  1. Football is a brutal, hard nosed business. You don`t have a lengthy career as a manager unless you can cut the mustard. Many, many big names have gone under never to been seen again. No manager should be beyond scrutiny . I`m a huge fan of Mowbray, not just because I believe that he is a good coach but also because I think he brought much needed decency, integrity and stability to the club. I get the feeling that some are quick to forget that (or want to gloss over it for some strange reason). That being said, I saw Brereton v Norwich and thought that he was bereft of confidence and that the manager bares some responsibility for that. Mowbray has made an assessment of the defensive cover that the squad has/needs and has decided to allow individuals to go out on loan. He isn`t trying to sabotage the club, he doesn't want to sabotage his career, he has reached a considered conclusion. Of course this conclusion should be questioned. However, banging on about it before it has even been tested suggests an agenda (or some strange antipathy) .
  2. The current manager has had control and moulded the squad to his requirements since February of 2017 and therefore is more cogent of strengths, weakness and requirements than you. This "slate the manager no matter what" has been popular on here unfathomable reason. I can only presume that self flagellation is popular with some. I did say around 40 years. For most people 36 years is around 40 years but don't let that stop you from conflating Coyle with Mowbray.
  3. Yourself and Roversfan99 et al maybe didn't read my opening sentence (well, you must have and chose to ignore it) which, in a nutshell, acknowledged that this is a forum for debate and the sharing of opinion. I was just frustrated that some contributors don't question the manager's decisions but relegate them to being inferior to what their own would be. By Roversfan99's logic we are to conflate the careers, experience and integrity of messrs Kean, Coyle and Mowbray, so...………...
  4. You seem a bit angry. Settle down. I think it's fair to point out that there are some self appointed experts who give the impression that they know better than anyone else. Some of them have thousands of posts to their names so maybe that qualifies them? Fair enough for them to express that view, it's not for me to say whether or not that's permissible, I'll leave that to haughty 'World Cup' stars with almost 12,000 posts under their belt. Hopefully Mr World Cup thinks that it's ok for me to suggest, from my elevated equine vantage point, that the self appointed experts know the square route of diddly in comparison with seasoned football professionals.
  5. Obviously this a forum for debate and everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, some seem to genuinely believe that they know better than a man who has spent around 40 years in professional football, has largely compiled the squad and sees the players in training every day. Astonishing.
  6. Having been home from Australia for the Christmas/New Year period and seeing the Norwich, West Brom and Millwall games I'd agree with the general consensus that we are some way short of being considered as viable promotion contenders. That being the case, I don't get the angst about the likely lack of transfer activity at first team level during this window. What's the rush? Why get involved in the January trolley dash? Why not leave it for the desperate or realistically asperational to splurge crazy money in a febrile market? Hopefully the club's reestablished scouting network is hard at work identifying realistic, carefully researched targets and the club can work at bringing them in during the summer in preparation for an assault on the play offs next term. In short, chill out ffs.
  7. Is the jury in on Brereton then?
  8. Preston are the very definition of 'meh'.
  9. Some judge of a footballer is JAL.
  10. Yuck. Much like East Lancashire youth affecting the Mancunian accent.
  11. Lots of St Helens folk consider themselves Lancastrians and I think it's where the Friends of Real Lancashire (FORL) originated as well a the Lancashire Hotpots!
  12. Whilst having those banjo strumming ****s laud it over us in recent years has been truly horrible, a positive aspect has been the exposure of the myth of their support.
  13. I must be alone is desperately wishing we were in Burnley's place.
  14. Eddie Grant, a top bloke who had some outrageous slurs and songs to live with! His away days were the stuff of legend, as were Chris Wilkin's 'Coachline excursions' out of the Rose and Crown in the late 80s! Happy, drunken days!
  15. I quite liked Andy Todd. He was on a very short fuse but was a better footballer than Marker. The worst incident involving him in a Rovers shirt that I recall off the top of my head was when he kicked Dugarry up the arse. Having witnessed both incidents I can assure you that Marker`s assault on Ardiles was much, much worse.
  16. I was at Holme Park when Marker clattered Ardiles. It was hard to forgive when he pitched up at Ewood. Yes, he was tough but he was a dirty bastard and I didn't enjoy seeing him in a Rovers shirt.
  17. Preston fan's obsession and hatred for us is really puzzling to me. Like Bolton fans they seem intent on fostering some kind of intense rivalry with Rovers. As with Bolton, I couldn't care less about them, I have about as much interest in Reading or Brentford. I hate Burnley with the entire fibre of my being and have a strong dislike of manyoo as well as not caring much for some other clubs for a variety of reasons. Preston and Bolton barely register.
  18. My soul would not have been able to cope with the Inbreds enjoying European glory but that is a fair point. They, like others before them, have suffered poor post Europa League results. Hopefully their dreadful start of the season will continue in the wake of a moral sapping dumping out of the Europa League.
  19. Just heading over to Ebay for an Olympiacos top....
  20. We have Caddis, Whittingham, Hart and Gladwin along with potentially, Nuttall and Samuel who aren't realistically going to feature. We now also have a small army of central midfielders and all of these need paying. The wages going to the aforementioned players is cash going down the gurgler which pains me to see. I'm not trying to rain on the parade but I fret a bit about the attitude of the owners to paying the wage bill should the rest of the Rao empire have to tighten their belts in the event of a downturn. I wonder if it might be prudent to offer pay offs to the likes of Caddis, Whittingham, Hart and Gladwin whilst we have the money and render them free agents. The fact that disaffected players would be off the books might be an added bonus.
  21. I'm as excited as the next man about the surprise largesse of our poultry overloads but I'm a little concerned about our bloated squad and associated wage bill. We seem to be at the whim of the Rao business ventures and their fluctuating fortunes so what if the arse falls out of the Indian chicken stock market?. The league looks very dimly on clubs that don't pay wages or honour contracts.
  22. I suppose from Boro's perspective (if there's anything in the Fail's yarn) then they would reduce their wage bill a bit by letting Chapman go on loan. From our perspective we would be well on our way to becoming Blackburn's biggest employer.
  23. I'm quite looking forward to JAL's contribution to this thread. (I should also mention that I opined that Chris Brown was potentially decent for us)
  24. I was also totally exasperated by the signing of Brad Friedel. I thought Martin Dahlin would tear up the Premiership and ……..yes, I thought Steve Kean had the makings of a good coach.
  25. Wow. As damning indictments go that's as damning as it's going to get. Certainly deflated my guarded optimism. I was surprised to hear Tony Mowbray say that he didn't know Rodwell as he seems to value the character of his players so highly.
