  1. He could take it around the keeper if he had to. He needs to show Armstrong how to do that.
  2. I remember watching his team in Italy. He had Javier Zanetti, Ince, another top international, could have been Djorkaeff and Aaron Winter in midfield and they were awful to watch.
  3. We could see if they’ll take Evans in a straight swap.
  4. I only wear old shirts anyway, the new shirts have been crap for years.
  5. My mate went his son who’d be about 10 or 11 at the time. The lad was terrified. Neither of them ever set foot in t’ Turf again.
  6. My mate reckoned the Celtic fans broke the iron railings up and were throwing them like javelins ! I don’t know if that’s true or not.
  7. For one reason or another he’s not been a regular starter for Shrewsbury although when he’s played he’s usually done something. From what bit’s I’ve seen he’s not been playing as a winger but more in the Dack style of position. I think the injuries he’s had have robbed him of that explosive pace he once had. To be honest I think Shrewsbury is his level now.
  8. I remember travelling up to Scotland one Saturday morning. We lost count of the Rangers coaches going up to Glasgow on the motorway. Most of them seemed to be from Merseyside.
  9. A pal of mine who was a bit of a floating football fan was at that game, he never went on’t Turf again.
  10. You know and I know that players who can carry the ball from inside your own half to the last third beating people on the way are priceless. They’re murder to play against if you’re a defender. Rothwell can do that, he just doesn’t do it often enough. I don’t know the lad but it strikes me as though that’s just the way he is.
  11. What do you think we’d get for him this summer ? For me he doesn’t impose himself on the game enough.
  12. Who’s going to pay big bucks for “ 1 good game in 5 “ Joe Rothwell ? Blow Johnson and Bennett out if they want to fund a big pay rise for Armstrong.
  13. You could count on the fingers of one hand the decisions they’ve got right in over ten years. That takes some doing. That success rate in their chicken choking business would have closed it years ago. If they’d have tossed a coin each time they would have got more right.
  14. Yes, a typical Mowbray style signing, a nice lad who won’t make any waves.
  15. You must eyes like a shit house rat !
  16. It all depends on when the ball was played. The Chelsea lad was really motoring onto that ball. I’d be gutted if that was a Rovers goal disallowed.
  17. Who else at a decent level would sign either of those two . Shrewsbury is about it for either of them.
  18. How long has being level been off-side ? Having said that I’m glad there wasn’t extra time, I’ve got a fence that needs another coat of creosote.
  19. Yes, you’re correct, he was a right winger den. He came down from the North East at roughly the same time as David Holt, Dick Mulvaney and Billy Wilson.
  20. A bit of rain should help your passing game. That’s why clubs have the sprinklers on before the game and at half time.
  21. Exactly, get rid of Johnson and Bennett and bring in an experienced midfielder that’s still got a few years left in the tank.
  22. Sorry, the 50’s is before my time and I’ve never seen his name mentioned in any stuff from the 60’s. That doesn’t mean he didn’t play. For example 29 players played for that reserve team in the photo in that season.
  23. David Holt was a centre half who came up through the ranks. He played 5 first team games towards the end of the 1965-66 relegation season and 5 more at the beginning of the following season. I think he came from the North East and I think he packed the game in as a young player to get a proper job. Martin Hall was a reserve right back who never made it into the first team. Could line up like this - Jones. Hall, Mulvaney, Holt, Wilson. Horrey, McGrath, Rogers. Blore, Anderson, Jones
  24. Back row - Reg Blore, Dick Mulvaney, George Jones, Ben Anderson, David Holt, Roland Horrey. Front row - Mick McGrath, Martin Hall, Mr A. Duckett, Bob Jones, Billy Wilson, Eamon Rogers. I knew who the players were but I had to look up who the director in the suit was.
  25. Ronnie and Bryan were on the way down by then and big Fred had left a couple of years ago.
