  1. I think that it's more likely that a system of taxing on mileage done will replace the current tax system.
  2. What time are you planning to get up? Kick-off will be at 11.45am Mexico time.
  3. That preview could easily have been mine, albeit many years earlier. I went to Sheffield in October 1971 to university, also describing my trip as missionary work. I stayed on in 1974 first driving a van and then got a graduate post which then got me transferred first to the West Midlands but only 9 months later back to Liverpool and then back to living at home. If I had taken a different job I might still be there. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there and met the lady who is now my wife. In Freshers week in 1971 a few of us went to Hillsborough with some free tickets to see Wednesday and I still have a soft spot for them because of that. One of those who went that day was and is a Sunderland supporter (he was hard to live with in 1973) (and he also worked pretty much all his working life for the Midland Bank and is still in Sheffield). Two of the others didn't really have a team but have been Wednesday season ticket holders for most of the intervening period. I felt a deep connection with Tony Field's career. Going to school in Ormskirk a few of us regularly went to watch Southport when they played home games on a Friday night so I saw him develop there before moving to Ewood. Then he moved to United whilst I was in Sheffield. Then later in the 70s I saw him play for New York Cosmos when visiting my brother-in-law. On pubs I spent a lot of time in the Red House on Solly St in the mid 70s, even playing in their darts team at the time. That was a time when finding a decent pint was a lot more of a challenge. Sadly I see it closed in 2016.
  4. It's on page 5 of the Sports section in a short piece about postponed games. They got it right on the results page near the back.
  5. Today's Observer says that the game needed a pitch inspection before going ahead. Any idea what the score was?!
  6. Millwall’s CEO is clearly blaming the referee - https://www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/2022/february/millwall-ceo-criticises-postponement-decision/
  7. I have more or less discounted a Tesla for 4 reasons: - 1. Poor reliability record 2. It seems most functions need you to use the screen rather than knobs or sticks from the steering wheel - I would feel uncomfortable with that. 3. And the biggest one for me - it's a saloon so you can't put the back seats down to make a big boot and I wouldn't be able to get my bike in easily. 3. Elon Musk is a kn*b.
  8. Obviously it will take time for electric cars to become old enough and cheap enough for many. But already you can get a used Zoe 8/9 years old for around £7K. No doubt still out of range of many but you do have to add on the vastly cheaper running costs.
  9. Just arrived home now. Our next Forum is on Tuesday and I will reissue an agenda this afternoon with a new item about today's game. I'm not sure there will be much need for grilling though having heard Steve's interview on Radio Lancs on the way back - he and the club are clearly as pissed off with the referee as we all are. The feeling on Radio Lancs was that the ball was not bouncing high enough in certain spots because of some lying water, although everyone seemed to be of the opinion that the pitch was in better condition than for Preston. Given conditions in that game improved markedly in the second half the sensible decision would have been to delay the kick off to 3.30 or 4pm, by which time I'm sure the conditions would have been fine. Right now there is not a cloud in the sky in Penwortham. Steve also said that he had instructed the kiosks to give all the Millwall fans some free food and drink before they set off home. He admitted it was only a small gesture but it was good to hear.
  10. As far as I can see the Met Office forecast has been spot on today - rain/sleet turning to snow for a bit before stopping between 12 and 1 and warming up a bit.
  11. Well nothing's gone wrong yet after 4.5 years. In general maintenance costs are much less than ICE as there are far fewer parts to go wrong.
  12. Well if Forest are out of form when the rearranged match takes place they won't be an issue for us will they? Both sides are competing with us.
  13. I think it's excellent for Rovers. Bournemouth now have to fit three more games into the remaining weeks of the season so will be playing twice a week for most of the time.
  14. It is in Preston too now, but it's forecast to stop in a couple of hours. I can see many of the 471 Millwall fans not making it today.
  15. What have you got Gav? We have had a Renault Zoe as a second car for 4.5 years and we use it for the majority of the time - it's just wonderful. We also have a petrol car that is due to be replaced in September and I will be getting another electric and like you I can't see me ever buying another petrol or diesel car.
  16. It's already on the agenda and in general terms it has been for a number of meetings.
  17. There is plenty of rain forecast tomorrow but with gale force winds that shouldn't be too much of an issue. What could be is that rain is forecast from 12pm to 6pm on Saturday i.e. right across the game. The ground sits in the bottom of a valley so a lot of rain in a short time is going to be an issue whatever the quality of the pitch.
  18. Was it empty Gav? I don’t know, but it didn’t look empty to me, either when it came on to the pitch or when Johnson threw it back.
  19. I think it's possible to easily predict where there is going to be trouble at away games. I've been to 4 away games so far this season - Stoke, Bournemouth, Wigan and Luton. The only game that was really messy was Wigan - cheap tickets and a short easy journey by train. Bournemouth and Luton both miles away with a small allocation snapped up by regular ST holders, no problem at all. Stoke somewhere in between but I don't recall any issues. You can almost guarantee that there will be problems when we go to Deepdale and maybe Birmingham if the game is important The issues in NO1 I didn't know about until I read above. There doesn't seem to be an issue looking at it from my seat in the JW Upper. But if there is a situation where fans from elsewhere in the BE Lower are moving into the top of NO1 to get into the singing area then that's an issue that needs sorting out. As Darrenrover says I wouldn't want to demonise fans who just want to make a noise and support the team so we need to find them somewhere to go where they won't upset fans who have sat (or stood) in NO1 since the stand was built. This Saturday would be the perfect time to let them go en masse into the Darwen End where there will be plenty of space and they won't upset other ticket holders.
  20. QPR now have 5 points from the last 5 and the only win was against Reading.
  21. I presume that they won't be un less they bring more than 1,500 (very unlikely) or we sell more than 2,500 (again unlikely). Although you would imagine that most of those buying tickets will buy in the Darwen End unless they can't make the QPR game anyway.
