  1. They surely can't keep this pressure up all game - they're all over us.
  2. That's always been my concern with Leonard - I think he's athletic enough to play as a lone striker (he's 5'11" I think?) and clearly has a very good footballing brain (his movement and link up play is very good for a 19/20 year old), but I do worry about his finishing. He should have scored today and realistically he should have taken one of his two chances against Swansea. I just don't see a natural finisher.
  3. Garrett played a wonderful ball in behind for the Sigurdsson chance - he needs playing time to progress. With regards to Pickering, Johnson (the Nottingham Forest player... who I think they sold to Spurs?) absolutely abused him last year in the cup. He can't handle pace at all.
  4. He's just too slow to play out wide. He might have a career as a #10, but he won't get that opportunity here.
  5. I think we'd be a better team with him starting as a #10 (he's a much better footballer than Szmodics) - but unfortunately (for him) our only consistent source of goals plays at #10.
  6. That's just the gulf in quality between the PL and the Championship - they attract the best footballers who are also the best athletes.
  7. Love this crowd - a trickle of messages as the game is going on, then an explosion of hate because the GK has possibly made a mistake leading to a goal. LOL, never change.
  8. I thought we fluffed quite a few golden chances against Swansea (Leonard twice, JRC / Brittain, Szmodics a few times) - there was nothing wrong with the formation.
  9. He's used the League Cup as an opportunity to blood youngsters and get minutes into the legs of more established players. I'd be shocked if we don't see Garrett, Gilsenan, Ennis, Travis, Markanday et Al tomorrow. We started the same 11 three times in a week and it showed on Saturday, they looked knackered. I'd rest as many of them as I could.
  10. I can't imagine many of them will play against Chelsea. They looked tired today.
  11. This is the problem - I can't really fault the players or the manager, he's playing with half a deck and they're doing their best. The tactics are good, the play is good - we're creating chances, but short of JDT lacing up his boots there's not much more he can do. Leonard showed why JDT didn't fancy him last year - movement is good (and he's a good, if not exceptional, athlete), but good god he should have buried both those chances. I don't think we were awful - I think Swansea took their one chance and were lucky not to concede 3 or 4. They were well drilled though - their manager quickly worked out that we have no pace, so he quickly switched to an incredibly high line and asked his team to pressure our CB / CM / FB triangles, which led to errors.
  12. 20 mins into the Radio Lancs programme and it's just been Burnley.
  13. Pretty much - as I've often said, you watch them warm up in-front of the Jack Walker Stand and just think "bloody hell, these lads are cloggers". Sadly that's the nature of the league - and it's why when a player like Norton-Cuffy stands out midweek you immediately think "who's he on loan from?"
  14. Moran isn't injured - per the manager, Ennis was brought on to defend the corner (Moran would have had to sit it out). I'd start with a v similar lineup to the last two games - you'd obviously just have to monitor fitness. We assume Hyam is out and JRC has come off on 70 mins the last two matches so I assume he'll struggle. I'd love to see Ennis start in place of Dolan, but JDT doesn't seem to change winning teams. Otherwise it's surely just S. Wharton in for Hyam and go again.
  15. I think ideally he's a #10 - but we already have 4 (or 5 if you count Gilsenan) of those in Szmodics, Moran, Dolan and Markanday. He was shut down by a promising PL talent last night - he was very isolated and had no outlet to play off. It happens, he's still an excellent Championship player.
  16. Besides complaining that our first goal was offside, they had a player injured on the pitch for our second goal and they should have had a penalty he was very gracious in defeat.
  17. I said that to my dad last night - there's clearly still a gaping hole at #9 - it's clear as day when you watch the team play. We'd be a force to be reckoned with if we had a consistent goal scorer there who was either big enough to hold the ball up or fast enough to run the channels (or heaven forbid both!).
  18. Not sure about the best player on the park by a country mile, but he was very good. I thought Tronstadt and Carter were sensational tonight. So was JRC until he tired.
