Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach
tomphil replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The stupidest thing about it all is how these people accusing fans of perceived over reaction can't seem to see the hypocrisy of their own attacks. Football fans will always react like football fans yet a few have it down that it only happens at Rovers. What's the difference then between the stuff already on the Sun'land forums about Mowbray ? He's only been there 5 mins and the are saying all the same stuff that was said on here over the last few years. Then there in Norwich fans refusing to get behind their side then getting on their backs throughout a game. That's seemingly all ok i suppose. -
The mindset of the fanbase is key, back then we thought we were in decent shape and thought we had ambition. What has filtered through since then is we are very much a water treading setup with the only real ambition to develop players. People often need motivation alongside price initiatives but beyond the hardcore that has all but disappeared. That's why price initiatives need doing in games like the Preston one, ten or fifteen quid for that and despite the Dingle debacle, early tv and apathy we'd still be looking at 21/22k+. Might have helped the team as well making it an occasion instead of a hollow atmosphere except for away fans big day out. On the back of that you'd get more turning out for this but critical thinking doesn't apply at Ewood it's just hit that takings target however. Collect your wages and breathe out, job done for another year. th

He's a development coach so the chopping and changing will continue regardless of form. Agree with the rest though, two fingers to TM. -
If tickets were 20 quid there'd be 3k away fans not 5/6 thousand rocking up and there'd be about 4 thousand home fans. So you're looking at a seven thousandish crowd where'as now it should be around the 12k mark. Don't anyone tell me discounted tickets haven't worked those who do are missing the point. You're nearly drawing in double what you would at league match prices or a slight discount.

We won't be spending money on midfielders that's a cold hard fact, if promotion was the aim then we might do but it isn't. The reason we are loaning in the likes of Morton is to keep the pathway open for our own. Thinking being one or two of ours aren't ready and he is supposedly a bit more advanced. What we really really need in there is a Bradley Johnson type whose legs aren't yet gone, might find one on a free or loan but he'd cost average championship wages. That'll also be an issue so i expect the midfield to stay the same but with maybe more involvement from Buckley and Wharton etc as the season goes on. -
And it does have an adverse effect on season ticket sales for a club like us magnified more by rising prices.

That's the danger of moving too many up at once and having a policy that your academy is first port of call every time there is a vacancy. -

I thought he might be a candidate being from up there but will TM find nepotism as easy up there ? -

They'l turn quicker than a carousel up there. I still think he'll do ok for them if he has a decent window but i don't want him taking any of our squad to be honest. Best thing everyone at Rovers can do now is cock a deaf 'un in his direction he's already had the odd dig whilst up there. Lets see how his huge tanker, huge club with ambition suits me better talk ends up. -

Dolan was superb yesterday and so close to the hatrick he deserved but that game showed what he's all about and why he's so important to this squad. He will be in and out because some games don't suit him but any match where there'll be space up top and pressing / counter attacking and he's the man you need. Mowbrays best signings came with little or no money and he was one of them and old Tone used him quite well. I'd like to see JDT perhaps utilise him a bit more than just coming on 65 mins to try and close out games, which he is also very good at by the way. -

Cult like behaviour that the likes of twitter etc provide a platform for, it's the same with most subjects. I was surprised at the number of posts i saw on there and faceache outright crying over him and slagging JDT. I mean come on we hardly shone in derby games with him at the helm did we. It's like they've been waiting for opportunity to let it all out and the dingle debacle and Preston no show provided the perfect ammo. I was as angry as anyone but i don't care what happens this season - here or Sunderland - not once have i or will i pine for that self righteous smoggie. -

But it shows you don't have to be a great side to win games anywhere in this league you just have to apply yourself correctly. We haven't been doing that recently or indeed in many away games this season but it really isn't that difficult. Cut out the experiments and do the basics right first then build on that. -

Wide forwards as well (although not many 6'4" ones) alongside false 9s etc all the rage but when you think about it it's all about balls in front of them and so called through the middle. Maybe just a push through the pyramid to create better players on the ball and more football on the deck but it does make you wonder. -

I really think this is some kind of EFL directive creeping into lower level or something now because lots of teams are doing it. We at times most definitely are the blueprint of why Not to do it though but it's happening all over the place. I did wonder if it might be down to trying to get less heading into the pro game, long balls obviously encourage defensive headers. The winger is dead means less crosses per game and less attacking headers etc. Food for thought. -

First cast 😜 If you ventured into social media land you'd understand what i'm getting at there is an element waiting for him to fail. I enjoyed the win thank you and Gallaghers part in it but the only thing made up is your fantasy of him under Mowbray. Don't snatch at the first bait so quick in future. This is the virtual version of me chucking you back in the pond. -

Much more like the Rovers of a few months ago that got us into a good position in the first place. Credit all round tonight and Tomasson made all the right calls. Bit fortunate with the deflections but you make your own luck through graft and having a go and that's what we did. Hope we continue with this and i know it'll change at times but hopefully we aren't with another revert to type gaffer who keeps going back to his preferred method just to try and make it stick. Norwich well i don't know whats happened to them but they look shite but for once a Rovers team capitalised on that rather than rolling over and giving them an unexpected boost. Keep the faith. (Shudda wudda kudda kept Mowbray gang back under your beds tonight) -

First bit i have issue with because i'm sick of seeing it dragged up every time there is a bad run. Not just you it's like a default setting on here for some but there are no parallels to that situation 30 years ago it's chalk and cheese. Second bit i agree with the only bit i'll add is we've seen it coming over the past few months in the narrow victories and rancid abject away efforts. He did enough early doors for me not to write him off but he's had a reality check recently and needs to shake off his English championship naivety quickly. Otherwise a drama will turn into a crisis but yes the fans need to back him and the team. Tomorrow for me is all about the performance and the real time to judge is over the festive fixtures. I think we'll all have a better idea in 2 or 3 games time what he's all about. -
How can they decrease when they are the ones who've played the biggest part so far ? People are knocking them before they've even been picked yet before the west Ham game it was all PLAY THE KIDS and squaddies ! So given how shit the first team has been recently it's unfair to expect wholesale changes from the previous starting line up. Those calling for the more senior players will be the first to slag JDT and say should have stuck with the kids if we lose. He's on a no winner with this one but i'd rather see lads with a point to prove go down fighting than others strolling about and shrugging their shoulders and losing.

He was first pick under Mowbray because he was desperate or under instruction to justify that investment and wages. Like i said iv'e always liked him and think used properly he can do a job but that job odd game aside is not as a right winger/wide forward. That as we all very well know is Mowbray either thought he should be used or was shoehorning him in. He had some absolute stinkers and more often than not games he grafted but contributed nothing whatsoever going forwards. You really don't need to spend that money just to get someone who does that in the championship. -

I like him but you know well that at the time 5 million on him was wasted alongside the 15k pwk or whatever. Don't try and rewrite history with this fella we all know how he has performed and how your hero preferred to try and use him. That money alongside the 7 mill for BBD ( which is ok now with hindsight) could and should have been used to build a better side, starting with defence. Armstrong we'll give him that one but that was a modest 1.75 rising to 3 and that is where Mowbray should have stayed in his lane. When he was given genuine big money he failed miserably to put it to its best use at the time. The 'investment' in BBD doesn't wash either seeing as he'll leave for nothing. Not spending last window might be down to the owners but BBD, Rothwell, Lenihen, Nyambe ALL leaving for nowt is a legacy of Mowbray and his close pals at BRFC. The legacy of modern day BRFC though is of course all Venkys to own. -

I wouldn't call 5 million for Gallagher exceptional at all.
