it takes to make it at the very top, he’s too one dimensional for me.
  17. No point getting bent out of shape about the transfer fee. If we see any of it I’ll be amazed.
  18. I put GMR on at 3-00 pm hoping for some Rugby League commentary. For some reason they were running an interview with the new Bolton manager. He’s a very ambitious and impressive guy. Let’s see if he can turn things around again this season. ” Where do you want to be in five year Ian ? “ - “ In the Premier League, hopefully with Wanderers “. ” Hand on heart where do expect Wanderers to finish this season Ian ? “ - “ Promoted again “ What a difference in attitude and approach to the game.
  19. You might incur added charges buying from the EU nowadays. I’ve read stories of people having to pay surcharges on goods being imported from abroad.
  20. Anybody seen Smallwood’s goal at PNE ? Two deflections and it crept in by the far post. Great. The lad Rathbone, son of Mick “ Basil “ Rathbone, who were supposed to be interested in came on as a sub for Rotherham yesterday in their 2-0 home defeat of Plymouth. One to watch ?
  21. People will come again if A) We win. And They feel they’ve seen an entertaining game. Yesterday ticks both boxes.
  22. There’s losing, and then there’s getting dicked 4-1 playing a newly promoted team in your first game at home after opening the scoring . If Carlsberg did losing that’d be it.
  23. If you’re drinking Amstel you wouldn’t notice any difference. It’s all just fizzy water.
  24. I was at that Villa game.
