Venkys have today filed another Civil Miscellaneous Application with the court. They’ve previously used these to try and get interim relief whilst their main case is still pending. For example, they used one to seek permission to send the £11 million in October ‘23 and they used another in Sept ‘24 to try and have the guarantee condition removed. The last one (May this year) was heard roughly a month after the papers were lodged - I’ll keep my eyes peeled…

An English Qualified Player is someone who is eligible for England senior team when he first permanently registers with the club in question.

In my experience, most finalised legal documents end up with ‘holes’ in them. For these to remain unrectified year after year is what I take issue with.

Do Sky publish individual viewing figures for all these extra matches? If not, why not?

I believe they are written by the FA (as the recognised Governing Body) but within guidelines set by (and subject to the approval of) The Home Office. The ESC players part in particular were, I think, a result of changes to immigration rules post Brexit.

My interpretation of the rules is that Miyoshi became an ESC player on 1st June (when the 2025/26 season is deemed to have began) and not when he made an appearance in Bundesliga 2. Other interpretations are available and the rules could be far clearer in this regard. I don’t know why they haven’t made League Quality points the same as some of the others in that if you qualify under two categories you get the points of the higher one.

I think, if he remains first choice, we should be able to convert Toth to a non ESC in January. The point I was trying to make was that playing fewer and fewer English players will eventually result in us only being able to have 2 ESC players at a time.

I think we’re guaranteed to stay above the 35% ‘this time’ irrespective of how few English minutes we have this season. However a low number this season and next would see us struggling so, as you alluded to, keeping these minutes as high as possible is crucial* * if we’re going to continue the ‘cheap foreigners’ model.

Sorry to come back to such a (relatively) old post. Re the bit in bold - the reference period for calculating the additional ESC places re percentage of EQP minutes is the previous three seasons (I only just picked up on this myself). Therefore, unless the rules change, we’d need to stay above 35% for 23-24,24-25 and this season combined to keep our entitlement to 4 places next year.

Our transfer window will be open then so doesn’t sound wrong to me. The only other option would have been January ‘26 but presumably they want him for the start of their next season (February) too.

An international loan must end during a transfer window of the parent club so October can’t possibly be right.
