That would be a good system to follow - give each manager two 'challenges' (in American Football terms, that's a red flag that they throw onto the field). If they challenge say a red card and are deemed to be correct, then they retain said challenge. If they're deemed to be incorrect both times they challenge then they cannot challenge anymore. Obviously though they'd have to limit what you could challenge - probably to dismissals (both a second yellow [and if the first one wasn't a bookable offence, then tough because the player should have controlled themselves], or a straight red), handballs and contentious goals. You'd probably have to add fouls in the penalty area to that too. It would slow down the game, but at this point in time I'd be all for that as officiating is beyond a joke right now. As long as the correct decision is reached. -

All controversies aside, I'm pretty happy with a point at home. With the way our squad is stretched we're going to struggle to stay up this year. I think we will, but there's not a lot of difference between the teams after the top four. A bit of luck, a rash of injuries, a purple patch - that's, essentially the difference between sixth and lurking near the relegation zone. At the moment we're bang out of form, have injuries to the hilt and are getting no luck. Hopefully all this will change after Christmas, but up until then we just need to pick up the points where we can and cut down on conceding goals. The back four looked pretty solid tonight, I'd be tempted to stick with it for Thursday. -

And they have how many Rovers Sunday matches to choose from this season to show on SKY? Crazy decision - though I suppose we can't afford to turn down the money with our fan base. -

Can anyone explain to me why this game is on a Sunday? It seems pretty pointless to me. It's my second home match of the season I have to miss due to other commitments. Not a happy bunny. -

Apparently Hughsey is the dullest man on the face of the earth. Not that it detracts from his managerial skill. -
Neither Bentley or Pedersen have any speed. The difference is Bentley has shown the ability to trick his way past a player. Perhaps more helpful, when his close control isn't on top form, is that he has obtained that Beckham-eque quality of being able to put in a good cross without actually beating his man. Pedersen on the other hand always hits his marker in said situation. As for lack of pace in the team, well Bellamy masked just how slow the squad is last year. It's been a problem since the Souness days. Unfortunately pace is a valued commodity, so unless we get the quick players young, or indeed old, we don't have much chance of signing a decent one. That said, we're missing the pace of Reid in midfield - three of the current starting four are incredibly slow, which (as rover6 highlighted) stunts our attacks.

Well his contract has six months to run (in the next transfer window) and he's publically stated that he won't re-sign with the team. Anthing we get for him would be a bonus. -

He was alright yesterday, but once again he had no support from midfield. He won a few knock downs, only for a red shirt to gobble up the second ball. On a negative note, the workrate from the front two is nothing short of abysmal. Defending starts from the front. Perhaps Hughes should have a word with Benni and Nonda. -

He was asking for it though, with those comments. -
Didn't the keeper get to that one first? As for Riley, well he didn't send Van Der Sar off for a handball outside of his area, so he had a poor game in my book.
-
Not the defence's fault the midfield was overran, again.
-
Marwood just went on about Giggs helping out his team and defending, covering Bentley minutes after having an attacking run. He failed to mention that Bentley had a free cross if he doesn't slip, Giggs was nowhere near him. Sky commentary is a joke, plain and simple. Their goal was against the run of play, but you pays your money you takes your chances as they say. Eventually the gulf in quality was going to show.
-
Yeah, it's pretty tough listening. Ronaldo needs to try staying on his feet, likewise Saha. Nobody has mentioned that you could have bought the entire Rovers team for Carrick - they've just constantly reiterated how great United are and how much they've dominated. In fairness we've created nothing, which is worrying as their midfield has the defensive capabilities of Tugay.
-
United are resorting to diving now. Judging by the commentary United should be 20-0 in front. Judging by the pictures it should perhaps be 1-0, though they've failed to break us down.

I remember the initial frenzy over the Cole signing - y'know, before his tea pot imitations started to get on everyone's nerves. You'd probably be able to magnify that event by 10 with Beckham. Not that it will happen though. -

Right now the injury list is so long that we have to get back to basics - i.e picking up points every game and becoming hard to beat again. It's tough to argue that a 4-5-1 formation isn't good at that. Still, the media (Talksport and the like) would immediately revive the Bully Boys tag. -

Another good transfer window signing. I'm sure he was world class earlier in his career before his injury (all that skill and movement combined with devastating pace). Right now he's just good, with the potential to be very good if he gets in a vein of goal scoring form. -

The Chelski Carling Cup game team is looking sillier and sillier. We're clearly absolutely shattered - moreso with the ridiculous injury list we have, yet Hughes has continued to play his first team every match. -

Coincidentally, Jewell seems to have got the best out of him. That being said, it's very much just a point him in the right direction and tell him to run managerial style, but it's worked! -
Which allowed Tugay the time and space for a shot. If you noticed he was looking for a pass before settling on shooting. Much like with Bentley earlier in the half, the Basel defence just backed off and said "Go on then mate, if you score from there fair play to you." Obviously Tugay, being an utter legend, took up the challenge. As for the game itself, well credit to Basel, they were extremely well organised and very tidy on the ball. They were the far better team in the first half, we couldn't get near them. The lad with the fluorecent boots (Petric?) was a bit of class - especially when he skinned Milk Float MkII with absolute ease in the second half. We probably should have taken a draw from that game. If I was a Basel fan I'd have been dissapointed - they stifled our attack and created a fair number of good chances. They were unlocked by a bit of magic though, and from then on we never looked back as they had to abandon their shape. As for the Mokoena abuse, I'm not sure why that's come about. He's not the most technically gifted footballer, and he's awkward in a four man midfield, but he came on yesterday and did a job. We're going to have to rely upon him for the next month it looks like too, so we'll see whether he improves with matches under his belt.

It's a shame there aren't any central midfielders coming through the academy, at least not any near Premiership class. It's been a bitter dissapointment in my opinion, especially when compared to other clubs like Manchester City, Aston Villa and Leeds. Granted they're all larger, city clubs, but we've invested a lot of money into the academy for little reward. As for the injuries, who does that leave us in midfield; Tugay, Mokoena, Bentley and Gallagher? Oh dear. -

If he was 21 we wouldn't have him. On a related note though, who the hell decided that Tugay and Zura were surplus to requirements at Ibrox? They need firing, pronto.
