Waggott's interview with media
tomphil replied to chaddyrovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Yes they'd love nothing more than a Prem chocked with big city clubs with 30k= sell outs every game. And a championship full of clubs getting 20k with the potential of 30+ should they go up. The rest can slide away to oblivion, it's all about the media and sponsorship paymasters and agents. -

It's a scheme hatched by him here there is absolutely no doubt but it must be receiving some support from within the club. That's both disappointing and worrying. -
Brockhall STC - planning permission application ?

Because this slug and his pals are now trying to sell another evolution plan to the ownership. It'll be in his new sales pitch and he can give it the old we need three or four years to see it through. They won't see through it. -

Mowbray runs the football ops Waggot does as he's told that much is obvious. Aside from that with nobody else telling him what to do other than the finance people he doesn't appear to have a clue. A down grader whop only knows one thing and that is to put the squeeze on everything and push it as far as he can regardless of who it upsets. -

Oh yes there's no chance of it happening it makes for too much sense and ticks too many boxes. Option B suits these lazy barstewards and the police better. 30 odd quid a ticket, hardly any walk ons and probably less of them lot than normal. verdict 15/16k with a third of them away fans, easy day for all at the club and the OB. -

Price the Preston game sensibly and aim to get 15k home fans on. Plus their rabble on their annual get out of South Ribble day pass. Aim for 21k+ and get a few back in for a local derby. Then hopefully the team shows up and it helps re-engage a few more, these are the games for this approach. Just make it £20 in all areas outside of JW center/upper and get the BBE and Riverside full up again. -

He isn't a leader he isn't ambitious and he has no real clout he is just CEO in name and wages, a box ticker. That's why virtually every answer starts with an excuse or spin he's only getting wheeled out once every 6 months now to gloss things over. There is a negative almost can't be arsed air to it all it's no wonder the whole club is as blaise as it seems, everything comes from the top. All he's done there is passed the buck to his heads of depts, where does he think he's working Canary Wharf ? -

The min he gets to India they are coming back with new 3 or 4 year manager and CEO deals mark my words. That will be item one on the agenda. And anybody who thinks Mr and Mrs D don't still make the big final financial decisions think again. We are about to embark on another 4 season mid table journey that ends in Tony and Steves pensions and sales opf the young players we are nurturing now. That's the future and there isn't a top 6 ambition in sight.- 239 replies

Neils Preston finished above Mowbrays Rovers every season he was there. Handing out a few beatings in the process. The guy also got Norwich promoted to the Prem well within the last decade not when adam was a lad. He must have something about him and is easily in the same bracket as Mowbray, better in fact going off those stats. At end the day the Bowyers, Lamberts, Neils and Mowbrays are all in that middle rung of gaffers. Sometimes the dice just needs rolling so he'd be far from the worst choice to land on.

Grew up in Wheelton and there, Brinscall, Withnell, Abbey Village, Heapey etc always traditional Rovers strongholds. Although not very big places so we aren't talking thousands. Like everywhere else though the demographic changes young locals move away, older fans are lost or can't go anymore. People from Manchester, Bolton way move in and other kids just grow up hanging off the armchair teams. Rovers weren't up too much when i was a kid but most lads from those villages followed them. Then the Jack era began and everyone and their dog was suddenly Rovers mad. -
The logic in regards to them is they'll fall away the min he walks out the door but the miserable ginger twohat doesn't really belong anywhere else. I'd probably much rather see them finally fade away with him at the helm boring and kicking their way out the Prem. I know they are a division above but god it must be boring being a Burnley fan, people don't even buy into the small club punching above its weight line with them. Do they still take ten thousand to every away game and still need to terrace Pendle Hill ?

They've been giving away tickets in there to local kids groups etc this season so probably another one on Sat. -
This season i just think attending fans recognize this side is very young and needs support at all times whether good or bad. That's the way it should be but if things went wrong for any length of time he'd be let know about it. Again that's the way it should be so any attempt at throwing kids under the bus won't last long. Neither would continually hiding behind the youthfulness of the side as he's responsible for it. A good manager with a squad like this would take all that on his shoulders to keep it off theirs. Time will tell but so far they are collectively getting results so nobody is going to be getting on his case at the games and nor should they really. I find it annoying he doesn't have either the bottle or faith in some players he's signed to actually try and win games sometimes. However he's probably just thinking of escaping with a point and keeping everybody off his case, whereas fans are thinking of getting up the league. We should be used to that by now and it used to be the same under Bowyer. Although i think he was more prone to having a right good go in the last ten mins than Mowbray ever has been.

