  1. Van Hecke won't come back here, I'm pretty sure of that. Far too good for this level. He'll end up in one of the top flight European leagues if Brighton decide not to keep him. No point him playing championship football again, he's already proved he's better than that.
  2. It will happen but just not yet. PS. Why are people clogging up the transfer thread with their world XI?!
  3. On Nyambe, I can only think it was a personality clash with the other lads and that's why he's moved on. I remember Dacky giving an interview on his Rovers teammates for RoversTV and he mentioned how Nyambe was the strangest person he's ever met, or something along those lines.
  4. Good signing. Proven at this level, potential to get better, and good re-sell value. Job well done. Still lots of work to do in the transfer market but this is a very good start.
  5. This feels like a realistic signing and within our price range, so I'm hopeful on this one.
  6. Nyambe to Wigan. Wow, that's embarrassing for us and the player. What's he thinking.
  7. Another one bites the dust then with Davies going to Rangers. It doesn't feel like we're a very attractive prospect to players financially or ambition-wise at the moment. We've gotta hope these young players can make the step up (and even some of those are not committing their future to us!).
  8. Defensive reinforcements desperately needed. Full backs are not good enough and we're two central defenders light too (can we even count Ayala?). Barring injuries, we have a solid attack and a decent midfield. Not promotion material by any means, but competitive and enough to keep our heads above water. We're well short defensively though so that area needs prioritising.
  9. The new structure sounds far too convoluted for my liking. I presume it goes something like this: Manager says he wants players in X positions to DoF - DoF tells Head of Recruitment to recommend players in X positions - DoF goes to Waggot and says we want X players - Waggot goes to owners and says we want X players - tumbleweed from owners
  10. Davies would be a good start. An upgrade on Lenihan but a downgrade on Van Hecke. Still, I'd be happy with that signing overall. If if did come off, we'd still need: - 1 Centre Half - 2 full backs - 2 CMs - 1 striker That would be a minimum, we probably need more.
  11. Still plenty of time to do transfers but, wow, what a shocking window so far for us. Lost 3 key players and missed out on a key signing to Sheff Utd. Plus, Breo situation nowhere near being sorted.
  12. I'd say 6/7 new players is about right. We've lost 5 players who were first team regularly last year - the 2 brighton loanees and the 3 who have left on a bosman - who all need replacing. Then there's Diaz who will leave too. Did we ever replace Arma? That makes 7 new players needed. Dack, Markanday, JRC and Hedges (not sure the latter two are that good though!) barely featured so they're like new signings. The squad players who left, a la Johnson and Davenport, should be replaced by the academy players if they are up to it. Can they really offer any less than what players like Johnson, Davenport, Zeefuik, Giles etc offered last season?
  13. We'd be in a relegation dogfight for sure. Plus Diaz will leave before the window so we really are well short in every position. I'm not sure we've been in much worse shape at this stage before. But a few good signings and things will look a lot brighter.
  14. Lenihan has joined a club that's offering him more money and has a much better chance of promotion. Putting my allegiances to Rovers aside, it's a no brainer for him.
  15. There's a long way to go in the transfer window but as things stand we're in bad shape. Our squad is bottom 8 at the moment. Need some good signings and quickly.
  16. Very quiet on the transfer front but I'm sure things are bubbling up nicely behind the scenes. We usually only find out about players joining us around 48 hours before they actually join. And it's about the same time that I ever knew those players existed! I'm not sure any had predicted or heard of Khadra, Van Hecke, et al this time last year. I trust the manager to get it right in the transfer market.
  17. Isn't it refreshing to feel like we've got people in place who have a plan and know what they're doing. I have a lot more faith in our new DoF and manager than old school Mowbray and Waggot. I know the latter is still here but he won't be involved in football matters. It may not work out but this new era feels like the right approach.
  18. Welcome Jon! There seems to be a lot of excitement around the appointment from the majority of fans. That's always a good start. I suppose if you'd have told us our new manager would be someone who managed in the champions league last season, we would have taken that!
  19. I would have preferred a proven manager at this level but I'm fully behind JDT nonetheless. Let's see what we can do in the transfer market as that's going to be key.
  20. I'd go for Chris Hughton at this stage. Proven manager who knows how to win matches in this league. But that's far too sensible an appointment for the club. He did badly at Forest but he's far superior to any of the managers on our final shortlist. Very disappointed with the names now in the frame. The club have got it wrong yet again.
  21. I feel like it's gonna be a Henning Berg-esque appointment. Why can't we just go for a proven manager like Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest did rather than faffing about with left field choices. Those two clubs have shown what good managers who know what it takes to win matches in this league can do for a club.
  22. Whoever it ends up being, it sounds like it's gonna be a left field appointment and a big gamble. Why am I not surprised.
  23. Big blow to lose Lenihan but can't blame him for moving on. He's been a top pro for us and has moved on to earn more and have a better chance of getting promoted. Nothing wrong with that. Tough summer ahead for us. A complete re-build but perhaps things needed freshening up.
