I disagree with your interpretation but as English is the manager’s second language I guess it’s not completely implausible. The bit I’ve emboldened gives an example of why I’ve said I blame the club. It is their ineptitude and mismanagement of this (and many other) situations which have led us to this point.

But ‘decided on his own’ suggests he didn’t give Ismael a choice. To be clear, I blame the club for the whole situation - I’m merely adding my interpretation to the discussion.

I read Ismael saying ‘Callum decided not to play today on his own’ as Brittain refused to play. Ismael then went onto to say ‘…I said we can let this game pass…’ I took this as him meaning he’s let him off this once but won’t do so again
