  1. Needless to say, I've been very impressed by Mowbray so far. The sign of a good manager is one that can come in and quickly make you hard to beat. Hughes did that when he first came in, and so did Allardyce. You get nowhere if you constantly have to score 2 or 3 to win a game. I also am impressed by the work he's done on working on two different styles of play (he spoke about his recently in the LT). You always need a plan B, whereas we never had that under Coyle. Plan B won us the game yesterday. It's a really patched up squad that he's got well organised and hard to beat. We've always had good attacking players this season who can produce a bit of magic and score goals, it's the defensive side Coyle didn't have the nous to sort out. Real belief that we may stay up this season. There's still no long term future for this club until Venkys leave though.
  2. We only need there to be three worse teams than us. We've just played the top two and they've made up no ground on us at all. They still have those two to play so unlikely to get points from those games.
  3. Results were actually decent for us today. Expected Bolton to lose, but Rotherham and Charlton had winnable home games.
  4. I don't go to u21 games, that was based on my impression of the first 45 mins so I could be completely wrong about those players. Many of them I am seeing for the first time, as I suspect is the case for many other Rovers fans. It's not my job to decide which youth team players get promoted to the first team so I tend not to focus on that level too much!
  5. They've done well. Saints look far more talented on the ball, but we look strong. Nyambe does look very talented, Mahoney also looks very good. Raya looks very assured, and Rittenberg looks quite dangerous. Mansell is a real handful and puts himself about. Bauress has really impressed me, he's picked up all the loose balls in midfield. None of the others look like they'd ever have the potential to make the first team.
  6. There will always be surprise packages and Yeovil are an example of that. It can't be denied that FFP strengthens the big clubs and weakens the smaller clubs and that doesn't seem right and certainly doesn't constitute a level playing field. Small town clubs like Rovers will struggle to compete. That's exactly my point, Rovers couldn't even fill their ground even when they were a title winning team yet we still outspent and outperformed the big clubs. That couldn't happen with FFP. Football will become predictable and boring. I agree that you'll never get an even playing field but small town clubs won't be able to compete with big city clubs on a consistent basis. Using your example, Yeovil got promoted last season but they will get relegated soon, Sheff Utd will get promoted. Yeovil sink whereas Sheff Utd will grow under FFP. Again, your last point comes down to having responsible owners in football clubs and not FFP issues. People like Jack Walker were a breath of fresh air, people like Tan and Venkys are a disgrace.
  7. We need to avoid another pompey situation for sure but surely that comes with tightening up the fit and proper test and not the FFP. Rovers wouldn't have won the league without outside investment. Clubs like Fulham and Wigan would never have got to the premier league without rich owners. Clubs with massive parachute payments will have a huge advantageous over every other club. Club with big fan bases will also have a huge advantage. Why shouldn't a wealthy owner be allowed to pump their own money into a club if they want to live the dream. How are Rovers going to compete with the likes of Brighton and Leeds in the future with them getting around 25k supporters each home game and us getting around 15k with very cheap tickets. Also, how are we going to compete with clubs relegated from the premier league with them having 50m or whatever it is in parachute payments. FFP simply won't work and can't be allowed to come in as it will create a big divide and the dream of many smaller football clubs will die.
  8. Does it change our own team's situation. Yes, massively! If a significant number of other teams in the championship are in the same boat as us, which quite clearly they are, then FFP will not come to fruition. FFP is supposed to help clubs so if it does the opposite then it won't come in. That will be good news for Rovers and quite a lot of other teams who have spent too much.
  9. More internet rumours I see. Anyone heard when Rhodes will be back from his broken leg?
  10. Officially safe. Massive relief. Wolves are pretty much down. Bolton probably in play offs. Strange old season.
  11. Holloway is overrated. Said that when he was linked with Rovers. Did a great job at Blackbool but failed pretty much everywhere else. Took Leicester down. Don't like his kamikaze type football. You either win 4-0 or lose 4-0. Think we could win this one.
  12. Just watched the highlights. Looked like a soft pen but if you slide in to a tackle in the area then you are running a big risk. Silly play from Shittu. Hard to see whether Shittu got a touch on the ball or not but clever play from Hanley nonetheless.
  13. It's interesting that in hindsight, Millwall knocking us out of the FA cup actually helped save us from relegation. The weekend we were due to play Millwall in the leage was postponed because of us facing them in the FA Cup in the same weekend. We were in dreadful form at that stage and would have no doubt lost the league game at the Den just as we ultimately lost the FA Cup match. If we had beaten them then our game against Derby would have been postponed in order to play the Semi against Wigan. Instead, we played the game against Derby on the scheduled date, won the game, and set off on a run of winning 3 out of 4 which ironically included that re-scheduled lge game against Millwall. As much as I would have loved a day out at wembley, I would certainly take lge survival over it.
  14. WHAT A COMEBACK!!!!!!! Cannot believe it!!! Didn't think we'd have the bottle to come back from a goal down. Best 45 mins of the season that second half. Massive result. If we hadn't of won that we'd have been in big trouble with Dunn, Kazim and Best looking like they are out for the rest of the season. Pretty much safe now. Didn't think I'd say that this season. What a legend Bowyer is. How has he turned this around in such a short space of time?!
  15. Olsson LM and Morris LB? Where is Dunn playing? CM, RM or behind Rhodes? I imagine Kaz would be up front with Rhodes but could be on the right wing if dunn is playing with rhodes up top. Decent team though. Anyone got Millwalls line up?
  16. That's good news. Fancy another dour draw in this one - similar to the turgid game in the FA Cup QF at the Den. I'd take that now though.
  17. What a miracle worker Bowyer is. Could not in a million years see us winning those two games back to back with two clean sheets to match. Take a bow GB. One more win from 4 games should see us over the line. Quality performance tonight and deserved to win. You know you've played well when Goodwillie comes on and has a stormer!
  18. Come on Rovers get a second. Been fairly comfortable so far but expect a much tougher game in the second. Got a feeling we'll need a second to win this. Vaughan is dangerous and Beckford will be dangerous when he comes off bench. Thought 1-1 before the match and still think 1-1 at full time. Expect disappointment with Rovers.
  19. Pleased with that line up, looks strong. Think Marcus Olsson and King will cause them problems with their pace.
  20. hmm that's what i fear. Picked up a `knock` wouldnt surprise me. Has to play though. I think he could be the difference between losing and not losing. Wouldnt like Morris and Rekik both in the back 4.
  21. Givet being back is massive news. A defence with Givet in is vastly superior than our defence without Givet in. Even more crucial considering Hanley is out. Givet and Dann is a strong pairing - Dann and Lowe/Rekik is not so strong and I'd be concerned about it.
  22. Absolutely perfect signing if it comes off. The missing piece of the jigsaw in midfield. He breaks up the play, can put his foot in and very disciplined in his role protecting the back four. Very impressed.
