  1. Sadly that's how I see it panning out. A team of well organised, motivated triers will beat a more skillful but disorganised and unmotivated team 9 times out of 10 I'm afraid.
  2. If you'd have had a list of the 50 most likely candidates for the Rovers job at the time I'd bet his name wouldn't have been on it.
  3. I'd say a decent manager will get half of his signings right. A really good manager will get up around the 70% mark right. Dack and Armstrong are undoubted success stories, After that there is very long list of players who regularly blow hot and cold, Holtby, Johnson, Brererton, Rothwell, etc followed by a fairly long list of players who have flopped. If I have more time later I'll list them all.
  4. Well they did make one appointment that on the surface seemed logical. That was the appointment of the Lambert, Irvine, and the other guy who's name I always forget, team. Then they pulled the plug on the finance !
  5. Our new style of play could be marketed as a cure for insomnia.
  6. Or lost the power of speech. All it needed was a shout. What Douglas was doing there is a mystery. That's the second goal we've conceded when he's turned his back on the ball.
  7. I can't see how anybody can think he's done well in the transfer market. He's got a very long list of duds that ends at the moment with Douglas but began with Whittington, Caddis, Gladwin etc etc. Time for another Mowbray " in or out " poll I think.
  8. I haven't wrote it off either. We haven't got to 50 points yet.
  9. There's " running " and "RUNNING " mate. I know the difference when I see it.
  10. Saturday's opening goal was a classic example, schoolboy under 11 team defending. The player facing the ball - put your name on it and if you can't head it clear head it high so at least you can get another attempt at clearing it.
  11. I think with Big Sam going there he's more likely to hold on to him to be honest. They'll have a lot of defending to do before the end of the season. Quote from Sam Johnstone after yesterdays draw at Anfield. - "Everyone knows what the manager is like. He has come in and changed things very quickly and the lads are reacting to it. We dug in deep, we ran for 94 minutes, it was tough at times but it was a great point away from home. It feels more like a win " What I wouldn't give for a Rovers team that runs for 90 odd minutes. That effort reduced Liverpool to two attempts on goal in the whole game.
  12. Bowyer was taking us down. If we persist with Mowbray ultimately he'll take us down once the fire sale starts.
  13. The next lines are - " They think it's all over. It is now ! "
  14. Regarding this season - " The fans are on the pitch ". You should know what comes next.
  15. I don't buy into this " squad of great players " story. I think we've got a lot of very inconsistent players who'll always be inconsistent players. 8/10 one week 4/10 next week. We could do with some who are 6/10 every week.
  16. I wasn't impressed with the way we only seemed to play for 30 minutes ( 40 minutes max ) per game in our promotion season. Most of the time we were poor starters then also. That was usually good enough to get a result at that level but obviously it's nowhere near good enough at this level. I've said before that I would have been actively looking for another manager at the end of that season, I've never had much regard for our current manager.
  17. I was texting my youngest son after the game. He usually sends me his opinion after watching our games. His reply tonight was - " I didn't see it, we watched Villa and Palace ". That's a Rovers fan of 30 years and my grandson who's also started out as a fan.
  18. Anybody watching the " Nostalgia " thread ? Just look at the difference Mike Newall made to the way we were playing.
  19. Nobody has " performed out of their skin " for Rovers this season. That's the problem.
  20. How many do you think would still be turning up to watch this rubbish if it wasn't BCD ? I reckon gates would be down to about 8 or 9,000 by now. Well on the way to the Chicken Chokers end game - shrink the fan base to a point were they can shut up shop without too much of a fuss.
  21. 1/6 for me. 1/3 at Old Trafford the first time I went there watching us.
  22. There was a photo in the papers the day after that innings of Close with his shirt off. His torso was a mass of cricket ball shaped bruises. On some of the bruises you could see the seam ! I've seen lots of better innings but I don't think I've seen a braver one. He was only wearing a cap, no helmets then. What the umpires were thinking of I'll never know, somebody could have easily been killed. They were watched as 4 or 5 short pitched balls an over were sent down and did nothing.
