  1. Playing King alongside Gestede would have meant opposing teams having to play ten yards deeper to counteract King's pace. As it was with Rhodes and Gestede they could push right up on us because they knew neither of them would win the foot race against 90% of centre backs.
  2. What and have to wear flares again ! Not that I ever did !
  3. I watched the Argentina V England game this morning. Much as I'd love us to win it I just think we'll fall short. Too many needless penalties and dropped balls. I hope I'm wrong.
  4. I was always a " Puma " fan myself. I remember saving up my paper round money to buy my first really good pair of boots. Just like ones Keith Newton was wearing at the time. I'd travelled into Manchester to a sports shop that was on John Dalton street and owned by an old ex Man City player. When I found the boots of my dreams they were £5-0-0 and I only had £4-10-0 ! The owner must have seen how disapointed I was and he said " I'll tell you what son, take the boots and bring me the missing ten bob next week ". Can you see that happening now ? Regarding trainers I got a really early pair of Adidas in the mid 1960's. Nobody else had any. They were pale blue and i think the name was " ROM ". Anyway we'd be playing one night and we went for a drink after the game. I was still wearing the trainers and when I walked into the pub everybody turned around and stared at me like I had two heads ! Nobody wore trainers casually then, especially in a pub. How things have changed !
  5. I'm not saying Graham is finished at all. However when you get in your early 30's the decline can be pretty rapid.
  6. I expect us to get out enthused as usual.
  7. That was RoyBoy's failing.
  8. Our lack of size could hurt us defending corners and free kicks into our box. Having said that we aren't great at that anyway. Why we never have Armstrong or Rothwell stood on the half way line at Corners I'll never know. The opposing team would have pull two players back to mark them, just leaving one with them is risky. They're not much use at defending crosses but a big boot out of defence and they'll be a goal threat. Another thing about modern coaching I don't get.
  9. I was comparing King with Rhodes. Look where King is playing now and where Rhodes is playing now. As a matter of fact where is Rhodes playing now ? One's doing it every week in the Prem and the other one has never done anything at a higher level than where we are now.
  10. The thing about Dack is he's either brilliant or mediocre. There doesn't seem to be a half way house. Teams have learnt if you mark him really closely he struggles to impose himself on the game. Nothing new there, most players don't like being man marked. And when he struggles, Rovers struggle. That vital link between attack and defence isn't there anymore.
  11. Depressing read. What must the players think ? I't's like when you meet an old friend in the street and they say " Are your Ok pal ? You're looking a bit tired ". A minute ago you were feeling on top of the world, now you're not !
  12. Yes he was, I'd briefly forgotten about him. He was up there with Gestede and Fryatt. Best header of a ball we ever had was Mike England, He was 6' 3" and he could really jump but he wasn't normally a striker. . Regarding lower league goalscorers - Henderson at Rochdale has a brilliant record inspite of playing in a very average team and not always being used as a striker. . I'd have signed him a couple of seasons ago but I think that ship has sailed because of his age now though.
  13. Watching Rovers can damage your mental heath. That should be printed on the tickets.
  14. From what I remember of the Preston game you could have dropped the lot of them and nobody could have complained. Lenihan had a real nightmare that afternoon as well.
  15. We're carrying about 6 players more than we need at the moment.
  16. Nah, he'd have had Rhodes on the left wing and King on the right. I've seen a few decent strikers over the years for Rovers who could head the ball but only Jim Fryatt comes near to Rudy in the heading department. He was exceptional.
  17. For me the number of " Rovers 0 " scores at half time tells you all you need to know. When did we last give it a real go for more than a half ?
  18. I think he may be " Sparks Rovers " favourite to take over there.
  19. If you were a centre half who would you rather have to mark - King or Rhodes ? Rhodes every time for me. He won't out run me and he won't hurt me.
  20. 10/10. Exactly how I feel. Nobody at the club is busting a gut to win games. When did we last out enthuse a good opposing team ? I mentioned it before but listening to Mowbray after last weekends game it sounded like he'd just discovered a hole in his sock not that we'd just blown a great chance to get into the play off zone.
  21. I read an article about him towards the end of last season. He's had a lot of injury problems apparently. I'd have the Rudy we sold to Villa back in a flash but sadly that's no longer an option.
  22. A real football chairman will have an idea of who he wants next even if he's happy with the current manager.
  23. I agree Chaddy, Bennett is bound to play but I'd be surprised if both of Downing or Armstrong start on Saturday
  24. We've got people occupying the seats but what use are they ?
  25. Isn't he a character in " The Jungle Book " ?
