  1. My main concern is he's rubbish at this level and if we are to progress the likes of him and Samuel must be moved on when they are fit. Even if we can't afford anyone else they are taking up squad/bench space of hungry young players who might replace them. They contribute next to nothing when fit anyway and the whole idea of moving the club forwards is to replace poor or unused players with ones who might bring something. Or just freshen it up if nothing else. Mowbray signings though for a bit of money so he'll probably bend over backwards for them to earn new deals. If so i'll be re-evaluating my opinions on honest T.
  2. He leaves those kind of comments until after he's put the wind up everyone and given the opposition a boost. 'We should be beating Barnsley at home ' ... 3 days after the game !
  3. End of the year then assessed ...... ?
  4. When you keep adding quality in the right areas and you base it on a reliable keeper and decent defense you can buck the trend even if there isn't massive funds available. When you have a scattergun approach with god knows how many people allowed to bring players in for the sake of it. Or you've virtually no funds or are a selling club then it's unlikey to work year on year.
  5. I've asked this before but does signing young homegrown players under a certain age provide some sort a way of navigating around FFP ? Are the fees counted the same towards losses in the eyes of FFP if a young player is considered a safe asset who might increase in value rather than decrease even if a big fee is paid ? Does seem odd we are very reluctant to actually buy any experienced players in the 23 - 28 age bracket for a good fee, maybe we aren't allowed. Although pishing tens of thousands per week down the drain on well over 30s on short term contracts makes no financial sense whatsoever either. Odd rules but an even odder club !
  6. Barnsley for me recently has been something of a watershed game when i think about it. What pops in the mind is us winning there in the chaotic 5 manager season with Bowyer in charge and thinking we'll be ok now the players are up for it under this guy. Then the Coyle game and it dawning we really are doomed but the fans won't let up on this useless twerp now. Then the home game early on in Mowbrays reign where again alarm bells went because we were awful and i have to say it the tactics were crap that day. Remember thinking its confirmed my fears he isn't the man but still got behind him because he's a decent guy and he didn't chose to have to pick Wes Brown in defence who was stinking. Now tomorrow, i wonder what i'll remember that for ? 5 - 0 would be nice !
  7. Great point about the third year you see it so many times but i don't think it's one of footballs great unsolved mysteries as a lot of managers bring it on themselves. Either that or there is a certain amount of winging it before hand and sometimes that's enough or they just get found out after filling clubs with their mates their players and their system. They don't have the nous to change and the players they've brought in along the way are the wrong ones. In our case i think there is also a touch of second season syndrome, we over achieved early on last season then got sussed out and took a nosedive before balancing out. This season sides know what we are about and the so called strengthening hasn't paid dividends yet, the defence is the same standard and the approach to games is often tepid. What we are seeing this season is just classic bog standard team bog standard manager, we are beatable but if you don't get stuck in we'll beat you. There's a big pack like that they make up the majority of the division although a lot don't have a Dack, a Graham, a 5 million pound striker and a 7 million pound sub. Or a Holtby ! That's why you have to get the best out of what you have week in week out or come up with something a bit different in order to get ahead of that pack. Until then we'll remain bog standard.
  8. Which is exactly why the money they can spend is spent wisely.
  9. They've allowed maintaining of the Academy to Cat 1 other than that i can't think of one tiny bit of it that hasn't been dumbed down to litterally half or what it was when they rocked up. There was a train thought after they'd been here a while that their idea was to break it all down so they could build it up again how they thought it should be. Well...
  10. They got lucky with Mowbray it was just another desperate throw of the dice, another opportunity to employ a good candidate which they ducked for about the 5th time. Another recently failed manager off the scrapheap who was probably grateful enough to start off cheap, another one possibly recruited through the usual channels of so called friendly advisers. After an uninspiring but respectable start it finally finished off what the previous cheapo, agent presented, scrapheap challenger had started. However the following season the same dice finally landed on a six. Now we are almost back at square one again and they are god knows how many tens of millions lighter...again. So learn from mistakes ? Pull the other one.