And seeing as we've not had to sell a player either for years, have thrown ample good money thrown on wages. Then now had the budget slashed it might finally dawn on some there'll never be a promotion challenge under this set up, ever.

Waggot will address it for them don't worry. By hiking prices again next season to cover the next drop. Then they'll do their bit by giving him and Mowbray extensions whilst only sanctioning loans and ensuring we stay in lower mid table. -
I think Brereton is one of those who'll always look like that but will have a knack of bagging a few still. It's rare in his time here he's had a good game but he's scored a few good goals although i'll never ever understand what prompted them to shell out that much for him when they did. It's going to take a few good seasons to finally justify it so hopefully he gets a bit physically stronger.

We have a settled back line and the starting line up isn't changing that much. I think that shows in results and performances. We are stodgy rather than pretty this season and it's getting draws rather than 0-1s. Managers hand as been forced on this somewhat and he isn't trying to keep happy a host of senior pros. Perhaps that suits him a bit more, perhaps he's more comfortable bossing young lads rather than fragile egos. Whatever it is it has benefited us so far this season considering the squad is very lightweight. Just like finally having a proper keeper though has made a big difference so has finally having a proper central defender. Seriously how long is it since we had a proper one ? Still the same things happen though that raise concerns but that is how Mowbray works he will never change. If he managed Man City he'd do the same things it's his dna so you do fear, like last season that at some point the rotating on confusing stuff will commence. Now if he'd just lay off all that for one season ! Let the team itself actually evolve instead of being more concerned about individuals it might turn out worthwhile.

Ah Saint and Greavsie ! before SKY's big club propaganda eventually turned everything so serious and boring. Just reading up on him as a player and never realized how good he was that's some impressive records he has. Shame its never been profiled like it should he never seems to get mentioned amongst the greats of the English game much. Now if he'd worn a Liverpool or Man U shirt that would've been altogether different. RIP

That just sums the guy up, go to great lengths to piss people off and price a lot out then suddenly decide it's an issue. What an enormous pillock they'll try something now that won't work then write it off again. Stable door after another few thousand have bolted ! -

I stopped going to the big local games under Allardyce, the tipping point was zero expectation to win coupled with 35/40 quid tickets. That was so long ago as well and the fact most of these games were on live tv had a dramatic negative effect on away support. In typical Rovers fashion though it didn't really add up because home turnouts were the best they'd been for years around then. Don't get me wrong i'd love to be in the Prem and face that issue again but give me a day out at Barnsley anytime over a corporate rip off fixture. Have to say though with the cap on away tickets in the Prem these days we wouldn't have problems shifting plenty. -

It was a great turn out at Barnsley but lets consider a few things instead of getting carried away and trying to use it as a marker of faith in the manager. First away game within easy distance on a Saturday afternoon in how long ? Average prices buying before the day. Good chance of a point or three and great opportunity for a pint or ten. Early season, proper awayday and lets be honest a club like us should be taking a respectable number over there on a September Saturday afternoon. Sadly there was probably a good number in that following who haven't set foot in Ewood this season. Kind of says a lot. -
This 100% Also we only seem to have a real go once we go behind that's another marker of the ToMo dour philosophy. Yesterday it was clear as day 60 mins ah we'll take the point the subs pretty much confirmed it. Why oh why though not just reshuffle and have a bit more of a go we've seen it work a couple of times this season. If we'd conceded he'd have done it almost straight away. We aren't talking going gung ho just getting people in the correct positions to have a go. Yet again his priority seems just to get some players some mins instead whilst remaining pragmatic and maybe hoping to nick something. Game yesterday was there for the taking for either side and they nearly took it a few times. We offered nothing really. A points a point can't be too choosy but the fact a lot feel deflated again tells it's own story. These are the things like the surrender to Luton that sort the underachievers from the punching above their weights over a season. It's an absolute cast iron recurring theme under his reign that a little bit more ambition and drive at certain times we'd have a lot more to show for it. The whole thing is just set up to plod though and you only have to look out at Ewood on matchday to see the town knows this.