  11. That's a pity it will get them a boost for sure and yet again a ready made excuse to come out with after the game if we don't win. It would have been interesting to see how Mowbray talked up a managerless Barnsley before and after.
  12. Big Sam would have us batting at the top end absolutely no doubt his methods are hard to watch but proven. I think he'd also kiss the Venky badge if there was enough money in it. It would have to be a lot though but just imagine Allardyce with the transfer money Mowbray has recently spewed !
  13. I wonder if his dad gave him 7 million when he was 21 and he 'invested' it via Tony ... ?
  14. He should be at his managerial peak but he seems very weary at times. There'd be another job out there for him though somewhere probably at Bradford or somewhere like that, highish profile lge 1 club type manager.
  15. He's been injured so after a season 'bedding' him in with 10 min cameos out of position do we really expect the next 6/7 months to be any different to that ? No. There is a monumental amount of arse covering going on with this one imo.
  16. It's fair enough doing an article highlighting the 1000 days and the turn around from where we were under clownpants. However you could be forgiven for thinking we are on the verge of something big right now instead of looking like being on the verge of a relegation scrap. Problems many rightly feel this manager has been bringing on himself for 12 months. End of the day in football you are judged on last months results and your latest signings not last year, 2 years ago, ten years ago.
  17. Simon Garner always used to score against Barnsley, where is he ? If he can't turn up to be shoved right wing then how about we wheel out this era's reliable goalscorer instead, a certain D Graham esq and stop pissing about.
  18. The big names they were flinging around it didn't take a rocket scientist to know they'd want large wages. That's just a cop out from Waggot i reckon when the truth is probably opted for the cheapest option and had no intention of investing in that position just like defence. Given the agents who provided Walton i'd not be surprised to see us buy him for decent money with the idea of trying to increase him in value for a sell on. You can't do that if you sign an older bigger name on big wages. Gambling around with a key position yet again.
  19. Well if he isn't meeting them they'll be asking why.
  20. We'll look into it..
  21. Why does Waggot keep setting targets that aren't realistic at the moment ? Does he understand the club so little still ? What made him think that this seasons ST's would increase significantly on last seasons ? Why when we are having a poor first third to the season does he think we'd suddenly shift 1500 half ST's when it's normally 500 or less when it's crap. Continually failing to meet targets you've set yourself should only lead to one thing.
  22. The only one that sticks out is Hudds where they perhaps played beyond themselves for a half. In a whole game ? No idea i don't think there is one, this season at least. Even under Bowyer you could point to some cup games where we were above ourselves for 90+ mins.
  23. It needs an natural upgrade, Mowbray was an upgrade on Coyle and imo Lambert might have proved an upgrade on Bowyer had he stayed and been given similar backing. Regardless of his style of play etc that takes time to bed in something that TM had had plenty of now but still doesn't know which way to go. We missed a trick after GB not actually going for better than Lambert when they should have but on paper Lambert was an upgrade so a similar line needs to be followed now. Preston - yes i know - upgraded from Grayson who was similar to GB & TM and got Neil who's more bullish and bold and it's paying dividends with a modest squad. I think they'll fall away again but that's not his fault unless he wastes money they might get to strengthen. The way it's done here.... Trick is to do the opposite of knobend and get a half decent squad achieving what it should rather than an average one over achieving. There's in no excuse to be floundering round the bottom end when you can spend the money we have and pay the wages we do to a lot. Non at all !
  24. He'll only use the standard 20 million per season to keep us going get out of jail card again. Totally sidelining the fact they've created that themselves but i think in the Ewood hierachys world and Vs themselves as long as they do that everything else is ok and should be forgiven.
  25. The plates containing the roasts and veg etc in the Mowbray household Sunday lunch will be laid out different every week you can bet on that if big T is the chef.
